The 2014 Mercedes-Benz->ke187 E63 AMG is finally out of its doldrums of quad-oval lights and messy body kits. The AMG Hammer is well and truly reborn with this latest generation of ultra-fast, luxurious and stylish new E63 models.

The E63 now wears the trendy sheetmetal to challenge even the sporty M6 and the Audi RS7. Understated appeal has always been an AMG E-Class feature, but the new styling enhancements mean that the E63 is extremely serious, attention-grabbing and highly entertaining to enjoy up close.

Despite a subtle sedan shape, even blind people know that a very special car is approaching as the E63 AMG gurgles into earshot. This engine maintains much of the previous staccato machine-gun fire noise from the last cars' naturally-aspirated engines.

In 2014, the E63 -- for the first time -- gains 4Matic all-wheel-drive as standard in the U.S. to go along with this beastly twin-boosted V-8, and a cabin whose luxury and comfort are contenders for world's best.

Exterior

The new car loses the ponton fenders in favor of simple rear fender slashes, the new nose brings futuristic LED lights that make Audi seem dull, and black chrome accents for the lower bumper and air dam to nail home that this is the E-Class flagship.

2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S-Model - Nose Styling Analysis

The LED lighting is one of the most special aspects of the E63's new nose. These lights are beautiful in person, and stunning from all angles.

The twin eyebrow's unique shape keeps the flow of the heavy-handed LED's on the CLA-Class and others, but enhances it with highly sophisticated detailing.

Unlike most LED executions, and even the dull line of horizontal LEDs that Mercedes-Benz->ke187 has been using for years now.

Unlike the old lights, these full-LED lamps are not something that could ever be bought off the shelf. Not from Amazon, definitely not from Ebay, and something most OEM car brands cannot even achieve -- yeah we mean you, Ford.

The standard appearance is just the twin eyebrows as the daytime running lights. With the low-beams engaged, the active lamps are engaged and light up four squares of light inside the eyebrow shape.

These small and hyper-intense areas of light are variable by conditions. Even better, the square shape finally puts the previous E-Class light shape out of its misery.

2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S-Model - Profile Styling Analysis

The profile of the E63 AMG is defined by its huge wheels, low ride height and visibly gigantic braking package. Special paint looks terrific in black, with almost a wet-look matte finish that is brilliant in the sunlight.

Losing the silly rounded back fenders also helps enhance the stance of the E63. Critically, the car still rides extremely low to the road, despite the inclusion of 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S-Model - Tail Styling Analysis

The tail of the E63 is just as subtle as the nose and profile, helping the E63 look more timeless than some of the previous body kits these gentlemen preferred in the 1990s.

The huge squared-off pipes make it clear that huge pace is just a toe-tip away, and the matching black chrome in the lower shroud is quite unique and fresh.

Interior

The interior of the E63 AMG is absolutely delightful. The AMG active seats feature a huge and long seat base unlike almost any other car - dramatically increasing comfort and support from the moment you sink into that perforated leather.

Adjustable bolster widths are something shared with the Corvette Stingray, but the E63 goes one farther with active side supports in corners. It is a subtle thing, and reminds you that the car is doing everything it can to make you happy.

The way the seats pull you in reminded me of a former lover who cuddled quite aggressively -- in a good way.

The stitched leather of the dashboard, all the low-sheen metallic accents on every knob, and the IWC clock face all work together to seal the deal. If there is a more inviting and comfortable supercar cabin - we have yet to experience it.

Of course, the back seat is roomy enough to take four guys out on the town, which is not something that is on the table for most of the cars that are as quick as this AMG Mercedes-Benz.

2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S-Model - Performance Feel Analysis

Pricing and Availability

The E63 AMG starts just above $91,000 before options, and is available in Mercedes-Benz dealers nationwide.

One accessory that will surely start people talking is the LED-illuminated central star in the grille. Despite sounding very tacky, it looks quite nice on the E63 AMG with the car's standard full-LED lighting system.

Conclusion

This is a car that reaches almost-supersonic speeds in less than 10 seconds. No matter what the drive mode or the weather, the E63 absolutely devours the horizon ahead. Eating clouds and air with the ferocity of a Veyron, the E63 AMG's accessible performance is part of its charm. A ride so smooth and brakes so strong, they make the Stingray and GT-R seem a bit under-prepared? Yep, that's the E63 AMG.

Unlike hardcore sports cars or manual-transmission cars, getting totally relaxed and confident in the E63 is much quicker than with a Corvette Stingray or 370Z Nismo.

This is a car that is so cool even blind people like it, and so easy to drive - that same blind man would be at home doing 100 mph plus in just a few minutes as well.
