Of course Mercedes saved the best for under the hood

AMG’s familiar 4.0-liter V-8 powers the GLE 63 S Coupe. It’s paired with a 48-Volt EQ Boost system. On its own, the engine is capable of pumping out a total of 603 horsepower (450 kW) and 627 pound-feet of torque (850 Nm.) The EQ Boost system, in short spurts, adds on an extra 21 horsepower (16 kW) and 184 pound-feet of torque (250 Nm.) So, at certain times, it can muster up more than 1,000 pound-feet of torque. It’s a little overkill for a big boxy SUV, but the sleeker design of the coupe makes the power output a little more feasible here. AMG claims the 60-mph sprint takes just 3.7 seconds, with top speed capped at 174 mph.

Under the metal, the GLE 63 S Coupe comes with standard air suspension, adaptive damping, and active roll stabilization, the latter of which is essential in a car that sits this high if you’re going to do some spirited driving. The other benefit of this technology is that the various driving modes will actually raise or lower your ride-height as needed.

As far as looks are concerned, the most identifiable feature is the Panamericana grille up front, but the revised lower fascia with black intakes also make it stand out. In the rear, you’ll find four exhaust outlets and a unique diffuser. The interior is dominated by Nappa leather just about everywhere and, where there’s not leather, you’ll probably find carbon fiber trim (the real stuff.) The GLE 63 S is equipped with an automatic transmission, but the center console includes a button for manual transmission control as well as controls for the stability control system and suspension system. Everything else in terms of tech carries over, but you’ll find the MBUX infotainment system features updated and model-specific graphics in comparison to lesser models.
