American company, Maxximus->ke3877, has big plans to build a car that just may be a little too ambitious, even for the immense standards of the auto industry. We all remember these guys for building one of the fastest supercars in the world, the Maxximus G-Force. More recently, these guys were in the middle of developing the LNG 2000, a green supercar that's being pegged as the eventual successor to the G-Force.

But there's another supercar Maxximus is looking into building in the future, one that will carry a liquid natural gas powertrain. What we might call as ambitious, Maxximus is calling the 'Prodigy.'

The supercar is being touted as a world-class machine that will blow the doors off of the competition. If the expected numbers of the car turn out to be true, then you won't hear any arguments from us. The team from Maxximus has laid the plans on what they expect from the Prodigy, including a mixture of Rolls-Royce->ke74-type luxury and Bugatti->ke16-like performance numbers.

What sets the Prodigy apart from just about everybody else is that, according to Maxximus, it will be the first ever supercar to run on a liquid natural gas engine. This alternative fuel option has never been used on cars producing the kind of power Maxximus is pegging for the Prodigy. The powertrain-of-choice supporting this will be a custom-built LNG 7-liter Chevrolet->ke199 V8 engine said to produce 2000 HP.

"The engine is going to be like nothing else on the market," says Adam Layman, Maxximus' Engine Development Manager.

Exterior and Interior

The Prodigy will be built on a carbon fiber and Chromalloy chassis, but the body will be 100% carbon fiber. It will feature carbon ceramic brakes, ceramic wheel bearings, a suspension system for adjustable height, and an active front wing controlled by an on-board computer.

Inside, Maxximus has decked out the Prodigy with creature comforts like climate control and a GPS system with an integrated touch screen. Then they go a step ahead by offering Driver Recognition Technology to arm and disarm the car with Bluetooth and a MacIntosh audi system with 12 integrated speakers and an mp3 output. For aesthetic purposes, the Prodigy also has a full custom interior with carbon fiber or burled wood inlays.

Engine

The 7.0 L Chevy V8 powering the Maxximus Prodigy was privy to a couple of turbochargers, Digital Valve Technology that reduces the friction inside the engine, CNC billet block and heads, LNG direct injection, and four valves/cylinder. It was then mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. According to designer Marlon Kirby, the team at Maxximus is looking into producing 2,000 horsepower for the Prodigy, a sick figure that's twice as powerful as that of the 1,000-horsepower Veyron->ke1112, with a goal of reaching the 300 mph top speed mark. This power will get the car from 0 to 62 mph in 2.1 seconds, and 0 to 100 mph and back to 0 in 8.9 seconds.

Pricing

The Maxximus Prodigy is expected to cost somewhere around $1 million.

We don't know how far the Prodigy will come along, but if it does make it past the testing and development phase, there's no telling what kind of world records it will be capable of destroying.
