The Mercedes-AMG GT may be grabbing all the headlines these days, and for good reason. The whole family of GT models are incredible and whatever attention they get is well-deserved. But let’s not forget about this fact either. The AMG GTs are not the only sports cars Mercedes has in its lineup. One of them, the Mercedes SLC-Class, receives far less attention, but let it still be said, the SLC-Class still holds some weight as a solid sports car so it’s only fitting that it’s finally getting the attention it deserves in the form of the SLC-Class RedArt Edition.

Yes, the SLC-Class is getting a special edition model and it’s a well deserved one at that. It’s time Mercedes’ entry-level roadster got some of that SE love, right? Better late than never then because here it is, and even better, the RedArt Edition is not limited to a specific trim of the SLC-Class but instead is available to the whole lot of them. That includes the SLC 180, 200, 250d, 300, and for good measure, the AMG SLC43 too.

So what makes the SLC RedArt Edition a true special edition? Like most models that receive such a designation, the SLC RedArt gets infused with visual upgrades in the exterior and interior. The quantity of exclusivity isn’t that much, but they’re enough to separate this model from the standard lot. There’s even an option to infuse a little bit of “AMG-ness” into the roadster, and we all know what that could do to a sports car that’s already teeming with sportiness.

All told, the SLC RedArt Edition is worth the name it’s been given and it makes a pretty compelling case as an interesting option for those who are in the market for an SLC-Class.

What makes the Mercedes SLC-Class RedArt Edition so special?

Off the bat, some of you might recognize the treatment on the Mercedes SLC-Class RedArt Edition. I can’t blame you because Mercedes has actually dipped into this well before, most notably on cars like the 2014 Mercedes A250 Sport Night Edition and the 2014 Mercedes CLA45 AMG Edition.

That said, the fact that the SLC-Class stands as a model on its own, you could excuse Mercedes for tapping into a similar treatment here. For that, the German automaker opted to use a new and exclusive paint finish for this model. It’s called designo iridium silver magno matt and just as the name is long and hard to remember, it also works very well on the SLC-Class. In the right angle with the perfect amount of light striking it, the roadster looks pinpoint stunning. Adding to the car’s exclusivity are special red accents similar to the aforementioned models. The accents on the front and rear aprons, front splitter, and fins in the wings add a nice contrast to the exclusive body finish. A new set of 18-inch, 10-spoke light alloy wheels with red rim flanges and red brake callipers finish off the exterior look of the special edition SLC-Class, and for what it’s worth, the combination of upgrades all come together nicely to create an extra layer of personality to the roadster.

Move to the interior of the roadster and the upgrades become even more striking. The seats, for example come in black leather and silver pearl nappa leather inserts mixed in with exclusive upholstery. Even the head restraints are the recipients of carbon-embossed leather while the red contrast topstitching provide the steady contrast to the predominantly black and silver treatment of the cabin.

If these upgrades aren’t to your liking, some alternative options are also being offered. Most notable of these are the upholstery variants, which can also come in either nappa leather/DINAMICA microfiber or other options that are available to the SLC-Class. A multi-function sports steering wheel with carbon-embossed leather inserts can also be installed into the car.

Last but definitely not least is the option to avail the AMG Line version of the SLC-Class. Should this be the route you take, the AMG Line Version adds a few more extra goodies and creature comforts into the mix, including new bumpers, a new sports suspension, a different set of 18-inch wheels, and in the case of the SLC200 trim, a sports exhaust system. Likewise, the interior of these cars will also receive a modified instrument cluster that has a chequered flag design and AMG-branded floor mats. They’re not much in the grander scheme of things, but at least the option to get them is available.

Needless to say the pricing for the different trim levels of the SLC-Class RedArt Edition differ depending on which trim you get.
