Maserati is making dramatic moves in 2020 to boost sales of its vehicles after an abysmal sales year last year that saw Maserati sell only 11,000 models for the entire year. In an effort to boost sales, the Italian automaker is slashing prices for the 2020 models of the Ghibli, Levante, and Quattroporte. Just as important, Maserati is also offering the new Edizione Ribelle special edition units involving the three aforementioned models. Only 225 units of the Edition Ribelle will be built, spread out across the three models. Of that total, 100 units each of the Levante and Ghibli will receive the Edition Ribelle treatment while only 25 units of the Quattroporte will get the same. The limited-production Edizione Ribelle models will hit dealerships this March. Prices for these models are a lot more expensive than their standard edition counterparts, so expect to pay anywhere from $93,285 to $120,985 if you want to get your hands on a Maserati Edizione Ribelle.

Turning Over a New Leaf After a Disastrous 2019

To say that Maserati had a rough 2019 would be an understatement. The Italian automaker barely sold 11,000 total units for the entire year. It’s a staggering fall from grace for a company that, only two years ago, initially set a target of selling 75,000 units annually. But that’s not happening anymore, or at least not if Maserati doesn’t do anything to help generate more interest in its lineup.

Revamping that lineup isn’t going to help in the short term, so instead of taking that route, Maserati just threw a rock in its “break-in-case-of-emergency” box and has taken steps very few automakers take unless they’re desperate to jumpstart sales of they’re models. Believe it or not, Maserati has slashed prices for three of its models, namely the Ghibli, the Levante, and the Quattroporte.

Breaking it down, the new 2020 base prices for all three Maserati models are as follows:

-* Ghibli - $70,985

-* Levante - $74,485

-* Quattroporte - $101,485

If you’re not familiar with the old prices for these three models, consider that Maserati slashed almost $6,000 from the Ghibli’s price tag and almost $4,000 from the Levante’s price. Neither of these two price cuts is as significant as the price for the Quattroporte, which was slashed by a staggering $8,500.

The Edizione Ribelle looks promising

Maserati’s decision to lower the price of three of its models isn’t the only big news to come out of the Italian automaker. Fans of the Ghibli, Levante, and Quattroporte should be pleased to know that the same three models will soon be offered in a special edition version called the Edizione Ribelle.

All three Maserati Edizione Ribelle models will wear a Nero Ribelle paint finish. It’s basically a fancy name for black paint, though there might be a unique treatment to that paint that the press and glam photos don’t reveal. What we can tell you is that the black paintwork is matched by black chrome trim that’s spread throughout the exterior. The only other exterior upgrade is the set of 20-inch wheels and the red brake calipers peeking from behind the alloys.

At the very least, it’s a consistent look with the overall theme of the special edition model. Splashes of carbon-fiber trim can be found on certain surfaces and for the audiophiles among you, these Maseratis also come with a Harmon Kardon audio system.

That’s the extent of exclusivity that you’ll find in the Maserati Edizione Ribelle models. The exclusive touches aren’t that many relative to past Maserati special edition models that we’ve seen in the past, but at least there’s an effort on the Italian automaker’s part to give us something special to kick off the new year.

These special edition models don’t come cheap

Say what you will about Maserati’s decision to slash off the prices of the 2020 Levante, Ghibli, and Quattroporte models. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for the Edizione Ribelle models. Only 225 total units will be given the special edition treatment. Of that total, the Levante and Ghibli Edizione Ribelle models will be limited to 100 units each while the Quattroporte Edizione Ribelle will only have a production volume of 25 units.

Given the nature of special edition goodness that these models have been subjected to, pricing details are what you’d expect. The Maserati Edizione Ribelle models are more expensive than their standard-issue counterparts. A lot more.

The Ghibli Edizione Ribelle, for example, will set you back $93,285. That’s more than $20,000 more than the standard — and “discounted” — 2020 Ghibli. Meanwhile, Levante Edizione Ribelle comes with a price of $98,485, or $24,000 more expensive than the standard Levante. Then there’s the Maserati Quattroporte Edizione Ribelle. It’ll beat up your pockets to the tune of $120,985, or almost $20,000 more than the standard Quattroporte.

Should you be interested in any of these special edition Maserati Edizione Ribelle models, be advised that they will become available beginning in March 2020.
