2019 Mini Cooper Oxford Edition

This Is The Mini You Should Go After

Mini just introduced the Cooper Oxford Edition. It is a special edition Cooper intended for full- or part-time students, postgraduates or those who graduated in the past year. Albeit being the cheapest Cooper on offer right now, the car actually packs more gear than the entry-level Cooper Classic. Small fun hatch is available in three-door and in five-door form with the prices starting at $19,750 (destination charge excluded). The five-door is a $1,000 more expensive.

MINI Special Edition Gets a Not-So-Mini Name

You can call me ’MINI John Cooper Works Hardtop International Orange Edition’

Wish it was as simple as saying, "Bond, James Bond," but MINI planned to give a long name to its car, and also price it exorbitantly high. The special edition car is based on the JCW Hardtop, and it comes with a bright orange shade, which is described as a “bold color historically used to make great feats of engineering and aerospace design stand out.” It is set to debut on July 14th at the MINI Takes The States rally.

2017 Mini Cooper 1499 GT

2017 Mini Cooper 1499 GT

A tribute piece for an iconic Mini worth paying tribute to

It’s a funny thing what a special edition car can do to polish an automaker’s shine. Nobody knows this better than Mini, which has created its fair share of special edition models, including one that it had just announced for the French market: the Mini Blackfriars Edition. Now, it’s doubling down on the SE goodness with yet another offering called the Mini 1499 GT.

In essence, the 1499 GT is not a special edition model that was concocted out of someone’s imagination, but rather, a tribute piece to one of the most iconic Minis to have hit the pavement: the 1971 1275 GT. Most of the functioning 1275 GTs have probably been lost in the sands of time and rust, but the 1499 GT is now here to breathe some life back to the legacy of the legendary hatchback. Between exterior features that pay homage to the classic Mini to suspension tweaks that ensure that it can perform as well as advertised, the new Mini 1499 GT is a stunning example of the best of what Mini can come up. The only downside is that only 1,499 units of the car will be made, and worse, all units will be sold exclusively in the UK market. It’s a bummer, sure, but don’t let dampen your spirits. It’s rare enough to see a special edition tribute car that properly pays homage to the car it’s supposed to be tipping its hats to. It’s even rarer to see one that takes the inspiration to a level that makes people actually reminisce about the classic. The 1499 GT does that, and then some.

2017 Mini Cooper Blackfriars Edition

Yet another special edition model from a company that never seems to run out of them

Mini’s pantry of special edition models is stock full of unique creations, adding weight to the thought that the German automaker is no stranger to this fancy exclusives. Even with an inventory that’s bursting at the seams, special edition work soldiers on for Mini with the presentation of its latest creation, the Cooper Blackfriars Edition.

Taking inspiration from the Blackfriar’s section of London where the order of Dominican monks who carry the same name reside, this unique Cooper hatchback is defined by its subdued yet effective upgrades. There’s plenty of black to go around too, a nod to the traditional black robes worn by the Blackfriar’s monks. Inspired color motifs aside, the special edition Cooper also features plenty of unique details in its exterior and interior, not to mention the references to the Blackfriars from where it got its name. It’s not the flashiest special edition Mini Cooper we’ve seen, and it may not even be the most appealing one, but it does stick to the identity of the institution that it takes inspiration from. That’s more than what we can say for other special edition vehicles that lack the connection to what they’re supposed to be celebrating or at least shining a light on.

2016 Mini John Cooper Works Challenge

2016 Mini John Cooper Works Challenge

The brawny JCW goes racing with chassis updates and unique exterior

The third-generation Mini Cooper was launched in late 2013 with a redesigned exterior, revised interior, and new four- and three-cylinder engines. Significantly larger than its predecessor, the new Mini arrived with improved roominess and practicality, enhanced fuel economy, and more options than ever before. Much like the second-generation model, the three-door hatchback was followed by a two-door convertible, the Clubman wagon, Countryman crossover, and the Paceman coupe. For the first time, the hatchback was also offered in a five-door configuration. The three-door Hatch, Convertible, Countryman, and Paceman models also received a performance-oriented John Cooper Works version.

Come 2016 and Mini is enhancing the Cooper lineup with a limited-edition model based on the John Cooper Works hatchback model. Dubbed JCW Challenge, it is described as a "genuinely credible trackday machine" and comes with quite an interesting development story. According to Mini, it was designed by a small group of employees that "had a dream to create a Mini to excel on a racing circuit, while maintaining perfectly usable manners on the public road."

The idea was reportedly developed outside the daily work schedule, before being extensively tested on a range of race tracks throughout the United Kingdom. The hatch received a handful of unique features inside and out and will make its public debut at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed on June 23. Let’s have a closer look at the brand’s new track-oriented model below.

2017 Mini Seven

2017 Mini Seven

Mini launches a new special edition to pay homage to the original Seven

Mini’s history runs all the way back to 1959 when British Motor Corporation released the Morris Mini-Minor and the Austin Seven – two nearly identical models that offered “an unusually generous amount of space for passengers and luggage within a minimum surface area.” The current generation of the Mini Cooper and Cooper S is said to embody the latest version of this principal, so Mini has decided to announce a new special edition model that it believes can pay homage back to the days when the Austin Seven came to be. The special edition is offered on two- and four-door variants of the Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S, but don’t get too excited yet because there isn’t a whole lot to talk about.

In Short, the Mini Seven is nothing more than a Cooper or Cooper S with a small selection of unique exterior colors, some new trim, and of course the old “Seven” name. That’s it. Mini isn’t offering any extra power, technology, or any weight savings. Be that as it may, we’ve decided to take a closer look at the Mini Seven anyway. So, grab yourself a soda, and take a little journey down the page with us as we discuss the Mini Seven and the little things it brings to the table.

2015 Mini Cooper Sport Pack

2015 Mini Cooper Sport Pack

When BMW took over production of the Mini in the year 2000, it started churning out a long list of special editions and new conceptualizations of the iconic British compact. Over the years, there have been several Mini iterations, some with additional doors, some with no roof, and most with an increase in size and weight. However, no matter the model, they are all both sporty and nimble.

That tradition continues with the introduction of the Mini Sport Pack. Now, buyers of any three-door or five-door hatch are offered this optional equipment package, which comes with new exterior features, interior improvements, and suspension upgrades.

Mini says these new accessories can add up to 25 percent to residual resale value, which should entice buyers into more liberal use of the option list when considering the purchase of a new Mini Cooper.

But is it worth the extra outlay? Hit the jump to find out.

2014 Mini Cooper "DeLux"

2014 Mini Cooper "DeLux"

Not to toot our own horn, but we did call this, didn’t we? Mini has officially announced the winner of the "MINI Originals” design contest and like we predicted, that Tron-looking Cooper, dubbed "DeLux" by creator Alex Coyle, was announced as the winner of the competition.

The blacklight-influenced Mini Cooper beat out some worthy challengers, but in the end, none were as popular to the Mini community as Coyle’s design, whose name he explained came from the word "lux," the "root meaning of the word ’light’".

As the winner of the contest, the young sophomore student studying creative advertising and photography at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA will now have the distinction of seeing his creation come to life in the form of a limited run of Coopers carrying the ’DeLux" package.

Anybody interested in it can now place orders on MINIUSA.com and through MINI dealerships across the country. Be warned, though, Mini has indicated that there will only be up to 56 models of Coyle’s DeLux package so if you’re pining for one, better place an order before the units run out.

In the meantime, the DeLux Cooper will be in attendance at the New York Auto Show next week so that’s also a good a time as any to have an up-close look at this very unique Cooper.

2014 Mini Paceman GoalCooper

2014 Mini Paceman GoalCooper

With a little more than two months left until the 2014 FIFA World Cup kicks off in Brazil, the folks over at Mini are gearing up for the big sporting event — or should we say April Fools’ Day? — with the Paceman GoalCooper special edition.

Based on the John Cooper Works Paceman, the GoalCooper pays tribute to Brazil’s national soccer team by wearing a body wrap that combines the green, blue and yellow colors adorning the aforementioned country’s flag.

Inside, the football (err, soccer)-related theme continues with Astro Turf floor mats in a color the company calls Brasileiro Green, a similar mat to cover the entire cargo space when the rear seats are folded and a miniature table football set mounted on the center rail.

Additionally, a "floodlight" LED interior lighting package, a net attached behind the front seats and universal holder for smartphones give the GoalCooper "a stadium like feel" that fervent soccer fans are likely to enjoy.

2014 Mini Countryman and Paceman Frozen Black Limited Edition

2014 Mini Countryman and Paceman Frozen Black Limited Edition

Mini decided to add some flavor to the Countryman and Paceman lineup and added a new Frozen Black metallic paint offered in a limited edition for the top models in the lineup. The new paint features a textured, shimmering matte finish and offers the Mini model a more expressive appearance.

Applying the new Frozen Black finish requires a special procedure, and Mini applies it in three layers: special surface treatment, color, then a clear lacquer finish. For the attached exterior parts, like the front and rear aprons and the exterior mirror caps the new Frozen Black metallic paint is applied separately.

This new paint is completely weather resistant and car wash resistant, but Mini advices against waxing or polishing it by hand. BMW — Mini’s parent company — offers a special line of products developed for treating the Frozen Black metallic paint finish. Typical Bimmer move: specialize everything to maximize future profits.

2013 MINI Paceman by Roberto Cavalli

2013 MINI Paceman by Roberto Cavalli

For the 13th time in a row, Mini is preparing a special model that will be auctioned at the Vienna Life Ball for a good cause. This year it’s time for the company’s seventh model - the new Paceman - to dress up for the good cause.

This year’s Paceman Life Ball Edition was prepared by fashion designer Roberto Cavalli who opted for an iridescent paintwork that shimmers from black to brown, depending on the lighting.

On the roof, there is a huge "Robero Cavalli" logo, while the interior has also been completely redesigned according to Cavalli’s personal taste. The designer opted for a black trim with individual gilded elements – such as the decorative stitching on the leather seats and the Mini Center Speedo surround.

We’re hoping that the new Paceman by Roberto Cavalli will have the same success of all the previous Mini Life Ball models; for example last year the specially designed Roadster by Franca Sozzani was auctioned for €54,000 (around $71,000 at the current exchange rates).

Updated 05/29/2013: The new Mini Paceman by Roberto Cavalli was auctioned for a record €150,000 (about $194,000 at the current exchange rates) during the AIDS Solidarity gala. All the proceeds will go to combat HIV/AIDS.

This new special edition, dubbed the ALL4 Dakar Winner, will be limited to only 11 units - a tribute to Peterhansel’s 11 Dakar wins and it will be sold exclusively in Peterhansel’s home country of France.

On the exterior, this special edition uses the same colors seen on the MINI ALL4 Racing: a matte-black body combined with special bright-green racing stripes. The exterior will be distinguished by Dakar Rally winner’s logo and the Peterhansel’s signature on the bonnet. As with any other special edition, the new John Cooper Works Countryman ALL4 Dakar Winner received new 19-inch light-alloy wheels in Cross-Spoke Crusher design.

On the interior, the same black used on the exterior is combined with green contrast stitching on the gearshift lever gaiter and floor mats and, green stripes on the center console. Each unit will also be further identified by a special-edition logo and with the serial number placed above the glove compartment.

There is no mention of performance upgrades, so we can only assume that this special edition retains the same 211-horsepower, 1.6-liter turbocharged engine that is good for 221 pound-feet of peak torque. This sprints the JCW Countryman to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds.

2013 MINI Clubman Bond Street Edition

2013 MINI Clubman Bond Street Edition

German automaker, MINI has another special-edition model on the horizon and, just like the MINI Hyde Park, the MINI Green Park, the Cooper Bayswater, and the Cooper Baker Street, they’re naming this one after another London street/landmark.

Called the Clubman Bond Street Edition, the specially dressed Clubman is a new take on an old formula for MINI. Special-edition models have always been one of their calling cards and the Bond Street Edition is the latest in a long line of them.

It’s been graced with a lot of exterior and interior refinements, which in this case, work for the vehicle. MINI didn’t go for the splashy route like they’re accustomed to doing; instead, they went for a scheme that’s a little more high class and refined.

Make no mistake, MINI will always be known for its quirkiness; that won’t change. But this time, they left that out of the door in favor of something that actually looks like a classy stand out.

UPDATE 02/20/13: The MINI Clubman Bond Street Edition is headed to the Geneva Motor Show. Watch out for it at the MINI stand, fellas!

Heck, it even got our juices going, no small feat considering we have the athletic competency of a living room couch.
