German aftermarket company Lumma has come up with a build for another luxurious SUV. The company has given radical twists to many vehicles in the past, including multiple iterations of the Audi Q8. This time, it’s the Mercedes G-Class that goes under the knife.

The German firm is known to design really wild creations, pretty much like Mansory, but this one – according to Lumma’s reputation – is a rather subdued customization. The conversion kit comes with a custom body kit and huge wheels amongst other things.

What’s So Special About The Lumma G-Class?

Called the Lumma CLR G770 R, this creation started life as a boxy, luxurious Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The aftermarket company chose a black exterior shade for this SUV.

Up front, the SUV receives a redesigned bumper that features a front spoiler. The egg-crate grille features LED light strips that double up as daytime running lights. There are red inserts here and a Lumma logo is slapped in the center. The hood comes with a mighty big attachment and looks a little too much, but, it’s a Lumma build at the end of the day.

This SUV rides on hot 24-inch CLR 24 RS black wheels with red outlining. They are wrapped in 295/30 tires at the front and 355/25 low-profile, wide tires at the back.

To accommodate these huge wheels and tires, the aftermarket company was forced to make changes to the fenders as well. The new fenders add 1.38 inches to the width of the SUV on each side. A strip runs across the side profile with a red insert, thus complementing the overall black-and-red theme of this G-Class. Lumma has installed a roof trim with additional headlights.

Things at the rear are quite different, too. The rear bumper features a mesh design to make it stand out from the standard G-Class. A Lumma-branded spare wheel cover and rear roof spoiler are the other things offered on this build. You can choose to have these body components in carbon fiber by shelling out some extra moolah.

However, you can get the interior completely redone, right from the dash to the seats and carpeting. That said, all the standard G-Class treatment should continue to be offered as is.

Any Changes Under The Hood?

Lumma hasn’t made any changes to the drivetrain. Since the company is offerings kits and not selling the rebuilt car directly, you can get either the standard G-Class or the AMG version. Both offerings come with a 4.0-liter, V-8 Bi-turbo engine. In the case of the standard G-Class, the engine churns out 416 ponies and 450 pound-feet of torque. With the AMG treatment, the same mill makes 577 horses and 627 pound-feet of twist. Power is sent to all the wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox.

The company has made changes to the exhaust system, though. The one available for the G63 comes with two flap-controlled rear silencers with three black or three chrome-plated stainless steel tailpipes on each side. In the case of the non-AMG models, you can have two black tailpipes on the left and right on either side.

Final Thoughts

The Lumma CLR G770 R conversion kit starts at €12,700, which is approximately $14,900 as per current exchange rates. The pricing, honestly, isn’t too bad. To put it into perspective, it is roughly around 10-percent the price of a new G-Class. The standard model starts at $130,900, whereas the AMG G63 starts at $156,450.
