Carlex Design is renowned far and wide for its expertise in visual upgrades for all sorts of vehicles. Carlex has worked on different vehicle types, ranging from luxury SUVs like the Range Rover and Rolls-Royce Cullinan to performance machines like the Ferrari 488, McLaren 720S, and the current subject of our desire, the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro. Carlex even comes with appropriate names for its creation. This program for the mighty AMG is called the Tattoo Edition, and it’s an appropriate moniker given the surprises that await when you step inside the super coupe’s interior.

There once was a time when the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro stood as the king of its lineup. The AMG GT R Black Series has since supplanted the GT R Pro, but the latter still packs a mean punch, thanks to a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 engine that produces a stout 577 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Now, imagine if the GT R Pro had the looks to match that fiery output. Well, put those imaginations to bed because Carlex Design has a take on the AMG GT R Pro that’ll get your juices flowing. The tuner calls its creation the GT R Pro Tattoo Edition, and if the name isn’t clear at first glance, everything will make sense once you open the doors of the Merc supercar.

Before that, though, it’s important to mention the exterior upgrades to the AMG GT R Pro. There are only two of them, but they’re both significant. The first one is the fancy brushed bottle green vinyl wrap that looks positively menacing from all angles. Look closer, though, and you’ll notice that the wrap’s texture looks different, as if it has a bit of barrel aging to it. Either way, it’s a unique look that goes well with the AMG GT R Pro’s preponderance of aggressive aero panels, including the canards at the front corners, fender vents, large rear splitter, and the even larger rear wing. The other notable addition is the set of brushed silver alloy wheels. The tuner didn’t say what size those wheels are, but they look to be 20 inches in the front and 21 inches at the back.

Open the door and you’ll be welcomed into a world of leather and Alcantara that touches just about the entire surface area of the AMG GT R Pro’s cabin. Green leather dominates the dashboard, center armrest, and parts of the seats and doors. The rest is adorned in Alcantara, right down to the steering wheel. The real treat, though, is the intricate artwork that’s scattered throughout the cabin.

Are you a fan of skulls with wings, revolvers shaped like crossbones, and the occasional rose, all artistically created in the vein of the Guns N Roses logo? Well, you came to the right place. There are artistic details on the dashboard, doors, and seats of the AMG GT R Pro Tattoo Edition that properly identifies this Merc-AMG as a legitimate special edition model with a legitimate special edition name.

Note that the scope of the conversions revolves around the exterior and interior and nothing else. Fortunately, the AMG GT R Pro already packs a menacing bite even without the added juice. It’s powered by a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8 engine that produces 577 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. For some time, it stood as the range-topping version of the AMG GT lineup, at least until the 720-horsepower AMG GT R Black Series came along and took the throne for itself. Still, the AMG GT R Pro is as potent on the track as it is in brochures and catalogs. Give it a free runway and it can blitz its way to 60 mph from a standstill position in just 3.4 seconds. It can also do a quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds at 131 mph on its way to hitting a top speed of 198 mph.

Just because Carlex Design doesn’t have engine upgrades for the AMG GT R Pro Tattoo Edition, that doesn’t mean that it’s a sitting duck in drag races. It’s still a challenger in more ways than one.

Mercedes-AMG GT R PRO specifications

According to the Polish tuner’s website, the cost of turning your Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro into the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro Tattoo Edition is €58,000 net. That converts to around $70,300 based on current exchange rates.

Take note, too, that the price tag does not include the cost of the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro. The German performance coupe starts at $200,000. Be advised, though. Mercedes-AMG only built 750 units of the AMG GT R Pro and the model was released back in 2019. There’s no guarantee that you can still score a brand new model or even a used one. We did a search of used units of the AMG GT R Pro and came up with nothing. That’s a unicorn in the streets, folks.

Final Thoughts

If you’re a fan of the Affliction t-shirts and Ed Hardy merchandise that were so popular back in the late 2000s and early 2010s, Carlex Design’s Tattoo Edition conversion for the Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro will speak to your style and sensibilities. Not all of us are fans of the flying skulls and cross-bone revolvers, but we do appreciate art, especially one that speaks to different hearts and minds. The green vinyl wrap, though, is a different story. That’s a thing of beauty, especially when you see it up close. It’s far from what you’d expect a Mercedes-AMG GT R Pro to wear, let alone any other supercar, but it works in so many ways, not the least of which is to add a layer of meanness to what is already a menacing-looking performance coupe from Mercedes-AMG.
