2019 McLaren 720S GT3
Launched in 2014, the McLaren Super Series included a batch of spectacular sports cars. Alongside the base 650S model, the British firm also launched the higher performance 675LT and the race-spec 650S GT3. Light, fast, and packed with the latest technology, the Super Series became McLaren’s most successful car. However, the British carmaker decided to replace it after only three years on the market. Its successor is called the 720S and boasts improvements in just about any department. It’s been six months since the 720S was unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show and McLaren announced that a race-spec GT3 version is also underway.
The new 720S GT3 will replace the 650S GT3, a vehicle that scored titles in all major motorsport series, including the Asian Le Mans Series, Australian GT championship, the Bathurst 12 Hour, Blancpain Endurance Cup and Pirelli World Challenge. But it won’t happen right away. Much like the 570S GT4, the 720S GT3 will have a trial season in 2018 and will completely replace the 650S in 2019, when it will be launched for customer teams.
In addition to the new race car, McLaren also announced plans to introduce a new racing program and a one-make GT series for customers. It’s also planning to appoint a network of motorsport retailers which will sell road and track products alongside each other. But more about all of this below.
GA Police Officer Hits 140 mph Chasing McLaren 720S in High-Speed Chase
A Georgia Police Officer got the chance to push her police-spec Dodge Charger to the limit this past weekend when a man in a McLaren 720S casually passed her doing north of 100 mph on a public highway. It didn’t take long for the officer to hit the blues and take chase. Nobody was injured in the chase that lasted just a couple of minutes, but the driver – a Dwayne Sherwood Pope – was charged with speeding, DUI less safe, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and – get this – driving with an expired tag.
All told, the dash cam video lasts nearly a half hour, but for the most part, the action is over with within a few minutes. The Dodge Charger which, in police-spec, has a top speed rating of 155 mph when powered by the 5.7-liter, HEMI, V-8. There’s no word as to what engine this officer put her foot into, but it did keep up with that McLaren 720S quite well. We’re still not sure why he stopped, considering the 720 S is rated up to 212 mph, it could have quite easily gotten away. Something tells us that the man was telling the truth about pulling over when he noticed the lights – after all if he did intend to run, that cop car really didn’t stand a chance.
Fortunately, for him, and anyone else on the road, that wasn’t his intention otherwise things could have been a lot worse than a DUI charge, had he really pushed it to the limit. After all, he did have “three drinks.” Check out the video below and let us know what you think.
2018 McLaren 720S Zenith Black By MSO
Introduced earlier this year at the Geneva International Motor Show, the McLaren 720S is the second addition to the Woking brand’s Super Series line, offering high-end exotic performance and styling in a more accessible package. Indeed, a daily driver supercar makes for a great fit in a place like Dubai, and as such, McLaren just dropped the above-featured one-off as the piece de resistance for this year’s Dubai International Motor Show. Built by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), the brand’s in-house tuners and creative customization team, it’s dubbed the Zenith Black, and its got a careful selection of styling upgrades both inside and out that are sure to get noticed, even when the local police force consists of hoverbikes and Bugatti Veyrons.
All told, this is an utterly unique creation, as indicated by the “1 of 1” placard inside the cabin. MSO spent an extra 120 hours on top of the usual production process to bring it to life, and overall, we think it looks great. The theme pays homage to the idea of “achievement” in a distinctive fashion – read on to learn exactly what that means.

McLaren Just Built a Three-Seat 720S to Preview its Successor to the P1
While the McLaren P1 was a fantastic supercar in just about any department, many die-hard fans felt that it missed an essential feature: the three-seat layout of the iconic F1. McLaren apparently took note of this complaint and confirmed that its next hypercar will have three seats and the driver will sit in the middle, just like in a Formula One car. Described as a hyper GT and often referred to as the BP23 or the P15, McLaren’s new flagship is still a mystery as far as design and drivetrain go. But the Brits just unveiled an early version of its cockpit in a modified version of the 720S.
Earlier today McLaren posted a photo on Facebook showing a 720S supercar wrapped in swirly, black and white camouflage. Nothing out of the ordinary if you ignore the wrap, but things become a bit unusual when you look at the windscreen and notice the driver and the steering wheel placed in the middle of the cockpit. Another image, this time from the inside, shows the mule being driven on a race track, once again with the driver sitting in the rather unusual position for a road-legal vehicle. Although McLaren didn’t have much to say about it, it’s pretty obvious that we’re being given a sneak peek of the upcoming supercar’s interior.

The McLaren 720S Goes Flamboyantly Purple as a One-Off at Pebble Beach
What happens when you cram thousands of wealthy people, heaps of amazing cars, and enough events to cover a whole week together? You get the greatest week of the year: the Monterey Car Week. You never know what you’re going to see. With auctions from names like Russo & Steele, Mecum, Gooding & Co., and RM Sotheby’s, there’s a massive guest list that includes some of the greatest cars ever built. But, over at Pebble Beach, things take a completely different turn, with this year bringing cars like the BMW Concept Z4 and Infiniti Prototype 9 into the mix with all of the classic cars. Meanwhile, McLaren has to make its own splash, and it’s doing so this year with a special one-off version of the 720S painted in one of the loudest and intriguing shades of purple that you’ll probably ever see on something with wheels.
The car in question was built by McLaren Special Operations to the exact specifications requested by Michael Fux. If the name doesn’t sound familiar, he’s owned a number of collector cars that include a some special McLaren one-offs like a 12C in McLaren Orange, a 12C Spider in yet another shade of purple, and even a McLaren P1 with an exclusive color of green that has only be used on that specific vehicle. Unlike some McLaren one-offs, this beauty features a bespoke paint color called “Fux Fuchsia” that was developed specifically for Fux by Rolls-Royce and then redeveloped for its application on the 720S by McLaren. So, with that in mind, don’t expect to get your hands on it, as our man Fux owns the exclusive rights to this specific hue – if that’s not exclusive, I don’t know what is. The Wait To Order A McLAren 720S Just Got A Lot Longer
Like every supercar that arrives amidst hype and expectation, the demand for the McLaren 720S was always going to be high. Still, the reception surrounding the new crown jewel of McLaren’s Super Series is reaching heights that very few McLaren before it have been able to do it. It’s now being reported that all examples of the 720S through 2018 are sold out. Gone. Better luck next year.
This revelation may be surprising on the surface, but it really isn’t, even when you take into account the fact that the 720S only made its debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. This is the nature of the supercar industry now though. Even the most expensive of machines sell out faster than ice cream on a hot August day, and as it turns, that’s exactly the case with the McLaren 720S. All in all, over 1,500 orders of the McLaren 720S have been placed with many of these buyers ordering two models of the supercar, one to use and another to send to McLaren Special Operations for some personalization work. Displays of wealth notwithstanding, buyers who missed out on taking delivery for the 720S on or before 2018 will still get a chance to buy one, either through McLaren or the secondary market. Those who opt for the former will have to wait a lot longer than they intended, but at least they could still get their hands on a 720S at a much friendlier price compared to going to the streets where they can get to own one sooner, albeit at a price that isn’t as forgiving to the wallet as what McLaren’s asking for it.

McLaren Wants You To Help Finish Its 1:1 Scale Lego 720S At The Goodwood Festival Of Speed
The Goodwood Festival of Speed attracts automakers from all corners of the world, each showing up with something unique on the table. This year, McLaren has made good use of its preparations for the event by partnering up with Lego to create a 1:1 scale model of the McLaren 720S. That’s right – 1:1. The Lego version of the 720 has the same size as the real thing.
As cool as that sounds, it’s nothing when you feast your eyes on the actual build. Thing is though, the life-sized, Lego version of the 720S is far from being a finished project. Sure, it took six people roughly 2,000 hours to put together most of the 267,300 plastic bricks together, but a little under 13,000 bricks have yet to be put in their proper places for the whole Lego 720S to fully come together. This is where attendees at the Goodwood Festival of Speed come in. Those who show up at the weekend-long automotive spectacle in the U.K. will have the opportunity to add the final pieces to the plastic supercar before it’s scheduled completion this Sunday, right at the end of the Festival of Speed. If you’re not up to it, you can turn your attention towards a nice alternative in the newly released Lego version of the new McLaren supercar that’s been added to Lego’s Speed Champions line. It only comes with 161 pieces and is available for under $20, a price that’s a far cry from the £208,600 ($267,300) price tag McLaren’s asking for the actual 720S.

You Can Build your Dream McLaren 720S Now
The brand-new McLaren 720S, which was just unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, has now received its very own configurator on the company’s website. Yup, it’s time to create your dream supercar!
The configuration begins by selecting the trim. The 720S is available in three versions, with the Luxury and Performance trims receiving additional equipment. As soon as you pick the model, the configurator takes you to the exterior color section. And it really becomes interesting, as the 720S is available in no fewer than 34 colors.
Only five are standard, no-cost paints, including white, blue, silver, McLaren Orange, and Storm Grey. There are seven more hues in the "Special" category, including Aurora Blue, Memphis Red, and Quartz, and eight in the "Elite" class. This one includes a few spectacular choices like Volcaco Yellow, Solis, Azores, and Bourbon. Finally, there’s the "MSO Defined" category with 14 choices, including Papaya Spark, Burton Blue, Polaris BlueLantana Purple, Fistral Blue, and Mauvine Blue.
Next up, you have to pick a set of wheels. Choices include five-twin-spoke sport cast, five-twin-spoke lightweight, and ten-spoke super-lightweight. The base rims are available in either silver or stealth finishes, while the lightweights come in either platinum, titanium liquid metal, or satin diamond cut. The ten-spoke wheels are offered in similar finishes. For calipers, you can pick between eight colors with silver McLaren logo. Pirelli P Zero is the standard choice for tires, but track-ready Corsa rubber is optional.
Other exterior options include a host of carbon-fiber upgrades. You can have several body components in this lightweight material, including the side mirrors, headlamps housings, splitter, front bonnet, engine hood, and diffuser. The same goes for the interior, where you can add carbon-fiber seats and components all around. The only drawback is that the trim is either black or black and Scoria Grey, but you can add a dash of color by selecting orange seat belts. However, MSO will be happy to "paint" the cockpit in any color you want for an extra fee.
When it comes to entertainment, you can pick between the standard four-speaker audio system or the optional, 12-speaker, Bowers & Wilkins unit. The McLaren Telemetry is also available with laptime function and three cameras. There’s a lot to add to the car when it comes to safety too. Options include 360-degree park assist, front & rear parking sensors, rear-view camera, a volumetric alarm upgrade, and a vehicle tracking system. Finally, there’s all sorts of practical things like a car cover, floor mats, fire extinguisher, an ashtray, and a lithium-ion battery charger.
Unfortunately, there’s no pricing for each of these items, so you’ll have to contact a dealer to get a sticker. But I guess it doesn’t matter much when you’re like me, and can’t afford one. Anyway, my dream 720S is finished in Lantana Purple, sports ten-spoke wheels in satin diamond cut and yellow brake calipers, and every carbon-fiber option but the front bonnet. 2018 McLaren 720S Velocity
McLaren’s double dose of debuts came as a surprise when the highly anticipated arrival of the 720S supercar was shortly followed by the introduction of the 720S Velocity, a bespoke creation by McLaren Special Operations meant to showcase the enormous personalization opportunities that are on the horizon for the British automaker’s next great wonder machine.
The arrival of the 720S marked the next step in the evolution of McLaren’s Super Series, a family of supercars that sprouted from the seeds of automotive engineering with the debut of the MP4-12C back in 2011. Since then, the Super Series family has grown to include the 650S, the 675LT, and the 650S GT3. The 720S serves as the replacement for the 650S after the latter’s three-year run in the market and just as appealing as that car was with MSO’s involvement with the 720S proving to be just as enthralling under the carefully thought of eye of the personalization division.
The 720S Velocity is unlikely to be the only 720S model that MSO will be working on in its life span. More versions will come, either through future owners of the new supercar or through McLaren itself. But the 720S Velocity accomplishes something that shouldn’t go understated. It’s setting the bar incredibly high for future 720S models that will pass through MSO. It’s combination of exclusive exterior colors and finely tailored interiors all make for a car that brings out a unique personality to the 720S, which of course is what MSO is all about in the first place.
It won’t come cheap by any means, but that comes with the territory of having MSO work on a car that by itself will cost just under $300,000 when it becomes available in the U.S. Yes, the price of personalization doesn’t come cheap. But if the car ends up looking like the 720S Velocity, money becomes a small price to pay for the rewards that come after.

2018 McLaren 720S
After three years on the market, the first-generation McLaren Super Series was replaced by a redesigned model at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Dubbed 720S, the core member of the second-generation Super Series has been thoroughly redesigned inside and out and gained a revised, larger V-8 engine.
Introduced in 2014 as a replacement for the 12C, the company’s first mass-produced sports car, the McLaren Super Series has had a successful three of years on the market as of 2017. It spawned several road-going and race-spec versions, including the 650S, 675LT, and 650S GT3, forming the brand’s most comprehensive family of vehicles yet. But, despite its success and tremendous performance, McLaren decided to give the Super Series a makeover and launch the brand-new 720S in 2017.
Codenamed P14, the successor to the 650S is the first new model in McLaren’s new business plan, which includes a £1-billion investment for 15 new products by 2022. Built around a new carbon-fiber tub called the Monocage II, the second-gen Super Series ditched the company’s ubiquitous 3.8-liter V-8 for a new, 4.0-liter unit. Design-wise, The 720S is a significant departure from the 650S and incorporates radical active aerodynamics, as well as loads of new technology in the cockpit. McLaren 720S Velocity Is The First MSO Special-Edition Super Series
It’s been only 24 hours since McLaren introduced the second-generation Super Series at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, and the British firm has already unveiled the first special-edition model customized by MSO (McLaren Special Operations).
That didn’t take long, huh?
Called the 720S Velocity, this special model stands out immediately thanks to its bespoke two-tone paint. The front and upper body panels are finished in Nerello Red, a brand-new color, while the sides and the rear of the car are wrapped in Volcano Red. The combination creates a fade out effect from front to rear, a first for an MSO-created McLaren. The unique paint job is complemented by Metallic Bronze alloy wheels and a range of clear carbon-fiber elements, including the rear deck vent, the rear aero bridge, and the sill covers.
Once inside, we are greeted by Carbon Black Alcantara trim, Harissa Red leather inserts, and matching highlights on the dashboard, steering wheel, door panel, and sports seats. The headlines and the B-pillars are covered in Carbon Black Alcantara with Harissa Red contrast stitching.
The drivetrain is identical to the standard model, meaning that motivation comes from a twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V-8. Derived from the award-winning 3.8-liter V-8 from the previous Super Series, the 4.0-liter unit is 41-percent new and generates 710 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. Charging from 0 to 62 mph takes "less than three seconds," while the 124-mph benchmark comes in "less than eight" seconds, according to McLaren. Top speed is now rated at a mind-boggling 212 mph.
The Velocity costs around £335,000 (about $406,960) depending on options, which represents a £126,400 (around $153,580) premium over the standard 720S. McLaren says it’s just one of five MSO themes prepared for the new Super Series, with the other four being named GT, Pacific, Track, and Stealth.

McLaren 720S Wows Geneva with Aggressive Design and P1-like Performance
Introduced in 2014, but with its roots tracing back to 2011, the Super Series is McLaren’s old surviving sports car. Based around the 12C between 2011 and 2014, it was redesigned into the 650S, which also spawned several versions, including the bonkers 675LT. It’s been three years since the first-gen Super Series saw the light of day, and McLaren has just launched the second-generation model at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. The new sports car goes by the name 720S and was redesigned from the ground up, as well as fitted with a significantly revised drivetrain.
Styling-wise, the 720S is a pretty radical departure from the 650S. The nose is more aggressive and the headlamps are rather unconventional, being sunk deep into the fascia and black-colored recesses. The main lamps and the LED daytime running lights are separate units now. Although different if taken inch by inch, the car’s profile is actually very similar to the 650S, having an almost identical beltline. What makes it different is the absence of radiator intakes. This function is now carried out by the "double-skin" aerodynamic design of the dihedral doors, which channel air to the high-temperature radiators that cool the engine. Around back, the 720S is a totally different beast. The extremely slim taillights give the car a frowning appearance, while the diffuser seems borrowed from a race car. The exhaust is different too, with the pipes mounted high in the fascia.
The interior is also new, featuring a combination of fine leathers, machined aluminum, and carbon-fiber. By far the most revolutionary item is the new McLaren Driver Interface, which includes a folding instrument cluster and an infotainment screen with optimized controls.
Motivation comes from a twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V-8. Derived from the award-winning 3.8-liter V-8 that powers just about any McLaren since 2011, the 4.0-liter unit is 41-percent new and cranks out 710 horsepower and 568 pound-feet of torque. That’s 70 horsepower more than the 650S and a 44-horsepower increase compared to the 675LT. Charging from 0 to 62 mph takes "less than three seconds," while the 124-mph benchmark comes in "less than eight" seconds. While these figures aren’t very revealing, expect the 720S to be at least a tenth-second quicker than the 650S. Top speed is now rated at 212 mph.
But the 720S isn’t just fast. The tech behind the revised engine also enables it to consume 10.7 liters per km combined. I might sound like a lot compared to a compact, but it’s actually a solid figure for a track-ready supercar.
The 720S also features a new architecture based around a new carbon-fiber tub and upper structure, called the McLaren Monocage II. Extremely strong and rigid, it also lightweight and makes the 720S a very dynamic vehicle. A range of aluminium alloys are also used extensively in the chassis, as well as for some body panels.
The supercar is already available for purchase in three different trim levels with pricing set at £208,600 before options in the U.K., but U.S. pricing information is not yet available.
