The 2021 Mercedes-Maybach GLS is the range-topping version of the third-generation SUV, launched in 2019 for the 2020 model year. It’s the second Maybach SUV ever built after the 2018 G650 Landaulet, but the first one that’s not a limited-edition vehicle. Inspired by the Maybach S-Class,, the 2021 Maybach GLS is a fancied up GLS with extra luxury features, exclusive appointments, and a unique drivetrain. Performance-wise, it slots between the GLS 580 and the AMG GLS 63 S., And just like the rest of the lineup, its gasoline engine works in conjunction with a 48-volt EQ Boost system. Here’s a good look at Mercedes fastest mid-size SUV

It was only a matter of time before Mercedes’ AMG division had its way with the Mercedes GLE SUV, and that day has come. Unveiled at the 2019 Los Angles Auto Show, the Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S comes complete with a Panamerican-style grille, massive corner intakes, and the typical AMG exhaust outlets and diffuser. The interior is as luxurious as it gets in this segment and comes complete with plenty of AMG-specific styling cues like the infotainment system graphics, interior badges, and race-inspired, flat-bottom steering wheel.

Under the hood lurks the same 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V-8 found in the larger Mercedes-AMG GLS 63, and it even delivers the same 602 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. It also has that EQ Boost starter-generator that pumps out 21 extra horses and 184 extra pound-feet of torque. The 4Matic AWD system can distribute torque between the axles as needed, so much so that it can even send 100-percent of the engine’s power to the rear wheels.

The good news here, however, is that the GLE 63 is smaller, so it’s actually quicker in the 60-mph sprint than its bigger brother. While the GLS 63 S does the sprint in 4.1 seconds, the GLE 63 S will get you to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds – supercar speeds not that long ago. Mercedes refreshed its flagship sports car by adding more to an already impressive package

The AMG GT represents everything that’s right about a Grand Touring car. It has a luscious body with that classic long hood that houses a high-performance engine, namely the 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-8, the widened hips, the low roofline coupled with a generous windshield and the rounded, cheeky-looking, tail end. It’s good for a day at the Nurburgring-Nordschleife in the same way it could cope with miles upon miles behind trucks on the Autobahn or stranded at a stop light in downtown Berlin. Believe it or not, it’s been four years since Mercedes-Benz unveiled the AMG GT. Now, the front-engined two-door sports car that replaced the gull-winged SLS received another restyle and was brought to the L.A. Auto Show. In the news are the AMG Dynamics integrated driving control systems, the exterior changes meant to bring the 2-door models closer in appearance to the AMG GT 4-door Coupe and a revitalized interior.

For 2020, Mercedes-Benz will offer the familiar AMG GT and GT S Coupe models, the AMG GT Convertible, the AMG GT R and, finally, the new AMG GT R PRO, a track-focused beast that’s among the five fastest road-legal cars to ever lap the Nurburgring-Nordschleife.

A more track-focused GT R

The Mercedes-AMG GT R is the range-topping version of the AMG GT, a coupe introduced in 2014. The GT R arrived in 2017 with a more aggressive design, a beefed-up engine, and increased performance. It’s the most powerful and expensive version of the coupe yet. At the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show, Mercedes introduced a track-ready upgrade, called the AMG GT R Pro. Fitted with body parts and drivetrain components inspired by motorsport, the Pro bridges the gap between the road-legal AMG GT R and the race-spec GT3 and GT4 iterations of the sports car. It’s not more powerful than the GT R, but it features upgraded chassis and suspension components, it’s lighter, and a bit more aerodynamic. It’s a worthy rival for the Porsche 911 GT3 RS!

As far as I’m concerned the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe is about as controversial as it gets. I consider it to be one of the laziest efforts from Mercedes to date. I mean, come on, It’s basically a CLS – it even looks like it, and some of the powertrains are even the same. Case in point – the AMG GT 53. Under the hood, you’ll find the same exact powertrain that you find under the hood of the CLS53. Be that as it may, we stumbled across the GT53 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, and it sure did look really nice – even if it is just a CLS – in its fine red color. And, to top it off, it is rocking some rather strange, out-of-place, old-school wheels. That’s right – the AMG GT 53 showed up to L.A. wearing a nice red dress and a new pair of shoes.

All three models now feature a number of design cues meant to bring the AMG GT family together stylistically as well as from a technological standpoint since a number of systems are now standard across the range which includes the AMG GT 4-door luxury sport sedan that was presented back in March at the Geneva Auto Show.

There’s a new GT-R Pro Model Too

The Mercedes-AMG GT sports car was just updated for 2017, but Mercedes saw fit to give it some fresh DNA from the 4-Door Coupe for 2020. It now features headlights based on those of the 4-Door, and the front and rear fascias have been mildly updated. The biggest news here is that the 10.25-inch infotainment screen now comes as standard equipment as does the AMG Track Pace system that debuted in the 4-Door Coupe as well. There are no powertrain upgrades to speak of, though, so the base model still delivers 469 horsepower while the GT C pumps out 550 horsepower. The GT R carries on with 577 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.

The third-generation coupe comes forward with unique styling and EQ Boost

Introduced in 2003, the Mercedes-Benz CLS created a new vehicle segment that combined the dynamic design of a coupe with the comfort and functionality of a luxury sedan. Come 2017, and the four-door coupe moved into its third-generation with updated styling, a revised interior with brand-new tech, and a completely new engine under the hood. The new-generation CLS replaces the W218 model that’s been in production since 2011. It was launched at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show and will go on sale in 2018.

The new model has pure CLS genes with its arching waistline, flat side window lines, and low greenhouse. It also retains its unique design, despite being based on the same underpinnings as the E-Class sedan. Though not as unique on the inside, the CLS blends the styling cues of the E-Class and S-Class with new features and exclusive technology. Under the hood, it comes with a new six-cylinder engine that uses EQ Boost, an electric motor that increases performance while returning better fuel economy. The Doors to the Los Angeles Auto Show are Propped open, and all the Worlds Most Important Car Makers are in Attendance. Among the crowd of new and revised cars sits the 2019 Mercedes CLS, a car that features an updated exterior design, fresh interior, and there’s even a new inline-six to deliver a decent 362 horsepower. For the first time in the car’s history, the four-door sedan or (“four-door coupe” as Merc likes to call it) now offers seating for five thanks to a bench seat in the rear, something previously only available on the shooting-brake.

New Mercedes CLS Leaked Ahead of L.A. Debut

Exterior and interior design revealed!

The 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show is almost up on us with a heap of new production cars and concept vehicles. And as it usually happens, a few models are surfacing the Web earlier than planned via leaked photos. The next-generation Mercedes-Benz CLS is one of them, with four early pictures showing the four-door coupe’s design inside and out. Details as to what lurks under the hood or the technology we may find inside the cabin aren’t yet available, but we can now take a good look at its styling. And needless to say, it’s just as I expected it to be.

The new CLS is actually almost identical to our renderings, at least when it comes to the front fascia, anyway. Sure, the car in the photos doesn’t feature the "Panamericana" grille that we used in our rendering (it should be offered as an option though), but the headlamps and the bumper are exactly as we envisioned them. The headlamps are more angular than the usual Mercedes unit and extend toward the front fender wheel arches. The grille is as large as the one seen on the AMG GT sports car, while the three-piece bumper vent has horizontal slats on the sides and a honeycomb grille in the middle.

The car’s profile brings together cues from the previous CLS and the current S-Class. While the sexy, arched beltline of the old CLS is still there, it’s not as pronounced on the new car. This gives the four-door a bit more elegance while keeping it sportier than the full-size sedan. The rear section is again similar to our rendering, but you need to keep in mind that our version is actually an AMG, so ignore the decklid spoiler and the more aggressive diffuser. We did mess up the taillights a bit, as the actual units aren’t as angular toward the fenders, but the shape is there. And needless to say, the CLS sports unique taillights.

Maybach rolls out its first convertible since the 1930s

Revived by Mercedes-Benz in 1997 after more than five decades since it stopped building automobiles, the Maybach brand and its modern limousines, the 57 and 62, were received with great enthusiasm. However, both cars were seen as slightly fancied-up versions of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class as soon as they hit the market and the company’s sales expectations were never met. When it was shut down in 2012, Maybach has only sold around 3,000 units. By comparison, Rolls-Royce sold more than 2,700 vehicles in 2010. The luxury brand was once again revived in 2015, but this time around as Mercedes-Maybach and as a sub-brand of the S-Class model. Two four-door models were launched immediately, following by sleek looking concept coupe. Although the latter has yet to be confirmed for production as of December 2016, Mercedes did launch a convertible version based on the S-Class. It’s called the Mercedes-Maybach S650 and its the first Maybach drop-top since the 1930s.

Although based on the standard S-Class inside and out, the Maybach S650 is actually pretty unique in the lineup. Its body features are heavily based on the AMG S65 model, thus having a sportier appearance, while the interior comes with bespoke leather upholstery and numerous accessories. Under the hood, the convertible is more than just a standard S-Class, using the most powerful engine available for the nameplate at this point. This makes the S650 the quickest and most powerful Maybach ever built.

The luxury convertible is also available in very limited numbers, with just 300 units to be built and sold globally. Naturally, these specs also make it highly expensive, to the point where a Maybach could cost more than its Rolls-Royce competitor. Find out more about it in my comprehensive review below.

Spoil Yourselves Silly With The Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet

Limited edition Maybach-AMG creation is numbered to just 300 models

When Mercedes officially revived the Maybach brand in 2015, it had a clear idea of what it wanted the brand to project. Sure, it was already associated with the top-quality luxury, but Mercedes also wanted to blend all that opulence with the kind of power and performance that’s more linked to its AMG division. All of that brings us to this high-rolling cabriolet that’s part Maybach, part AMG. It’s called the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet, and it’s a legitimate boss on four wheels.

It’s a different use of the word “hybrid” but Mercedes was able to accomplish this marriage by using a soft-top Mercedes-AMG S 65 and then bombarding its cabin with the finest materials and special finishes it has to offer. The result is a car that showcases the luxury refinement of Maybach with the performance credentials of AMG.

It’s worth noting too that Mercedes didn’t even have to extend the base AMG S 65 past its usual length to accommodate the extended nature of its Maybach models. The Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet retains the same wheelbase as the model with it’s based on, not to mention having that other important element of the AMG S 65: the 6.0-liter bi-turbo V-12 engine that produces 621 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque. That’s enough to power to help the cabriolet sprint from 0 to 60 mph in four seconds to go with an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph.

At the very least, those numbers help complement the litany of luxury upgrades given to the car’s interior. Without jumping to the specifics, the Mercedes-Maybach S650 Cabriolet comes with a leather-covered cabin with outer diamond quitting on the seat side bolsters. There’s also element of bespoke trim scattered throughout the cabin, most notably on the door panels and instrument panel. And, let’s not forget the color-coordinated luggage set. Nothing spells out exclusivity more than having extra luggages to go with the actual car.

All of this adds up to one of the most exclusive models Mercedes will be offering under the reintroduced Maybach line. Only 300 units will be made available with each model being given a specific number among the 300 models. High-rollers, anyone?
