Mercedes started teasing the idea of developing a BLK model back when BMW announced the X1 and Audi divulged the Q3 crossover. It was a particular market that Mercedes couldn’t compete in for lack of a vehicle, and since the GLK turned out to be a good idea, why not fill the void in the competing market by sliding a model right underneath it?

The new BLK, set to be released sometime in 2013, will be built on the same MFA architecture (Mercedes Front-wheel drive architecture) as the next generation A- and B-Class. We expect to see a design language inspired by the Concept A-Class revealed earlier this year, but adapted to a production version model. The interior will combine the latest technologies and will offer enough room for about five-people.

Under the hood, expect to see the same engines used for the A- and B-Class, with a possible hybrid variant. This means we will see two different four-cylinder engines - a 170 HP 2.2 liter engine and a 204 HP 2.0 liter -, both offered with 4MATIC technologies. We may also see a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine with about 240 HP and the European market will get its usual diesel line-up.

Availability is still a question, but since Mercedes is allowing the A-Class to find its way on over to the US market, we’re thinking we may get a chance to drive the BLK as well. If we do see it on our side of the pond, prices will be set at about $30K ($5,000 less than the GLK).

Mercedes’s cars are really awesome and always has the look of a luxurious and a classy car like on this BLK. This kind of car is reliable on everyday use.

It looks so elegant on its car lines, and I think it will be more looks better if it is on a white or black body paint. Anyway, I hope that they would include some interesting technology on its interior.

Quite striking sharp angular headlamps, bold wheel arches, a coupe like roof line ending with a hatch back rear end. This couldn’t be competitive in for not enough a vehicle for the Mercedes.

I really like this one, I’m so impressed with it. It had the looks of a luxurious and a classy car that I can’t see with the other convertible car.

I notice that the platform of the car is kind of unique. This Mercedes car is like a passenger vehicle and also looks like an SUV. I also like the packaging of the car, interior and exterior packaging.

Yeah, I think so too. But they probably would have a hard time trying to catch up with the other ones, since they already have a head start. But who, knows, it may go differently.

I think Mercedes really made a good decision in going ahead with the development of this one. I would say that they are already lagging behind other carmakers in the crossover department.

Yeah, I agree I bet it wouldn’t since its a smaller version. I wonder if the sale of this car would be similar to Porsche Cajun.

Actually, I can’t see any new features from this car. Its platform was taken from a typical car. I bet its not that stunning compare to the other model of Mercedes.

I’m glad that the new Mercedes BLK has been rebuilt and conceptualized with new technologies; a good seating capacity for all members of the family. Making it one of the highest rated cars this month. Unfortunately, European market will have the first chance to grab this one.

I wonder if it would be similar to Porsche Cajun since it comes with smaller version crossover? I’m afraid for the reliability and sale of this car since Cajun is nit that successful in the car industry.

So, what’s the difference of Crossover and SUV? However, I think their design for compact car and crossover is closely related. And does it mean that it would be in smaller version?

Looks Great!Mercedes is really famous in the market especially in an A class. That’s why most of their cars are very popular in A class society. This one is very cool and impressive. Nice job for Mercedes.
