Mercedes Benz Vision EQXX Teased With 620 Miles of Range

Mercedes has some exciting news for us from their EV Strategy Update Event

Daimler is in pursuit to develop world’s most energy-efficient electric car. The Mercedes Benz EQXX is expected to travel 6.2 miles on a single kWh of charge, beating the current-best Lucid Air’s efficiency by over a mile. Their Mercedes Benz Formula 1 team, among others, has provided assistance in the development of their new flagship.

The German automaker gave us a taste of how they want to transition to electric, during the strategy day event for investors on October 6, last year. That transition strategy now has an update, along with a more in-depth look at the future and the much-hyped long-range flagship EQXX.

This Epic Render of a Modernized Mercedes 300 SL Will Become Reality

This Epic Render of a Modernized Mercedes 300 SL Will Become Reality

This super-modern take on the legendary Mercedes 300 SL will soon become a reality.

It’s safe to say the Mercedes 300 SL is the epitome of a timeless swagger. Its unique styling is instantly recognizable by many and the car itself is as technologically advanced (for its time) as it is gorgeous to look at. The car originally came out in 1953 and, in roadster form, was produced until 1963. Although the 300 SLR inspired SLR Stirling Moss and the SLS AMG can be considered spiritual successors, an independent designer shows us what the 300 SL would look like nowadays. Moreover, the renderings we see here will be turned into reality.

The 1966 Mercedes-Benz SLX Is The AMG One's Long Lost Relative

The 1966 Mercedes-Benz SLX Is The AMG One’s Long Lost Relative

A mid-’60s design study was denied a chance at living its life as a Ferrari beater

We’re in the mid-’60s when the trends amongst sportscar makers pointed towards a transition to the rear, mid-mounted layout. Lamborghini showed everyone the way in 1966 with the Miura but others had already dabbled with the idea, including small-time Italian company ATS. Others, including Ferrari, were already racing mid-engined race cars and Ford joined in on the fun with 1964’s GT40. As history tells us, Mercedes-Benz wanted a seat at the table to kick back and relax away from the serious business of producing the world’s best luxury sedans.

Is This Impressive Rendering A Look Into The Future of Mercedes?

Is This Impressive Rendering A Look Into The Future of Mercedes?

The year is 2035 and Mercedes-Benz is selling this: do you buy one?

If the car industry has learned us anything so far it’s that carmakers like to play with concept vehicles but they’re also part work. More often than not, a concept car has led a car brand’s direction and approach for the years to come and we’re not only talking about design cues and whatnot, but also that brand’s vision of mobility.

In that context, we can’t ignore two of Mercedes-Benz’s most stunning concepts, the 2015 F 015 prototype and the more recent Vision AVTR, unveiled at the 2020 CES in Las Vegas. Both are about luxury first and foremost but also about a new avenue that might spur other carmakers to join the bandwagon: a reinterpreted interaction between human, machine, and nature.

Then we stumbled onto this unofficial design study, dubbed the Mercedes-Benz Vision Duet Concept.

2020 Mercedes Vision AVTR - A Look Into the Impossible Future

2020 Mercedes Vision AVTR - A Look Into the Impossible Future

Inspired by the Avatar movie, packed with futuristic technology

The Mercedes-Benz Vision AVTR is a futuristic concept car that explores new design options and technologies, as well as the "vision of designers, engineers, and trend researches for mobility in the distant future." The AVTR name stands for Advanced Vehicle Transformation, but it also represents the company’s collaboration with the team that produced Avatar, a science fiction film directed and produced by James Cameron and released in 2009. While previous Vision concepts from Mercedes-Benz were also futuristic, they still featured technologies and styling cues linked to production cars, while some of the design actually made it on vehicles you can buy in dealerships. The Vision AVTR is an entirely different story as its features and technologies won’t be transferred to production cars in the near future.

2019 Mercedes-Benz Vision Simplex Concept

2019 Mercedes-Benz Vision Simplex Concept

Mercedes’ first modern car returns as a sleek concept after 118 years

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz Vision Simplex is a concept car that the German company introduced at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show. The show car pays homage to the iconic Mercedes 35 HP race car from 1901, an automobile that previewed the Mercedes Simplex, a production road car the German firm built from 1902 to 1909. A retro-inspired two-seater, the Vision Simplex brings the 35 HP into the future through a sleeker look, modern technology, and state-of-the-art craftsmanship.

The Vision Simplex joins a long list of Vision-branded concept cars that started with the Vision SLA in 2000 and includes the AMG Vision Gran Turismo coined in 2013. The Vision Simplex follows the Vision Van of 2016 and the Vision EQS of 2019, the latter being a preview of an all-electric S-Class sedan. Will the Vision Simplex spawn a production model? Definitely not, but it’s one of the coolest concepts around. Let’s have a closer look.

2019 Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS

2019 Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS

Sometimes it feels like there are more futuristic concepts floating around that there are modern cars on the road. While that may not really be the case, there certainly isn’t a deficit of concepts that represent what automakers see in their future. Not all of them are crazy, though, and that’s exactly what brings me to the concept we’re talking about today: The Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS. This specific concept is actually, in at least some way, shape, or form, representative of a future electric model equivalent to the S-Class Saloon. If the production version of the EQS follows the same suit as the new EQC SUV, then it won’t look a whole lot like this concept, but that’s a story for a different time. For now, let’s take a closer look at the Mercedes Vision EQS and see what Mercedes expects out of the full-size electric saloon of the future.

Does the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS Really Represent the Future of Mercedes Electric Mobility?

Does the Mercedes-Benz Vision EQS Really Represent the Future of Mercedes Electric Mobility?

I like Mercedes’ idea of a future electric S-Class

Mercedes has just introduced the Vision EQS Concept and, given the EQS designation, we believe that this concept will end up moving into production as part of Merc’s EQ line of electric vehicles. This concept, ladies and gentleman, essentially represents the electric S-Class of the future. All of the prerequisites are there from the long wheelbase to the sporty nature and class-leading luxury. This concept is loaded to the gills with new technology, semi-autonomous driving capability, and a cabin that’s worth of the S-Class name. Does it all seem a little futuristic to you? Well, it should, but the truth is that this car probably isn’t that far off from production. With that in mind, you’ll be happy to hear that it’s still meant to be a driver’s car too. Here’s what you need to know.

2019 Mercedes-Benz Concept GLB

2019 Mercedes-Benz Concept GLB

Merc’s baby G-Class is almost as big as the GLC

The Mercedes-Benz Concept GLB is a concept vehicle that previews a new crossover from the German company. As the name suggests, the GLB is the SUV equivalent of the B-Class compact; thus the production model will slot between the existing GLA and GLC, corresponding to the A-Class and C-Class, respectively. The concept vehicle was unveiled at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show in near-production-ready form.

Notably larger than the GLA, the Concept GLB is actually almost as big as the GLC. But the crossover stands out through its boxy design cues. Although it’s not the baby G-Class it was rumored at first, it’s notably boxier than the coupe-styled GLA, and it also feels more utilitarian than the GLC. The concept features a production-ready design, it’s equipped with technology already available in Mercedes-Benz vehicles, and comes with a production four-cylinder engine under the hood. Let’s find out more about it in the review below.

2018 Mercedes EQ Silver Arrow

2018 Mercedes EQ Silver Arrow

This stunner is a concept that has our senses going haywire

Mercedes has unveiled the Vision EQ Silver Arrows Concept, and it is a stunner. The concept is a feast for the senses, a product of Mercedes’ masterful use of its own heritage and reinventing it with a futuristic electric-jolted twist. As it is, the EQ Silver Arrow is a showcase concept — and what a concept, it is — that we’ll never see in production form. The good news is that the concept isn’t just a muscle-flexing design exercise, too. Parts of the concept will appear in Mercedes’ new electric brand offshoot, EQ. As to what those parts are? We’ll just have to wait and find out.
