The McLaren Denver car dealership has commissioned McLaren Special Operation to build not one, not two, not three, but six special edition McLaren 600LT Spiders to celebrate America’s most famous hill climb event, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Each of the six special edition 600LT Spiders is dressed in an exclusive color to go with a smattering of interior embellishments. Special edition wheels are also part of the package, as is a commemorative plaque signifying each model’s inclusion in the “Pikes Peak Collection of 6.” The price tag for each of the six McLaren 600LT Spider Pikes Peak models that make up the collection have yet to be announced, but expect each one to cost significantly more than the 600LT Spider’s retail price of $256,000. Considering that we’re dealing with six ‘one-of-one’ versions here, a price closer to $300,000 for each of these models is realistic.

What makes the McLaren 600LT Spider Pikes Peak Collection special?

Before we dive into what makes this special edition McLaren 600LT Spider special, I should point out that the unveiling of this whole collection should’ve happened a few weeks ago during the actual staging of the 2019 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. It seems like a wasted opportunity to get a lot more media mileage with a launch earlier this month as opposed to doing it now, a few weeks removed from the event. Maybe there are justifiable reasons for the “delayed” unveiling, but still, the McLaren Denver dealership would’ve probably gotten a lot more exposure and publicity if it launched its six special editions 600LT Spiders at the event. Not that it matters from a quality standpoint, though, because each of the six special edition 600LT Spiders is a definite looker.

Earlier this year, MSO even presented one of its most impressive creations: a unique build of the same 600LT Spider. That model was dressed in a special Dove Grey finish with matching Napier Green details on the splitters, sills, doors, and diffuser. The Napier Green garnish, in particular, was created using a new technique that involves applying paint onto a light and flexible film to add a level of bespoke-ness to its breadth and character. The tricked-out 600LT Spider also received interior embellishments in the form of extra carbon fiber pieces and vanity markers on the steering wheel. The results, as you might expect, were incredible. That first MSO interpretation of the McLaren 600LT Spider offered us a glimpse of the many aesthetic possibilities for the 600LT. I suppose that, in some ways, it also set the table on what we can expect from future MSO-designed McLaren 600LT Spiders.

All of that brings us to the McLaren 600LT Spider Pikes Peak Collection. Each of the six 600LT Spider’s come with a unique exterior color: Black Gold, White Gold, Nerello Red, Volcano Red, Aurora Blue, and Midas Grey. Of the six exclusive colors, both red finishes — Volcano Red and Nerello Red — are my two favorites. The 600LT Spider’s body wears the two colors seamlessly and, if I do say so myself, both look downright sexy in red.

The rest of the exclusive upgrades in the exterior are shared by the six special edition 600LT Spiders, particularly MSO’s generous use of carbon fiber in a few key parts of the supercar’s body. The contrails, for example, now come in carbon fiber. The front fender louvers also benefit from the carbon fiber treatment while the wheel bolts that help put the delicious Satin Speedline Gold wheels in place are made from titanium. All of these additions, mind you, are part of the MSO Club Sport Pack. All six versions of the McLaren 600LT Spider Pikes Peak Collection come with the aforementioned Sport Pack.

The interior touches are less provocative, but there are still enough exclusive additions to justify the special edition labels, not to mention the commemorative plaques that each of the six 600LT Spiders has. But before that, let’s highlight the other features of the supercar’s loaded up interior. More importantly, MSO added Satin Gold contrast stitching into the equation and a Pikes Peak logo embroiled in the same Satin Gold color in the headrests. Minor details like the Satin Gold band on the center steering wheel to denote the 12 o’clock’ wheel position and the extended paddle shifters, also in Satin Black, are all part of the McLaren 600LT Spider Pikes Peak Collection. And since this collection is only made up of six highly-individual special edition models, each of the six models will receive a plaque to denote their specific production number relative to the total number of models that are included in the collection. It’d be interesting to see which of these six special editions 600LT Spiders will carry the “1 of 6” and “6 of 6” production numbers. Those two, are likely to be the most expensive ones in the second-hand car scene on account of the first- and last-production tie-ins.

There are on engine upgrades in store for any of the six 600LT Spider Pikes Peak models. That shouldn’t come as a surprise, though, because MSO isn’t particularly vested in performing engine upgrades on any of McLaren’s models, including pretty much all of its past works. Instead, each of the six 600LT Spider Pikes Peak models will still be powered by a 3.8-liter, open-top, twin-turbocharged V-8 engine that produces 592 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque. All that power travels through a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission, which, in turn, sends the power to the two rear wheels, enabling the 600LT Spider Pikes Peak Edition to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.8 seconds. Likewise, the car’s top speed is capped at 201 mph.

I have my two favorites, but I'm not begrudging anyone who identifies another one as his or her favorite. They're all sensational colors, and they look incredible on the McLaren 600LT Spider.

That said, McLaren Denver has not revealed the price tags for each of the six models. The dealership's owner, Mike Ward, did say that "six very lucky customers will be the proud owners of these amazing McLaren 600LT Spiders, and we can’t wait to see them on the road and on the track in Colorado.”

How much each of these models will cost should be revealed soon, though if you're interested in any one of them, be prepared to spend more than the 600LT Spider's $256,000 retail price. Somewhere in the vicinity of $300,000 is a suitable price expectation for each of these models. It's a steep price, sure, but not if we're talking about the opportunity to own what could end up being one of the rarest MSO-built McLaren 600LT Spiders in the world.
