The racecars headlining Australia’s V8 Supercar Series are starting to take shape and over the weekend we saw another one of the cars get its own public unveiling.
Erebus Motorsport took the time to present their prized racer for the series: the E63 AMG V8 Supercars Racecar.
The car itself holds a historical component to it because, as a racecar built in Australia, it’s the first time that an AMG racer was manufactured outside of Germany. Erebus Motorsports is bringing three unique models of the E63 AMG V8 Supercar Series to the racing season, each coming with a unique livery. Of note though is the overall look of the racecars, all three of which are pretty impressive in their own right.
Mechanically, the E63 AMG V8 Supercar Racecar has to subject itself to "Car of the Future" regulations, which means that engine displacement should not exceed 5 liters, rpm are limited between 7,000 and 7,500, and most importantly, horsepower shouldn’t go past 650 ponies.
In the case of the E63 AMG V8 Supercar Series, the team had to "make do" with a modified version of the V8 engine on the SLS AMG. Considering that the standard SLS powertrain includes a 6.3-liter V8, it likely took a significant amount of tweaking just to keep in line with the series regulations.
Expect the Mercedes E63 AMG V8 Supercar Racecars to compete with the likes of the Holden Commodore V8 and the Nissan Altima V8 when Australia’s V8 Supercar Series kicks off next month.
The second installment of the unique duo unveiled by Mercedes at the 2010 Australian International Motor Show is the very special Concept 358. Following along the same lines as the Mercedes SLS AMG Night Black, this C 63 AMG is painted in another one-of-a-kind exterior paint job: designo Pearl Orange. It also carries with it the AMG Performance Package Plus found in the Night Black.
This package will increase the engine’s output to a staggering 479 HP, which is where the name comes from. The concept also gets unique 19-inch multi spoke alloy wheels in black, KEYLESS-GO, and extended designo leather appointments in the interior.
"The unique C 63 AMG on display also unveils the AMG Performance Package Plus which Australian customers can now order from their local dealer in both Saloon and Estate," said Managing Director of Mercedes-Benz Cars Australia, Mr Horst von Sanden. "Each Mercedes-Benz vehicle is special, but for this year’s motor show we wanted to go that next step and bring two world exclusives to show the Australian public."
Mercedes was prepared to take two unique vehicles to the 2010 Australian International Motor Show and they have delivered the first one in the form of a special SLS AMG. Among the added features of the vehicle, the most notable is the designo magno Night Black exterior paint job that makes this SLS AMG the first and only (so far) to carry it. Add the red highlights and this car is sure to attract some serious attention.
There aren’t tons of modifications made to the car, but what they have done is enough to show the Australian public what a fantastic car this is. Alongside the unique exterior paint, Mercedes has added its Performance Package Plus which will now be available to every mate down under for the first time since its debut. The package consists of the red AMG branded brake calipers adding to the color scheme of the vehicle and a subtle carbon fiber spoiler, as well as a little engine modification. Merc doesn’t say to what the power found in the car is boosted to, but we can imagine it to be about 30hp more than the standard 571hp.
"Australia is one of our favorite markets," said Mario Spitzner, Director Branding, Marketing & Sales Mercedes-AMG. "We were asked to create two unique AMG vehicles for the Australian International Motor Show. I hope you enjoy them as much as we did building them," said Spitzner.
The Australian market has just received a special edition of the Mercedes Benz C63 AMG. Although it may look like the standard offering from the outside, officials claim that it is far from ordinary. Now the C63 is an incredible vehicle in showroom trim, with its boxed fenders and hand built power plant in between the redesigned strut towers, however this limited run of only 63 units adds a little bit more mechanicals into the mix as well as a dash of high end styling.
The Mercedes C63 AMG Edition 63 is powered by the same 6.2 liter V8 engine developing a maximum output of 450 HP and 442 lb-ft of torque which allows the baby Benz to accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in just 4.5 seconds, an impressive feat for any four door sedan. However that is where the similarities end.
The Edition 63 C63 is easily recognized by a pair of matching black stripes left by the soft rubber wrapped around the new 19 inch AMG multi-spoke light weight alloy wheels whenever the gas pedal is put all the way to the floor. Thanks to the new AMG rear locking differential one tire fires and peg legged burn outs will be a thing of the past. The special edition comes with a choice of two designo metallic paint colors that are exclusive to this model as well as the option of designo magno matte paint in allanite grey, illuminated door sills and some high class comfort features.
In the wake of the sales success of the Super Sport Edition C 180 Kompressor sedan (announced earlier this year) comes two matching stable mates. The C 180 Kompressor Sports Coupé and the C 200 Kompressor Estate are now available with the value-rich Super Sport Edition package. Like their sedan sibling, however, numbers for these two feature-enhanced models are strictly limited.
