The company’s first EQ vehicle is a crossover

The Mercedes-Benz EQC is the company’s first all-electric crossover. Previewed by a concept car shown at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, the EQC made its debut two years later. Aimed at competitor like the Jaguar I-Pace, Tesla Model X, and the upcoming BMW iX3, the EQC is also Mercedes’ first car under the EQ brand.

Unveiled in Stockholm, Sweden on September 4, the EQC will make its auto show debut in Paris in early October. Under development for many years, the EQC is the result of Mercedes’ commitment to launch a full lineup of all-electric vehicles under the EQ brand, which stands for "electric intelligence." Although similar in size to the GLC, the EQC rides on a brand-new platform and sports a design of its own. It also debuts the company’s new-generation battery and electric motor assembly. Let’s find out more about it in the review below.

Love It or Leave It - The 2019 Mercedes-Benz EQC

Is it too good or not good enough?

After years of rumors, teasers, and concept cars, Mercedes-Benz finally launched the EQ brand. Short for "electric intelligence," EQ made its official debut through the EQC, a compact crossover similar in size to the familiar GLC. It’s Mercedes’ first all-electric crossover and its second EV after the B-Class Electric. The EQC’s introduction is definitely a major event for the German brand, but does it have what it takes to compete against the successful Tesla Model X and the upcoming BMW iX3? It’s still early to say, but we already know what we love and hate about it.

Mercedes EQC vs Tesla Model X

Mercedes EQC vs Tesla Model X

The EQC is here to help Tesla shorten the waiting periods for the Model X!

Mercedes is finally here with its trump card in the electric crossover segment – the Mercedes-Benz EQC. On 4 September, when the whole world was excited to witness the launch of this beast, there was one particular nervous face as well - the face that has been dominating the e-crossover market for quite some time now – The Tesla Model X. It was natural for the Model X to be threatened by a car which has a name that stands for ‘Electric Intelligence’. The king of the jungle finally has stiff competition (no offense, Jaguar lovers! the I-Pace is good too) in terms of looks, practicality, and performance. How can we not compare the two? Tesla’s days of bullying the kids in this segment seem to be nearing its end.

Not Pleased With the 2020 Mercedes EQC’s Bland Design? More Radical Models are Coming

Let’s hope so because the Mercedes EQC’s looks left a lot to be desired

Mercedes-Benz’s future lineup of EQ electric cars will feature more distinctive styling than the recently revealed EQC all-electric crossover. The revelation comes from EQ sales and marketing chief, Jorg Heinemann, who told Autocar that the EQC is just the tip of the iceberg as far as the EQ brand’s design creativity is concerned. For now, Mercedes is more concerned about establishing a starting point for the entire EQ family without going too far out on a limb with its styling.

Mercedes-Benz EQC vs Jaguar I-Pace

Mercedes-Benz EQC vs Jaguar I-Pace

Europe’s leading premium electric SUV go head to head

Like most mainstream automakers, Mercedes has been working on an all-electric drivertrain for more than a decade now. However, the Germans joined the market relatively late, with its first production model, the B-Class Electric Drive, being introduced in 2014. Four years later and Mercedes has finally rolled out its first fully independent EV built on a stand-alone platform. It’s called the EQC, and it’s part of the company’s new EQ brand for electric vehicles.

The EQC joins a rather tight niche of all-electric crossovers, with competitors including the Tesla Model X, Jaguar I-Pace, and the upcoming BMW iX3. The Model X is already dominating the segment, but the I-Pace is also new to the market. With the EQC set to go on sale in 2019, it’s the right time to compare it against it’s most important rivals. This time around, we’re looking at its European counterpart, the Jaguar I-Pace. Let’s find out how the two compare in terms of design, technology, and drivetrain below.

Mercedes EQC vs Mercedes Generation EQ Concept

The EQC is Mercedes-Benz’s first all-electric production model

The Mercedes EQC was finally unveiled by Mercedes-Benz, and while it does share a number of styling cues with its concept counterpart, the Generation EQ Concept, you’re not going to mistake one for the other. That’s to be expected; the concept still looks far more dynamic than the production model. The latter, on the other hand, looks a lot more like what you’d expect from a production version. It looks safe, conservative, and, well, it’s not as visually arresting as we hoped it would be.

Watch the Mercedes EQA Cruise Through Sicily - Video

This is the future of Mercedes and it looks beautiful

The Mercedes Concept EQA is shaping up to be one of Mercedes’ most important models in its recent history. Not only is it acting as the foundation of the German automaker’s all-electric onslaught, but it’s also turning into the leading man on Merc’s EQ-related promotional content.

The latest example of the Concept EQA’s star power can be seen in this new commercial featuring the absolutely stunning concept vehicle on a nice joy ride along picturesque Sicily. The ad doesn’t really tell us anything about the Concept EQA other than the fact that it looks amazing with all those carefully placed light signatures throughout its body. When they’re all lit, the concept takes an entirely new look that’s an absolute feast to the eyes. Mercedes even calls the ones located on the EQA’s flanks “illuminated arabesques,” which sounds like a phrase the company cooked up but is no less awesome to digest.

Beyond its gorgeous looks, the EQA’s role as a precursor to Mercedes’ full-fledged all-electric lineup is well-established. It may take the form of a hatchback, but it does give us a good look at what we can expect out of the German automaker’s future EQ lineup. The concept, among other things, gets batteries of various outputs, powering a motor in the front and back with as much as 200 kilowatts of power on tap. That gives the concept as much as 368 pound-feet of torque and the ability to sprint from 0 to 60 mph in under five seconds to go with a range of 250 miles.

There’s a lot to be excited about as far as the Mercedes’ EQ family is concerned. That should be the case because Daimler is spending almost $600 million to get its Smart production facility up-to-speed with the requirements needed to build the production versions of its all-electric EQ lineup, beginning with the EQC electric crossover, the EQA, and the rest of Mercedes’ future electric lineup.

But before any of that, enjoy the Mercedes Concept EQA going out and about in one of the most beautiful places in Italy. If that doesn’t get you excited about the possibilities, I don’t know what will.
