The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren was, if you wish, an example of fusion (car) food done right. A stint between Mercedes-Benz and McLaren, the SLR had one paramount task - two, in fact.
On one hand, it had to pay proper respect to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR, while on the other, it had to generate F1 race car-level thrills on public road even for the noob driver. For that, it packed a 617-horsepower supercharged V-8 and an all-carbon fiber chassis, among other delicacies.
The F1-Powered Hybrid AMG One Hypercar Is Still Happening, But Not Until 2021
When Mercedes-AMG unveiled the Project One in 2017, the automaker promised that the hypercar would find its way to customer’s by 2019. That initial promise has come and gone, in part, because the costs and time that comes with the development of the Project One proved too much even for Mercedes-AMG. But Mercedes’ performance brand remains undaunted, and it is now confident that deliveries of the One — that’s it’s official name now — will begin sometime in 2021. Mercedes still intends to build 275 units of the One, each priced at €2.275 million. That converts to $2.5 million based on current exchange rates.

Mercedes-Benz just released a video about Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton visiting its design center and the footage includes a teaser for the next-generation Mercedes-AMG GT sports car. The video shows Hamilton and members of the Mercedes-Benz team checking out a clay model of a sporty coupe, and it might just be a scale prototype of the second-gen GT.

Now, the five-time Formula One world champion wants to create a special edition version of the Mercedes-AMG ONE, the all-conquering hypercar formerly known as the Project One. Speaking to Top Gear, Hamilton confirmed his desire to build a custom version of the One hypercar to Mercedes-AMG. Whether he gets his wish remains to be seen, but AMG is apparently considering it. If it happens, Hamilton would be heavily involved in the development of the car that will use his “LH” initials. He’s not just settling for fancy badges and new colors, either. Hamilton wants wholesale changes to the body, engine, and exhaust system of the ONE, thereby making it a true “special edition” in every sense of the phrase.
