Let’s be honest: the current-gen Mazda MX-5 ‘Miata’ is becoming pretty long in the tooth. The fourth-gen MX-5 (codenamed ND) was shown six years ago and entered the market in 2015. So it’s only natural that Mazda is doing its best to keep it fresh and appealing. This time, the Japanese carmaker focused on the U.K. market, with the so-called GT Sport Tech treatment. Here’s what it’s all about.

A mid-life update and then some
The updated 2020 MX-5 can be ordered in the U.K. as of March 2020, but due to the corona news flooding every outlet, you might have missed the news.
As you probably know, the mill was introduced in 2018 and it features lighter pistons, upgraded camshafts, new exhaust valves, and optimized fuel injectors, as well as a notable power bump over the 158-horsepower version launched in 2015, when the MX-5 made its debut. 0-62 mph now takes 6.5 seconds. Other mechanical tweaks consist of a limited-slip diff, Bilstein dampers, and a front strut brace.
What’s new for the GT Sport Tech, exactly?
Visual stuff, mostly:

-* Burgundy Nappa leather seats
-* Polymetal Grey Metallic paint (also available on the other trims)
-* Adaptive LED lights
-* Reversing camera
At the same time, Mazda doubled down on safety features (they also apply to lesser models) starting with the Sport time and above. These include lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, and brake support at city speeds.
Prices for the U.K. version of the 2020 Mazda Miata start at £23,800, but that will only get you the entry-level SE-L. GT Sport Tech, on the other hand, starts at £29,905.
