With the launch of the new Mercedes A-Class, Mercedes-Benz is once again adding some special edition spice to the proceedings with the release of the A-Class Sedan Edition 1. The special edition version of the A-Class packs a lot of exclusive equipment in its tight body, all coming as standard to the model. It will also be compatible with all engines being offered for the A-Class as well. Mercedes only plans to sell the A-Class Sedan Edition 1 for around a year.

Like most Edition 1 models, the Mercedes A-Class Sedan Edition 1 is essentially a dressed-up version of a standard A-Class AMG Line with more features and tech at its disposal. It’s still an A-Class, though. It’s just a far prettier version than the standard lot.

From the outside, the A-Class Sedan Edition 1 exudes the aura that’s normally reserved for special edition models. I’m not going to bother to count how many pins are there, but there are a lot of them in the grille, and they’re all finished in copper.

The copper accents don’t end there, either. The A-Class Sedan Edition 1 sits on a set of 19-inch copper alloy wheels. The overall effect of the copper accents on the grille and wheels create a beautiful contrast with the sedan’s white body. “Edition” badging on the front fenders to further denote its special edition status, and on the technical side, the A-Class Sedan Edition 1 also has LED High-Performance headlights.

The dashboard, seats, and central armrest all have copper stitching. The door panels have copper seams. Even the velour floor mats come with copper piping. There’s also an “Edition” graphic on the passenger side dashboard, above the glove compartment. Care to venture a guess what the graphic’s color is? Reward yourselves if you answered “copper.”

Move beyond the feeling of getting drowned in copper accents, and you’ll see that the A-Class Sedan Edition 1 also comes with a multifunction, leather-wrapped steering wheel, sport seats with adjustable head restraints, and an oh-so-wonderful 64-color LED ambient lighting system that brings life to the interior of the sedan.

As expected, there are no powertrain upgrades on the Mercedes A-Class Sedan Edition 1. It still carries the same 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine that produces 188 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque. Depending on your preference, all that power and torque are sent to either the front wheels or to all four wheels through a dual-clutch, seven-speed automatic transmission.

That converts to around $8,000 based on current exchange rates. Mercedes hasn’t divulged plans to sell the A-Class Sedan Edition 1 in the U.S., but don’t expect it to happen anytime soon. The special edition A-Class looks to be a strictly European affair.
