The McLaren 675LT MSO Gulf Racing Edition is a one-off creation that was designed to pay homage to the F1 GTR cars of the 1990s; with a recreation of the Gulf Racing colors that were worn by the 1997 McLaren F1 GTR Longtail race car. There aren’t any serious performance upgrades, but MSO gave this 675LT the full interior and exterior treatment.

What Makes the McLaren 675LT MSO Gulf Racing Edition Special?

MSO was apparently challenged by a customer to “make a road-going homage to the McLaren F1 GTRs of the 1990s. In doing so, MSO looked back at the 1997 F1 GTR Longtail and made a stunning recreation of the Gulf Racing colors that adorned the legendary car. As you can see it features the black base at bottom to go with the blue hue up top and bright red accents that are airbrushed along the side and creates the typical central racing stripe. In the rear, the same red hue runs along the edge of the rear spoiler.

And, don’t forget about those Dayglo Orange, 20-inch wheels. That same color is also used to accent the door sill badges and display the customer’s initials. To round off the exterior, MSO applied louvered front wings, an upgraded roof scoop, and a carbon fiber airbrake, all of which are painted to match the special paint scheme on the body. It’s very attractive, and according to McLaren, the paintwork on the outside amounted to 80-percent of the time spent to complete this project or about 800 hours.

As far as the interior goes, the homage continues. It starts with a pair of MSO Bespoke racing seats which are, naturally, wrapped in Alcantara. They do, however, feature orange and blue contrast stitching. What’s more impressive is the owners embroidered initials on the headrest that are done up in a matching blue. Orange seatbelts are thrown into the mix for good measure, and the bezels on the Active Dynamics Panel take on the Gulf Blue finish as well. Gulf Orange can be found on the vent surrounds and around the stop/start button. It’s certainly attractive, and it’s one of the best “homage” projects we’ve seen in a while.

There is a bit of irony here, though, as the 675LT was actually named after the same car this specific model pays homage to. See, the LT in the name actually stands for “longtail.” There, now do you see the connection between putting this specific livery on this car? It’s all related. Be that as it may, MSO left the entire driveline alone, so power delivery is capped at an evil 666 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. It’s still nothing to bat an eye at, though, considering this beauty can make it to 62 mph in around 2.9 seconds and does top out at 205 mph. Plus, you don’t take a car like this on top speed runs anyway, this thing is to be shown off on occasion and enjoyed. Good work, MSO!
