The Gronos comes with oodles of carbon fiber and performance enhancements that makes it as quick as a Porsche 911 Carrera 4S

If ‘Mansory’ was an actual word, it would be defined as ‘quirky, offbeat, and outlandish’. That is exactly what all the builds by the German tuner are. Despite that, it is one of the most prestigious tuners in the world today. Mansory has worked on numerous exotic models and has given it a twist that will make you rip your eyes out. Yet, we enthusiasts keep coming back for more. Some sorcery this is.

Anyway, the company has rolled out another rendition of its favorite vehicle, the Mercedes-AMG G63, called the Gronos 2021. This is the tuner’s second stint with the moniker, the first one coming in 2013. The Gronos 2021 is as eccentric, unorthodox, and freakish as you’d expect a Mansory to beat. But, it’s all forgiven because it makes a buttload of power more than the standard AMG G63.

What’s Different On The Outside?

The Gronos looks quite different when compared to the standard G63. For starters, it comes finished in British Racing Green color. Mansory says all the aerodynamic parts have been redesigned. Up front, the stock hood is ditched for an ultralight, full carbon hood that’s left unpainted. The horizontal-slat grille is new, too, and so are the LED headlights with daytime running lights. The new bumper boasts of additional air vents here to let the engine breathe comfortably.

The SUV comes with a wide-body kit that includes widened front wings, doors, and rear aprons. All these parts are made of full carbon.

There are a couple of lights on the roof as well. One would expect them to be auxiliary lights, but instead, they are the additional headlights themselves. The Gronos rides on massive 24-inch forged wheels finished in black. They are wrapped in 295/30 section high-performance, low-profile tires on all four corners. If this design doesn’t float your boat, Mansory has a huge catalog of wheel designs that you can choose from.

At the rear, things are comparatively subtler. The tailgate-mounted spare tire comes with a unique forged carbon cover. As mentioned earlier, the wide-body parts can be seen here with additional air vents. Mansory has been generous with the use of forged carbon and you can see them on other parts like the door handle inserts, indicator bases, air intakes and outlets, and mirror housings.

What’s New On The Inside?

Tuners, at this level, generally leave cabin customizations to the taste of the owners. Mansory offers the same, but has come up with some changes as part of the build. This includes the whole cabin being redone in a Fawn Brown-colored leather. The leather can be seen on the doors, dash, seats, pillars, and most of the other ‘touchable’ surfaces. The Gronos also comes with a leather-wrapped carbon sports steering wheel. The non-leather surfaces and components include an aluminum-sports pedal set and dark carbon inlays to contrast the leather.

Big Power Boost

In the standard form, the Mercedes-AMG G63 is no slouch. It comes with a 4.0-liter, bi-turbo engine that cranks out 577 horses and 627 pound-feet of torque. It is mated to a permanent all-wheel-drive system and a two-speed transfer case. Power is sent to the wheels via a nine-speed Speedshift automatic gearbox.

Mansory didn’t think it was enough and decided to plonk in larger turbochargers, new downpipes, and a new engine management system. This allowed the engine to churn out 850 ponies and 738 pound-feet of torque! It is paired to the same transmission. The Gronos takes 3.5 seconds to sprint to 62 mph from a standstill, which is one full second quicker than the stock model.

How Much Does It Cost?

There’s no word on the pricing of this build, but don’t expect it to be cheap. The 2021 Mercedes-AMG G63 is priced at $156,500 in the U.S., but this 2021 Mansory Gronos could cost you well over $300,000. Also, Mansory will make only 10 examples of the 2021 Gronos worldwide, thus making it a highly-exclusive model.
