Ford Unveils The 2022 E-Transit Electric Van
In an interview recently, Ford’s CEO, Jim Farley said, “There’s been a lot written about the electrification of our industry and Ford’s bet is different. We’re betting on a full lineup of commercial electrified vehicles.”
Well, it looks like the company has started its journey in the segment by unveiled the electric version of the world’s best-selling cargo van, the E-Transit. The van comes with connected services, an on-board generator, a range of 126 miles, and most importantly, a starting price of under $45,000. Will the E-Transit be as successful as the standard Transit?
Porsche Should Build a High-Performance Van Already
Porsche recently unveiled several concept cars that it has kept out of sight over the last 15 years. Among them, there’s the Vision Renndienst, an all-electric van that pays tribute to the old vans that Porsche used as support vehicles for its racing program back in the 1950s and 1960s. They were mainly first-generation Volkswagen Microbus vans, usually painted red and labeled "renndienst," which is German for "racing service." The van concept looks surprisingly hot, and given that Porsche already built something similar in the past, maybe it’s time Stuttgart rolls out a production van. Of the high-performance variety, of course.

Porsche’s “Porsche Unseen” campaign is the gift that keeps on giving. We’ve already seen two teasers of models that never made it to production, and now, the German automaker has dropped the third teaser of what looks to be a concept that goes against everything we thought Porsche stood for. The teaser doesn’t do much in showing the actual car, but a quick edit of the image’s brightness and exposure reveals a car that Porsche describes as a “futuristic vehicle with an autonomous driving mode.” It’s not exactly a pillar of everything that Porsche stands for, is it? There’s more to the teaser, too, specifically what the image editing reveals about its interior. Of all the teasers that Porsche has released for its Porsche Unseen campaign, this one is undoubtedly the most curious of them all.
When Chrysler introduced the Pacifica Hybrid, it rattled to ever-shrinking minivan segment to its core. Idaho-based Legacy Classic Trucks had taken up a unique restoration project recently. The company laid its hands on a 1937 tour bus that served at the Mount Rainier National Park in Washington state. Vintage tour buses are a popular sight at tourist spots, so retaining the essence of this bus was the most important thing about this restoration. Legacy Classic Trucks has managed to do it and it looks stunning.
However, it is priced exorbitantly high. The company is selling this restored, bespoke bus for over half-a-million dollars. Well, I’d rather buy a ticket and take a ride in it if it were to be deployed at a tourist site than buy it!
Dodge Emphasizes Its Move Toward Performance As It Kills Off the Grand Caravan and Dodge Journey (Finally)
FCA announced that Dodge will end production of the Grand Caravan after the 2020 model year. The iconic minivan traces its roots back to 1983 when the Caravan made its debut and started the whole minivan craze in the United States. The Grand Caravan goes into the history books as the best-selling minivan in the U.S., with almost 123,000 units sold in 2019. The decision, which seems a bit weird, comes as Dodge decided to focus on performance models.

With it competing against non-hybrid minivans we have actually been very curious about how well it stacks up against the less-sophisticated competition.

Rivian Just Got a Huuuge Order for Its Electric Delivery Trucks
You’re probably aware of each and every carmaker’s efforts of lowering emissions within their car lineups but also when it comes to the carbon footprint of their plants. BMW, in particular, have been taking such steps, but the trend isn’t alive solely among car manufacturers.
Giants such as Amazon are also looking to cut down on their carbon emissions, and what better way to start such a campaign - or better said, reinforce it - than by buying a huge fleet of all-electric delivery trucks.
2019 Mercedes V300d - Driven
Mercedes pitches the V-Class (known as the Metris in North America) as a cavernous van that can cater for both people and cargo carrying duties. And because it is a Mercedes, the passenger versions can be specced up to an almost unbelievable level, with comfort and luxury features you’d normally associate with the brand’s flagship S-Class sedan, or one of their other top-tier models.
The V-Class was recently lightly facelifted, but the refresh is so light that it’s clear Mercedes thought it was already quite good as it was. On the outside, the facelift only changed the front bumpers you can have on your V, depending on which version you opt for, as well as four all-new wheel designs that range in size from 17 to 19 inches - that’s it.
But Mercedes wasn’t sloppy in its effort to improve the V-Class (which in its third and current generation was introduced in 2014) and it mainly concentrated on improving its interior. For Europe, Mercedes swapped out the older 2.1-liter four-cylinder diesel available in several states of tune, replacing it with a new (and better) 2.0-liter that is just better in every single way.
My tester was a V300d, motivated by the new four-pot oil-burner in its most powerful guise, in Avantgarde trim and with the AMG Line pack fitted on. The latter transforms the look of the big V, especially since it swaps out the front bumper for a sportier looking one that is as aggressive as on any other AMG pack-equipped Mercedes. Essentially, it adds an AMG pack-specific grille and AMG pack-specific rims (in this case seven-twin-spoke 19-inch rims that have a silver-black two-tone finish and they really match the vehicle’s silver paint).

The 2020 Mercedes EQV Is the First Electric Luxury MPV, but Is It More than a V-Class with a Heart of Lithium?
Electrification has caught up with one of Mercedes’ largest passenger car offerings, its V-Class people carrier. What you’re looking at here is called the EQV and according to Mercedes, it is the only vehicle of its type currently available on the market.
It’s not Mercedes’ first commercial-type vehicle that has gone all-electric, as it follows in the footsteps of the eVito and eSprinter models. But unlike those models which are not especially luxurious or sport a premium feeling, the EQV has a more posh vibe about it (and a lot more range than either of them).

Lexus introduced its first-ever minivan at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show. It’s called the LM, and it’s based on the Toyota Alphard. Actually, unlike other Lexus vehicles, the LM is almost a rebadged Toyota on the outside. Of course, it features more upscale materials, and the cabin was transformed into a comfortable lounge, but it’s still a Toyota under the skin.

Lexus is joining the minivan segment with the upcoming release of the LM minivan. Yes, you read that right. Lexus, the same company that gave us the LFA supercar, is dipping its toes in the minivan market, proving that automakers will do just about anything to make money these days. The automaker has yet to unveil the LM minivan — that’s happening at the upcoming Auto Shanghai 2019 that kicks off on April 16 in Shanghai, China — but a teaser image of the model has provided clear hints that the model will be largely based on the Toyota Alphard. Yes; the same luxury van that Toyota has been selling in various Asian markets for the better part of 17 years. Production plans for the Lexus LM suggest that we’ll see the minivan hit the road sometime in 2020, though it’s unlikely that we’ll get to see the LM in the U.S.
