The 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600 is already one of the most powerful, luxurious and exclusive production sedans->ke142 on the planet, so what is a customer to do if he wants even more power, luxury and exclusivity? Send it to Brabus->ke368. Introduced earlier this year, the Brabus 900 shows the tuning potential of Mercedes’->ke187 flagship luxury sedan, and the world got its first live look at the high-powered Maybach->ke52 limousine at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

From the engine to the highly detailed interior, the German tuner house has put its touches on every aspect of the latest Maybach, creating what is essentially a four-wheeled alternative to a private luxury jet. Now this isn’t the first time Brabus has gone to work on a Maybach sedan, but this new Brabus 900 far surpasses its predecessor in every regard, including making that car’s output of 749 horsepower and 811 pound-feet of torque seem downright feeble. I know, right?

Exterior

Considering how extreme the Brabus-tuned Maybach is, the exterior is surprisingly reserved. To accommodate the added power and speed, Brabus gave the Maybach some aerodynamic upgrades, including the more aggressive front fascia (which looks almost like those of the current Mercedes-AMG models) and the new rear fascia with the Brabus-signature quad exhaust outlets. Finishing off the Brabus look, the sportier Maybach gets staggered-width, 21-inch wheels with a stylish Y-spoke design, and the suspension has been lowered an inch.

Interior

Not even the interior of the Maybach was off limits for Brabus. Although customers have array of fully customizable options to meet their individual preferences, Brabus has given the four-passenger luxury suite of a cabin a good once-over with a “limitless variety of types of leather and Alcantara in any desired color” as well as Brabus’ exclusive "iBusiness" multimedia system. To accommodate the higher top speed, this sedan also gets a specific gauge cluster with a speedometer that tops out at 400 km/h (or about 250 mph).

Drivetrain

If there’s one thing that Brabus does best, it is engine upgrades, and the Brabus 900 is proof. Proving that there is no replacement for displacement, Brabus bored out the Maybach S600’s stock 6.0-liter V-12 to 6.3 liters, and in the process it raised the engine’s power output from 523 horsepower and 612 pound-feet of torque up to 887 horsepower and 1,106 pound-feet of torque. At a certain point the brain just boggles, doesn't it? That's almost double the torque.

This power is good enough to allow the massive sedan to accelerate from 0-60 in about 3.5 seconds with the ability to hit a top speed of 217 mph. This engine first made its appearance in the Brabus Rocket 900 earlier this year, and with that car based on the standard 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class – itself the basis for this new Maybach – this move was probably a no-brainer for Brabus. To help the engine breath better, it is also equipped with a ram-air type intake under the hood and a high-performance exhaust system.

Prices

Brabus has not revealed pricing for its Brabus 900, but with the standard Mercedes-Maybach S600 starting at $189,350, the price of this fully tuned version will be as extreme as the rest of the sedan. Although Brabus does sell some cars in the U.S., they aren’t very common, so don’t expect to see a Brabus 900 terrorizing Bentley->ke15 and Rolls-Royce->ke74 owners here.

Conclusion

Does the world need an 887-horsepower limousine? You bet it does! With the introduction of Brabus 900, this performance-oriented Maybach could very well be the first supercar->ke177 of luxury sedans. Whether blasting down the autobahn or rolling up to the symphony, the Brabus 900 is the ultimate sedan for both drivers and those being chauffeured around in the back seat.
