McLaren Just Built a Three-Seat 720S to Preview its Successor to the P1
While the McLaren P1 was a fantastic supercar in just about any department, many die-hard fans felt that it missed an essential feature: the three-seat layout of the iconic F1. McLaren apparently took note of this complaint and confirmed that its next hypercar will have three seats and the driver will sit in the middle, just like in a Formula One car. Described as a hyper GT and often referred to as the BP23 or the P15, McLaren’s new flagship is still a mystery as far as design and drivetrain go. But the Brits just unveiled an early version of its cockpit in a modified version of the 720S.
Earlier today McLaren posted a photo on Facebook showing a 720S supercar wrapped in swirly, black and white camouflage. Nothing out of the ordinary if you ignore the wrap, but things become a bit unusual when you look at the windscreen and notice the driver and the steering wheel placed in the middle of the cockpit. Another image, this time from the inside, shows the mule being driven on a race track, once again with the driver sitting in the rather unusual position for a road-legal vehicle. Although McLaren didn’t have much to say about it, it’s pretty obvious that we’re being given a sneak peek of the upcoming supercar’s interior.

2018 McLaren 570GT in XP Green By MSO
In the annals of McLaren’s long and rich history in performance cars and motorsport racing, there is perhaps no greater car McLaren has ever produced than the F1. To this day, it’s regarded alongside the Ferrari F40 as the godfathers of modern supercars, a distinction that becomes more and more revered with each passing day. The F1’s history is littered with world records, race wins, and enough achievements to fill up a massive trophy case. But the supercar is also remembered for giving birth to the F1 GT Longtail, one of the most distinctive road cars McLaren has ever built. 20 years after the Longtail first appeared in 1997, McLaren is paying homage to the iconic F1 XP GT Longtail with the introduction of the super limited edition McLaren 570GT XP Green Edition.
McLaren’s MSO division did the brunt of the work in creating this ultra-exclusive, six-unit masterpiece. Beyond the goal of reliving the unmistakable aesthetics of the F1 XP GT Longtail, the exercise of creating this limited edition 570GT boils down to a showcase of MSO’s capabilities as a personalization division. This is the same unit that has given us some pretty memorable iterations in recent memory. Past works like the 650S Coupe Concept, 720S Velocity, and the unforgettable X1 Concept were all created by MSO. The 570GT XP Green Edition isn’t the first of its kind to get the MSO treatment either. But for what it’s worth, it’s the first one to have been inspired by arguably the most famous car McLaren has ever produced. That, in itself, counts for something meaningful and it’s probably the reason why MSO decided to build the 570GT XP Green Edition in such short supply.

The Wait To Order A McLAren 720S Just Got A Lot Longer
Like every supercar that arrives amidst hype and expectation, the demand for the McLaren 720S was always going to be high. Still, the reception surrounding the new crown jewel of McLaren’s Super Series is reaching heights that very few McLaren before it have been able to do it. It’s now being reported that all examples of the 720S through 2018 are sold out. Gone. Better luck next year.
This revelation may be surprising on the surface, but it really isn’t, even when you take into account the fact that the 720S only made its debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. This is the nature of the supercar industry now though. Even the most expensive of machines sell out faster than ice cream on a hot August day, and as it turns, that’s exactly the case with the McLaren 720S. All in all, over 1,500 orders of the McLaren 720S have been placed with many of these buyers ordering two models of the supercar, one to use and another to send to McLaren Special Operations for some personalization work. Displays of wealth notwithstanding, buyers who missed out on taking delivery for the 720S on or before 2018 will still get a chance to buy one, either through McLaren or the secondary market. Those who opt for the former will have to wait a lot longer than they intended, but at least they could still get their hands on a 720S at a much friendlier price compared to going to the streets where they can get to own one sooner, albeit at a price that isn’t as forgiving to the wallet as what McLaren’s asking for it.

2017 McLaren 570GT by Novitec
The McLaren 570GT is about as unique as any McLaren that’s out on the market today. It’s classified under the company’s Sports Series, but really, it has the credentials of a supercar. It was prepared to be a performance daily driver in the vein of the Porsche 911, and yet it can flex its power in a heartbeat. The 570GT’s varied characteristics is a big part of its appeal, and for all it’s worth, it’s also a big reason why aftermarket tuners have taken a fancy to it. One of these tuners is Novitec and it’s got a dandy new program for the 570GT that helps improve its output numbers to reach levels that essentially puts it in the league of McLaren’s higher-echelon Super Series.
If you have ever followed Novitec’s work, you might remember the tuner has already worked on the McLaren 570S, introducing its program for that car back in December 2016. The blueprint of both kits is pretty similar in a such a way that the scope of Novitec’s modifications falls along the same sections. There are aerodynamic kits, a new set of wheels, suspension upgrades, and of course, engine tweaks that put the 570GT’s output in the vicinity of 650 horsepower, right smack where the 650S resides. It’s not the most encompassing program you’ll ever see, but for a car like the 570GT that can already shine on its own without any assistance, Novitec’s new program is simply all about making a good thing even better.

2018 McLaren 570S Spider
Introduced in 2015, the McLaren 570S brought the British firm into a new era. Not only it completed a three-car lineup, a first for McLaren, but it also became the company’s most affordable vehicle yet. Available in two versions with different outputs, the 570S also spawned a GT model with additional cargo space, softer suspension and improved insulation for touring enthusiasts. Come 2017, and the 570S had its roof chopped off (not literally, of course) to become the 570S Spider.
Unlike its siblings, the 570S Spider didn’t benefit from a glamorous unveiling at an auto show, but the drop-top supercar is just as important as any other McLaren. With the 570S giving the British firm access to a new niche, one that includes the iconic Porsche 911, the Spider now gives McLaren a weapon against the 911 Cabriolet and the Audi R8 Spyder. We will see the sports car in the metal at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, but until then let’s have a closer look at the design and the spec sheet.

2017 McLaren 570GT by Wheelsandmore
While the McLaren 570GT is still considered a part of McLaren’s Sports Series line, its status as a premium version of the 570S effectively makes it an entry-level Super Series model. Regardless of where it stands in the pecking order of McLaren’s lineup, the 570 – be it with the ’S’ suffix or the ‘GT’ – is still attracting the aftermarket world. Novitec Rosso has a program for the 570S and now, it’s Wheelsandmore’s turn to present an aftermarket kit for the 570GT that promises power levels amounting to 650 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.
Since this is Wheelsandmore we’re talking about, the whole program largely revolves around the supercar’s engine and wheels. Very little work was put into the exterior of the 570GT and even less so on the interior. The kit does have suspension upgrades, too, but considering what the 570GT is already capable of in that department, the improvements brought about by the height-adjustable springs are largely to help keep the front spoiler and underbody from getting damaged. Overall, the German tuner’s program for the McLaren 570 is a typically efficient and well-developed kit that spells massive improvements for the British supercar.
