The 2021 McLaren Elva is a brand-new supercar that the British firm added to its Ultimate Series lineup, alongside the Senna and the Speedtail. A two-seat open-cockpit design, it’s inspired by a series of race cars built by Bruce McLaren in the 1960s under the McLaren-Elva name. It’s McLaren’s first open-cockpit road car and its lightest road-going vehicle yet. A track-ready roadster with an aerodynamic design, the 2021 Elva features the most powerful iteration of McLaren’s twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V-8 engine. 2020 McLaren 600LT Spider Pikes Peak Collection

A few weeks late to the party, but this collection should still fetch a lot of money

The McLaren Denver car dealership has commissioned McLaren Special Operation to build not one, not two, not three, but six special edition McLaren 600LT Spiders to celebrate America’s most famous hill climb event, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Each of the six special edition 600LT Spiders is dressed in an exclusive color to go with a smattering of interior embellishments. Special edition wheels are also part of the package, as is a commemorative plaque signifying each model’s inclusion in the “Pikes Peak Collection of 6.” The price tag for each of the six McLaren 600LT Spider Pikes Peak models that make up the collection have yet to be announced, but expect each one to cost significantly more than the 600LT Spider’s retail price of $256,000. Considering that we’re dealing with six ‘one-of-one’ versions here, a price closer to $300,000 for each of these models is realistic.

The cool and fast 720S goes topless

Introduced in December 2018, right between the auto shows in Los Angeles and Detroit, the 720S Spider replaces the 650S Spider in the lineup and enables McLaren to compete with the 488 Spider and Huracan Spyder. It’s the third member of the family, joining the coupe and the race-spec 720S GT3. The 720S Spider shares all exterior and interior features, as well as the drivetrain centered around the 4.0-liter V-8 engine, with the coupe model. Although it’s 108 pounds heavier than the coupe, the 720S Spider remains the lightest in its class with a dry weight of 2,937 pounds.

The result is a tri-color beast with tons of exposed carbon fiber.

Are we getting to the point when personalization has gone too far? Henry Ford used to say that you could have any color on your Ford Model T as long as the color was black. Now, every luxury manufacturer brags about its "nearly infinite" choices, and depending on how deep are your pockets, each is willing to open before you a whole world of options. The MSO division offers multiple worlds, one for each of McLaren’s models, and the 720S Spider has just joined this exclusive group at the Geneva Motor Show.

2019 McLaren 600LT Spider

For when you want to have wind blowing in your hair out on the race track

The McLaren 600LT Spider is one of the few drop-top sports cars with barely any compromises over the coupe. It’s just 110 pounds heavier than the fixed-head version but, besides that, it offers the same 592 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of torque from the 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine. The catch? It costs almost $50,000 more than the 570S Spider that McLaren used as a starting point for the LT.

After teasing us with a video just a few days ago, McLaren finally released the official images of the mighty 600LT Spider. Again, LT stands for ’Long-Tail,’ but there is no long tail on this car to speak of, it’s merely as a pale homage to the Le Mans class-winning McLaren F1 GTR from 22 years ago. What you do get, though, is a highly competent track beast with the added benefit of being able to allow the elements to take their toll on you when the roof’s down.

If you like what you’re hearing you should rush to pre-order one because McLaren said that the production would be limited with "build slots scheduled around other Sports and Super Series models." Production is said to commence in March and will go on for a year. The only problem with the 600LT Spider is, frankly, the existence of the Ferrari 488 Pista Spider with its 710 horsepower, 568 pound-feet of torque that’s likely quicker although it also costs a lot more as well.

The absolute definition of having your cake and eating it too

If you have money and are into cars, what do you do? You go to McLaren and order up one of the coolest cars on the market, tailored to your exact specification, right? Of course, you do, but what happens when you have a little too much money? Well, you do what McLaren’s latest customer did – you walk into McLaren, head right over to McLaren Special Operations, and commission, not one, but two, McLaren 675LT models with 100-percent complete specification tailored to whatever your little heart desires. After all, who wants just a custom 675LT Coupe when you can have it topless sister the 675LT Spider? What we can admit, is whoever the anonymous customer was, they certainly have some really good taste. The cars take on a beautiful silver color, with each representing a different finish, while they also get some special MSO carbon fiber and some unique pinstriping in all the right places. This twins even feature the same wheels, while the interior of both get a fine combination of red and black.

But, that’s neither here nor there, and the real joy is in the details, so let’s take a closer look at these one-of-a-kind twins commissioned from nothing other than MSO. They are called the MSO R, and it’s time to go say hi.

The company’s most affordable convertible yet!

Introduced in 2015, the McLaren 570S brought the British firm into a new era. Not only it completed a three-car lineup, a first for McLaren, but it also became the company’s most affordable vehicle yet. Available in two versions with different outputs, the 570S also spawned a GT model with additional cargo space, softer suspension and improved insulation for touring enthusiasts. Come 2017, and the 570S had its roof chopped off (not literally, of course) to become the 570S Spider.

Unlike its siblings, the 570S Spider didn’t benefit from a glamorous unveiling at an auto show, but the drop-top supercar is just as important as any other McLaren. With the 570S giving the British firm access to a new niche, one that includes the iconic Porsche 911, the Spider now gives McLaren a weapon against the 911 Cabriolet and the Audi R8 Spyder. We will see the sports car in the metal at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, but until then let’s have a closer look at the design and the spec sheet.

2018 McLaren 720S

McLaren’s replacement for the 650S brings more power, better performance, and new tech

After three years on the market, the first-generation McLaren Super Series was replaced by a redesigned model at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show. Dubbed 720S, the core member of the second-generation Super Series has been thoroughly redesigned inside and out and gained a revised, larger V-8 engine.

Introduced in 2014 as a replacement for the 12C, the company’s first mass-produced sports car, the McLaren Super Series has had a successful three of years on the market as of 2017. It spawned several road-going and race-spec versions, including the 650S, 675LT, and 650S GT3, forming the brand’s most comprehensive family of vehicles yet. But, despite its success and tremendous performance, McLaren decided to give the Super Series a makeover and launch the brand-new 720S in 2017.

Codenamed P14, the successor to the 650S is the first new model in McLaren’s new business plan, which includes a £1-billion investment for 15 new products by 2022. Built around a new carbon-fiber tub called the Monocage II, the second-gen Super Series ditched the company’s ubiquitous 3.8-liter V-8 for a new, 4.0-liter unit. Design-wise, The 720S is a significant departure from the 650S and incorporates radical active aerodynamics, as well as loads of new technology in the cockpit. As you’d expect from a new-generation supercar, the 720S is lighter, faster, and even more dynamically capable than its predecessor. Let’s find out more about that in the review below.

2016 McLaren MSO Carbon Series LT

Inspired by the carbon-bodied McLaren P1 MSO

The McLaren 675LT was launched in 2015 as a higher performance version of the 650S. Named the LT as a tribute to the McLaren F1 GTR "Long Tail," the 675LT is the quickest and most powerful member of the Super Series family. It is also the most exclusive, being built in a limited edition of only 500 units. A targa-top, Spider version was also launched, also limited to 500 examples, and both versions sold like hot cakes.

With the car still in production as of June 2016, but with no way to buy it, McLaren is rubbing more salt into the wound by launching an even more exclusive version of the 675LT. Dubbed Carbon Series LT, this new sports car is based on the 675LT Spider and was inspired by the carbon-bodied P1 the British firm unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. The special-edition model is limited to only 25 units and, as it usually goes with such vehicles, all have been purchased by loyal customers already.

Production of the Carbon Series LT will begin this autumn at the McLaren Special Operations shop. First deliveries are expected before the end of 2016. McLaren didn’t say whether the Carbon Series LT will also get a coupe version, but until that happens, let’s have a closer look at this all-carbon Spider model.

The most aggressive member of the Super Series family goes topless

At the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, McLaren launched the 675LT, a modified version of the 650S that paid homage to the F1 "Longtail." Slightly longer than the 650S, revised aerodynamically, and equipped with a more powerful engine, the 675LT was limited to only 500 units and became a hit, selling out in just two months after its official debut. Although the original "Longtail" wasn’t offered in a drop-top configuration, McLaren went ahead and chopped the roof off the 675LT in order to give enthusiasts a more powerful and exclusive option to the already exhilarating 650S Spider.

Set to go on sale next year, the 675LT Spider will find its way to customers starting summer 2016, most likely as a 2017 model in the U.S.. Production will commence as soon as McLaren builds all 500 675LTs. The 675LT Spider is the seventh member of the Super Series family, which already includes the 650S, 625C, 650S Le Mans, and the track-only 650S GT3.

As expected, the convertible shares most of its exterior design with the coupe, while the drivetrain is identical. Although heavier than the coupe, the 675LT Spider is just as fast, being quicker than the newly-launched Ferrari 488 GTB. Keep reading for the full specs.

Unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the McLaren 675LT was developed as a modified version of the 650S that paid homage to the iconic F1 "Longtail." All told, it’s a track-focused evolution of the 650S, much like the original "Longtail" was to the F1. With all 500 units accounted for in a matter of weeks, McLaren went ahead and chopped the roof off the 675LT in order to give enthusiasts a more exclusive option to the already exciting 650S Spider.

Introduced in late 2015 and scheduled to go under the spotlight at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the 675LT Spider was also set to be built in only 500 examples. Not surprisingly, all units were sold out in just two weeks after it was officially out on sale, meaning that McLaren’s booth in Geneva will actually showcase a model you can no longer purchase. Not exactly a deal breaker given that most of us can’t afford a $370,000+ supercar. Thankfully, the Brits will bring more than just a regular 675LT Spider at the show. In order to celebrate the drop-top’s incredible success, McLaren commissioned MSO to develop a unique version of the supercar, sporting a special paint job and extra carbon-fiber inside and out.

Don’t start looking for your checkbook though, as this bespoke 675LT Spider will most likely be shipped to a new home as soon as the Geneva Motor Show is over.

2016 McLaren 650S Spider Al Sahara 79 By MSO

If you were at the 2015 Dubai International Auto Show, you would see three customized McLaren models sitting at the company’s booth – a Mclaren 570S, McLaren P1, and an exclusive McLaren 650S Spider named the 650S Spider Al Sahara 79. This custom 650S was developed by McLaren Special Operations (MSO,) and built exclusively for the Middle East market as a tribute to McLaren’s most loyal market.

Ian Gorsuch, McLaren Automotive’s Regional Director of the Middle East and Africa, said, “McLaren Automotive is a true pioneer in its approach to the design and development of high performance sports and supercars, and the 650S Spider Al Sahara 79 by MSO is evidence of that. This truly unique project – our first in the Middle East – is inspired by a region that is home to some of our most loyal customers.”

The 650S Spider Al Sahara 79 is said to be inspired by the rich history and culture of the Middle East. Even the name has a meaning related back to the Middle East. “Al Sahara” means Desert when translated from Arabic. “79” is the atomic number of gold – the precious metal that has long been associated with opulence and luxury in the Middle East.

So, now that we know a little about the McLaren 650S Al Sahara 79, or “Desert Gold,” let’s dive into the details and see just what MSO did to this 650S to make it that much more special.
