2023 Mercedes-AMG G63

Changes should be minimal, but they will keep the G63 AMG fresh

The second generation G-Class was launched in 2018. If we were to look back at the first generation which was produced between 1990 and 2018, we do not expect the current G-Class to be retired anytime soon. It is, however, on the point to receive a facelift version.

Back in January, our spy photographers caught the first prototype of the standard G-Class out for some testing, and earlier this month, we even caught the G4×4². Today, it is time for the AMG version to shine under the spotlight.

What will be different on the exterior and the interior?

Changes on the facelift G63 AMG will be minimal, and will mostly be about keeping the car fresh and in line with the current technology. As you can see on these spy shots, only the front and the rear are camouflaged, meaning that most changes will focus on these areas.

First of all, there will be a revised front end, with an updated bumper and grille. Surprisingly, this prototype wears the same headlights as the current G63, meaning that Mercedes engineers aren’t exactly done with the development process quite yet. The same treatment will be applied in the back, where all we can see for now is a revised bumper. Taillights are also the same as on the current model.

Most of the changes will be made on the interior - as also revealed by the previous prototypes. Next to the new steering wheel, it is expected that the next G63 AMG might finally offer the MBUX system.

Will there be any changes under the hood?

Most likely not. So, you should expect the 2023 G63 AMG to be powered by the same 4.0-liter, Biturbo V-8 engine that delivers 577 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. Also, do not expect any sign of hybridization any time soon, but you should remember that Mercedes is working on an electric G-Class. Our first glimpse of that model was offered by the EQG Concept.

When should you expect the facelift Mercedes-AMG G63?

The facelift G63 AMG, alongside the standard G-Class, should be revealed by the end of 2022 and should go on sale as 2023 model year SUVs.
