It was just a year ago that we learned Mercedes was killing off the CLS Shooting Brake, but as far as we know the next-gen CLS coupe will go on sale for the 2018 model year. Be that as it may, Mercedes has decided to launch a Final Edition of the CLS Shooting Brake. Why? Well, considering the CLS Shooting Brake performed poorly in the U.S. and China sales-wise, why not try to weasel as much money as possible out of the few who liked it, right? Furthermore, now that the CLS Coupe is also getting a “Final Edition,” it makes one wonder whether or not Merc will drop the CLS line altogether. We’ll worry about that later, though.

For now, we’ll talk a little bit about this final edition. According to Mercedes (despite the poor sales factor,) the CLS line has “long been established among customers as style icons.” Ola Kӓllenius, a member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and the person responsible for MB car sales, said, “We’ve produced iconic designs on wheels in the shape of the CLS Coupé and the CLS Shooting Brake. The exciting lines of the most recent versions once again set the pulse racing. With high-tech ingredients such as the innovative Multibeam LED headlamps, the nine-speed automatic transmission or the modern multimedia system, they appeal to both head and heart in equal measure.”

With that said, the CLS Final Edition models feature some several optional features as standard equipment to go with a few AMG touches here and there. So, let’s take a look at the Final Edition model and see what it’s all about.

What makes the Mercedes-Benz CLS Final Edition special

On the outside, the CLS Final Edition features the AMG diamond radiator grille in chrome, to go with the AMG body kit that features a new front fascia with the air intake vents accented by diamond lattice and chrome trim elements. To further increase appeal and tie the exterior together, there are also AMG side skirts and an AMG rear fascia with simulated air outlets and a shiny chrome strip. The car rides on 19-inch AMG multi-spoke wheels that feature a black high-sheen finish. As an option, you could choose 18-inch AMG five-spoke light-alloy wheels. Rounding out the exterior are the dual-exhaust outlets made from polished stainless steel and Multibeam LED headlamps with adaptive high beam assist.

On the inside, owners will be greeted with heated multicontour seats that feature fine black leather and light-colored stitching. Furthermore, the side bolsters, backrest and seat cushion can be electrically adjusted for comfort. The Final Edition also gets an AMG flat-bottom steering wheel wrapped in leather with DINAMICA in the grip areas. The shift paddles are finished in silver chrome to go with stainless-steel pedals with rubber studs. Mercedes wanted to give the interior a better sense of open space, so it also includes a sliding sunroof to go with the dark-tinted glass on the sides and rear. For those of you who don’t appreciate tinted glass, the Final Edition models can be optioned with clear glass as well.

As far as other options, the Final Edition models can be finished in any of the colors offered within the CLS range and with six different trim elements that will allow you to customize the model to your liking. As far as the drivetrain goes, Mercedes claims that “virtually all” of the engines and transmission options available to the standard CLS line are up for the offering. The Final Edition models come at a premium of €8,211 over the price of the standard CLS, which computes to about $9,085 at current exchange rates.
