The Mercedes CLA has been officially unveiled at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, and, as the spy shots revealed, the next logical step was a more powerful, AMG version. The model made its debut today at the 2013 New York Auto Show and will be put on sale in September.
When compared to the standard CLA-Class, the new AMG version will add a more aggressive design language, with elements we have already seen on models like the CLS 63 AMG. These specific elements include an AMG "twin blade" radiator grille, an AMG front apron, large cooling air intakes and for the rear an AMG apron and of course the two chrome-plated twin tailpipes of the AMG sports exhaust system.
Even if a tiny sedan, the new CLA 45 AMG is offering technologies used in the SLS AMG sports car, like the cooling system for the four-cylinder engine.

The CLA-Class is, in all likelihood, still wet behind the ears, having only been around for a little over a month. But that hasn’t stopped the German automaker from rolling out a limited-edition version of the compact four-door coupe for its home-countryclientele.
It’s called the CLA Edition 1 and it’ll only be available for the first 12 months of the CLA-CLass’ lifespan. What it means is you have pretty much the entire year to buy one. Otherwise, well, you’re going to be out of luck.
It’s limited nature allows it to be completely distinct from the rest of its kind and that was made evident by a number of aesthetic enhancements, including a choice of five different colors - Cosmos Black, Mountain Grey, Cirrus White, Night Black and Designo Polar Silver Magno - to go with an AMG "Sport" package that features new bumpers with larger air intakes, enhanced skirts, and a set of black multi-spoke alloy wheels.
Inside, Mercedes dressed up the CLA Edition 1 with what it calls NEON ART, a fancy way of saying the interior features leather and microfiber upholstery with yellow stitching. Add a new Nappa leather-wrapped flat-bottomed sports steering wheel, and a new aluminum finish trim and there you have it, folks: Edition 1!
For the chance to own one, you probably need to be in Germany because the model will be exclusively sold there at a price of €35,402 ($47,400) for the base CLA 180 all the way up to €44,625 ($60,000) for the CLA 250 Sport.

Mercedes’ star at this year’s Super Bowl ad will be its latest addition to the lineup: the new CLA Class. The previous commercial specially prepared for this year’s Big Game featured model and actress Kate Upton, but the second one does one better by bringing together Usher, Kate Upton and Willem Dafoe.
The idea behind this new commercial is quite simple: why sell your soul to the Devil and get everything you’ve ever dreamt about, when you can have the Mercedes CLA for only $29,900 and obtain pretty much the same? At least in theory, of course! Who plays the Devil in this latest ad? Well, we won’t ruin the surprise and we will let you watch the video and discover!
After watching it, let us know in the comments section below what ad you find more interesting: this one, or the one featuring just Kate Upton!
It’s that time of the year again, fellas. The Super Bowl is less than two weeks away and, as is always the case around this time, a lot of automakers are gearing up for a blitzkrieg of commercials to be shown during the game, which features the 49ers and Ravens this time around.
One commercial that has made its way onto the Web is the one for the Mercedes CLA-Class. And wouldn’t you know it, Mercedes tapped the perfect celebrity to pique the interests of men everywhere: Kate Upton.
Everything Kate Upton does these days generates strong interest from all warm-blooded males. Heck, if she showed up in a commercial with a space suit on and covering her entire body, she’s going to find a way to make wearing a space suit sexy.
So, imagine how transfixed we all were when we watched this commercial featuring Upton shaking her thang while a bunch of dudes washed the CLA-Class. She’s too beautiful for words so we’ll just leave it all up to you to enjoy it as much as we did.
And remember, there is a car in the ad too, so pay attention!
The 2014 Mercedes CLA will make its world debut in January 2013 at the Detroit Auto Show, but today the first images of the new baby sedan have surfaced on the Internet. As you can see from these leaked images, the production version CLA will retain the distinctive elements of the Concept Style Coupe unveiled at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show, but in the same time it retains the features of the CLS-Class - making it easy to recognize as a baby CLS.
The next CLA will be built on the same platform as the new A-Class and will be offered with a choice of three gasoline engines and four diesel ones. The gasoline engines include two 1.6-liter turbocharged engines – one with 121 horsepower and one with 154 horsepower – and a range-topping 2.0-liter engine with 207 horsepower. The diesel lineup will include a pair of 1.8-liter engines with 108 horsepower and 134 horsepower, plus 2.1-liter engines offered with 168 and 201 horsepower.
Full details will be unveiled during the car’s official debut in Detroit.
Mercedes has unveiled a series of official spy shots for the upcoming CLA 45 AMG sedan, which is set to be unveiled in the spring of 2013. The new images come with confirmation that the sports sedan will feature Benz’s famed 4MATIC system that will transform it into "one of the most dynamic, powerful and efficient four-cylinder series-production compact cars."
The upcoming CLA 45 AMG will be powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers a total of 325 horsepower and a peak torque of 295 pound-feet. The engine will be mated to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission with dual clutch technology and will send the power to all four wheels via the aforementioned 4MATIC AWD system.
The new 4MATIC system will be feature a 3-stage stability program: ESP ON, ESP SPORT Handling Mode and ESP OFF. The first two programs will assist the driver with appropriate control strategies and will increase the torque send to the rear wheels, while the third mode has been specially designed for experienced drivers only on cordoned-off race tracks.
Mercedes will unveil the new CLA 45 AMG at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and, unfortunately, there is still four months between now and its debut. We cannot tell for sure if this is a leaked video (above) or not — it surely looks leaked – but we are just happy we get the chance to see the CLA 45 AMG in action.
Rumors are pointing toward CLA 45 AMG being powered by the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine found in the A45 AMG, which delivers a total of 325 horsepower. The engine will be mated to a four-wheel-drive from the Swedish company Haldex.
When compared to the standard CLA, the AMG version will receive a deep front spoiler, wider track and wheels, massive brakes, chunky side sills, and a spoiler on the trunk. Check out the above video and let us know what you think of it.
The first spy shots of the future Mercedes CLA 45 AMG were taken by our spy photographers back in August, but since then, the luxury sedan has been holed up somewhere, more than likely getting all of its kinks worked out. With the work seemingly completed, Mercedes has taken the upcoming CLA 45 AMG out for another round of testing.
As you can see, this prototype is still heavily camouflaged, but we can make out the deep front spoiler, wider track and wheels, the massive brakes, the chunky side sills, and the spoiler on the trunk. While Mercedes tried to fool us with those fake exhaust pipes, the spy photographers said they couldn’t disguise the powerful sound that came out of them during the drive.
The CLA 45 AMG will be powered by a 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbo engine delivering a total of 325 HP - the same engine that will first be used in the A45 AMG. Just like the A45 AMG, the CLA 45 AMG will also get four-wheel-drive from Swedish company Haldex to make sure the power doesn’t just make your tires smoke.
Expect to see the new Mercedes CLA 45 AMG sometime in 2013.
Now that we have seen both the Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake and the CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake, rumors have sprouted that the next CLA will also be offered in a Shooting Brake version. Just the other week, we brought out the first details on this upcoming model, and today we have a cool rendering that brings those facts to life!
Just like the sedan version, the next CLA Shooting Brake will be built on Mercedes’ new Modular Front Architecture (MFA) platform and will take its design inspiration from the recently announced CLS Shooting Brake. Under the hood, we will see the same engine line-up as in the upcoming CLA sedan: a 1.6 liter turbocharged petrol engine offered with either 121 HP or 154 HP. Mercedes will also offer a CLA AMG Shooting Brake which will be powered by a a 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit that will deliver about 330 HP and 332 lb-ft of torque.
The upcoming Mercedes CLA Shooting Brake will arrive on the market a few months after the sedan version, so don’t expect it before 2014.
These past few days have been pretty busy for our spy photographers. Just yesterday, they were able to catch two of Jaguar’s up and coming models, and today they’re bringing us images of the upcoming Mercedes CLA in light camouflage doing some testing around the Nurburgring.
The future Mercedes CLA, also known as the CLC until recently, can be easily described as a baby CLS. The model will be built on the new A-Class platform - hence the name - and will be offered with the same engine line-up as the A-Class, but with the luxury level offered in the CLS. It will be offered in front-wheel-drive configuration as standard and with both petrol and diesel engines. While Mercedes has confirmed anything just yet, we expect to see a line-up including both the 1.6 and 2.0 liter petrol engines with power going up to 211 HP. The diesel line-up’s top version will be the 170 HP A 220 CDI. An AMG version will also be offered and rumors say it will get a 335 HP turbocharged 2.0-liter unit.
The new Mercedes CLA will make its official debut in 2013.
Rumors about a possible baby Mercedes SLS have been swirling around for awhile, but now Head of Design, Gorden Wagener, has confirmed in an interview with AutoExpress that the company is indeed working on a new sports car. In the same interview, he also confirmed that the production version of the Concept Style Coupe will be called the CLA and that a coupe version of the ML 4x4 is also in the pipeline.
The future SLC will drop the gullwing doors of the current SLS sports car and will be offered with an all-new 4.0-liter V8 engine. The SLC will arrive sometime in 2014, but until then, the company will be debuting two more versions of the SLS, the first of which will be the Black Series in July.
The new model will take on models like the Porsche 911 and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, and will be priced from £80,000, or about $130,000 at the current exchange rates.
Mercedes has announced that they are working on an affordable new coup1 and a junior four-wheel drive. The new model, set to be a competitor for the BMW 1-Series and Audi A3 will debut in 2011.
The new coupe, believed to be called CLA will replace the three-door CLC, which is based around the old C-class.
By positioning the new car as a coupé rather than a hatchback Mercedes-Benz will try to give the CLA an upmarket image, as well as justifying prices that are likely to start at the equivalent of £19,000 when sales get under way just over four years from now.
The CLA will be powered by a a new range of four-cylinder, direct-injection petrol and common-rail diesel engines. Unlike the units used in today’s A and B-class line-ups, they will be shared with other models in the Mercedes range. Power outputs will range from 120bhp to 200bhp.
