2020 Mitsubishi ASX
The current-generation Mitsubishi ASX keeps on chugging along. First introduced in 2010, Mitsubishi’s never-say-die crossover is back for another go at a segment that, on the surface, has passed it by a long time ago. But give credit to Mitsubishi. As dated as the ASX is — it received a facelift in 2015 — Mitsubishi believes that it can still print money, and as long as that’s the case, who are we to argue? And so, the 2020 ASX has arrived with another extensive facelift that, at the very least, gives the crossover a fighting chance at staying relevant in a market that has become increasingly competitive in recent years. It’s not just about staying relevant, though. Mitsubishi needs the 2020 ASX to hold the fort until the automaker launches its wave of new models under the Nissan-Renault banner. Can the 10-year old ASX do it? It better.
2020 Mitsubishi Lancer Cross
As the SUV market is growing larger by the year, more and more automakers are giving up on SUVs to make crossovers. Ford has already announced plans to drop almost every nameplate that’s not a crossover in the U.S. soon, and Mitsubishi seems to follow the same path. Having turned the Eclipse sports car into a crossover, the Japanese firm wants to do the same with the Lancer.
In 2017, Mitsubishi launched the Eclipse Cross, a compact crossover that slots between the Outlander Sport and the Outlander. Previewed by the XR-PHEV concept, this new hauler borrowed its name from an iconic sports car that Mitsubishi built between 1989 and 2011 in Illinois. With the iconic Lancer discontinued in 2017 after no fewer than 44 years on the market, the Japanese carmaker is pondering a revival of the name for a new crossover.
Rumors of this radical change have been flying around for a few years now, and Mitsubishi confirmed earlier in 2018, through COO Trevor Mann, that the next-gen Lancer doesn’t have to be "a very conventional hatchback." "We’re thinking quite radically," he added, hinting that the Lancer name may join the Eclipse on the SUV market. It remains unknown when it will happen, but a new rendering Tigran Lalayan, a designed from Pininfarina, gives us a look at what the Lancer Cross might look like.

2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross
Some could view the Mitsubishi brand as a problem child, being stuck in a kerfuffle as it tries to shift its lineup to meet the overwhelming demand for crossovers and SUVs. It was initially planning to hit the 100,000 sales mark here in the U.S. for 2016, but the financial year – which ends in March of 2017 – will be the first time in eight years that the brand has posted a loss. That suspected loss, which could amount to as much as ¥205 billion (about $2 million) can be attributed to the brand getting caught in its own scandal. But, that’s not the only reason.
Over the years, it has let down fans that prefer sporty cars over SUVs, with the Eclipse being killed off after 2012 and the Lancer soldiering on virtually unchanged and underpowered for a decade, just to be killed off before the start of 2018. With its focus consistently on SUV’s, it should come as no surprise that the brand has just announced a new compact SUV that will slot between the Outlander and Outlander Sport. Called the Eclipse Cross, the new SUV is actually a step forward for Mitsubishi and brings about a decent amount of technology, a new drivetrain option, and unique styling inside and out.
The Eclipse Cross is to make its debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, and while the name isn’t original – and maybe seen as stupid by those who remember the Eclipse coupe – the SUV itself is fresh and, at a glance, looks to be more advanced than anything else that Mitsubishi has on offer at the moment. But, before we get too far ahead of ourselves, let’s dive on in a take a good look at Mitsubishi’s latest SUV.

2017 Mitsubishi Mirage G4
Since 1978, Mitsubishi has put the Mirage name on a huge variety of cars, from coupes to hatchbacks, wagons to sedans. While the Mirage’s body style may have shifted depending on the model year and market, you can trace at least two common threads throughout the car’s history – small exterior dimensions, and an affordable price point. These days, stateside consumers know the Mirage as a subcompact five-door, while Mitsubishi’s corporate brass probably knows it better as the second biggest seller in the U.S. and an integral factor in keeping the brand afloat. To help bolster the Mirage’s success, Mitsubishi has announced a new sedan variant that promises the same value for money and interior tech as the hatch, plus a slightly revamped exterior appearance.
It’s called the G4, which stands for “global four-door.” Already on sale overseas, Mitsubishi hopes the G4 will attract customers looking for an affordable small car, but are left uninspired by the hatchback body style. In a press release, executive vice president of Mitsubishi Motors North America, Don Swearingen, called the dual Mirage offerings a “formidable one-two punch in the subcompact segment.” Read on to learn if it’s a knockout, or just a glancing blow.

Mitsubishi mildly updated its Outlander Sport for the 2014 model year to better compete with other compact crossovers like the Jeep Patriot and Nissan Juke. That update brought about things like available LED running lights, LED brake lights, and even leather on the inside. The model didn’t change much for the 2015 model year, but another update has been announced for the 2016 model year.
This year, the front grille and fascia have been changed to provide a new look. There are now several new exterior colors available and new technology that brings the Outlander Sport more in line with its main competitors. The executive vice president of Mitsubishi Motors said, "The Outlander Sport is a brand leader for Mitsubishi Motors, and we are excited to unveil this eye-catching 2016 model-year." He continued, "The Outlander Sport has always been a fun vehicle that delivers on its promise of reliability and value, and the 2016 model year continues to do so with a great new family look that unifies the Mitsubishi CUV lineup."
The 2016 Outlander Sport includes a new audio system, new high-quality interior fabrics, and a new interior color option. Furthermore, the Outlander Sport still starts out below 20 grand and includes a transferable limited warranty. It wasn’t that long ago that the subcompact segment was something of a joke in North America. There wasn’t much interest in them and manufacturers put very little effort into generating interest in a segment with such slim profit margins. But, when gas prices shot up a few years ago, manufacturers realized that they needed to turn out some much better small cars or they would risk being left behind in what has now become a highly competitive segment. Mitsubishi could be said to have been left behind, and the Mirage is consistently the lowest-rated car in this segment by any number of automotive publications.
So Mitsubishi has given the Mirage a facelift, one that is undeniably an improvement. The facelift isn’t a complete redesign though, so a lot of the Mirage’s characteristics, both good and bad, have remained. But enough has changed that it’s worth taking another look at the car, and for some who were on the fence about buying one, this might be just the right amount of encouragement. Of course, those people will have to wait a little while, as the Mirage being shown at the L.A. Auto Show is a 2017 model, and therefore won’t be available for a little while.

When the announcement was first made back in 2001 that the Lancer would be sold in North America, it was greeted with cheers from enthusiasts for upwards of 30 seconds before they learned that there were no immediate plans to bring over the EVO. We do have the EVO now, but the regular mainstream version of the Lancer never did catch on with enthusiasts. In fact it didn’t really catch on with anyone, and Honda has averaged about 10 Civics sold in North America for every Lancer sold here since it was first introduced in 2001 for the 2002 model year.
Mitsubishi has now brought out a facelifted version of the current generation to try to win back some customers and undo the sales side that the model has been in for about a decade at this point. The facelift has more riding on it that just sales though, Mitsubishi has been said to be debating whether or not to kill off the model altogether, and the success of the model over the next couple of years will no doubt determine its fate once and for all. These kinds of moves do sometimes work, but the Lancer has a long way to go to be a serious competitor in its segment.

Although the Lancer nameplate goes all the way back to 1973, the sedan didn’t become the high-performance vehicle we all know today until the early 1990s. It was 1992 when Mitsubishi launched the Lancer Evolution, a beefed-up version of the standard Lancer originally intended for the Japanese market. Its immediate success prompted Mitsubishi to sell it globally, and the Lancer Evo legend was born. No less than ten generations have been developed since then, with the first nine built through 2006. The most recent iteration, the Evolution X, has been in production since October 2007 as a 2008 model year but took a one-year break in 2009 only to return the following year. The 2015 model year will be the last for the Lancer Evo, with the iconic moniker to be retired all over the world.
Having been discontinued in many markets as of September 2014, the Lancer Evo X lives on for the 2015 model year in the United States with a host of updates and new features. Read on to find out more about the final version of the Evo X and the updates it received since its 2010 facelift.

There’s just something about a sports sedan that just does it for me. Maybe it’s the fact that I now have a family and a sports sedan caters to both the father and teenager inside of me, by offering up four doors, a stylish look and acceptable performance. Then again, maybe I am just an old man that has grown used to rocking a sedan, man purse and a diaper bag — yeah, that’s probably it.
Well, enter in the 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer GT that I got my hands on for a week, and was really surprised with what I saw. I am definitely no fan of the Lancer as a whole lineup — sans the EVO, of course — because it has become a stale look that feels really, really dated. But add in the GT trim level that tosses in the 18-inch wheels, big rear wing and some niceties on the inside, and it was acceptable. Sure, I would have preferred the 237-horsepower Ralliart model, but at least the GT looks the part.
The Lancer never really gets its fair chance in the compact sedan market, as the Focus, Corolla, Civic and Forte really hog up all the attention. So, we’re here to give it a chance to warm our hearts.

Mitsubishi introduced the Lancer nomenclature to its lineup back in 1973 and since then it became one of its most successful models, with more than six million units being sold over the years. Depending on the market, Lancer was sold under different names, ranging from Dodge Colt (first generation) in the United States and up to Galant Fortis (current generation) on the Japanese one.
The model was sold under different body versions, and starting 1992 it received an Evolution version - which is basically a high-performance version featuring a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine and all-wheel drive system.
For the 2014 model year, the Lancer continues to be offered in four trim levels: ES, SE, GT and Ralliart - each of them offering different upgrades for the new year. Still, you shouldn’t expect anything big, because all the major updates were reserved for the next generation.
Updated 06/13/2014: Mitsubishi announced details on the 2015 Lancer which comes with quite an impressive number of updates and new features. As usual, Mitsubishi focused its attention on upgrading the Lancer’s safety, so for the 2015 model the sedan was updated with an advanced, seven air bag Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) that offers the best protection for both front and rear passengers. Also, all models will get new heated side view mirrors with turn indicators and a slew of new, standard features.

For years, Mitsubishi has barely made a dent in the automotive world. The rise of competition and the general ambivalence towards automotive progress have played their part in that.
But if there’s one model that Mitsubishi can still rely on these days, it’s the Lancer.
Tried, tested and proven to the hilt, the Lancer has become the standard-bearer for everything that Mitsubishi has represented in the auto industry. That’s all well and good, especially for a brand that relies on the model so much.
One particular trim for the Lancer that Mitsubishi has high hopes for is the Lancer Sportback. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that a lot of people are high on this model, proudly carrying the Lancer badge all while coming in a space-saving hatchback trim that’s far removed from the mighty Lancer Evolution models.
Even though it’s not as powerful as its Evolution brother, the Lancer Sportback has plenty of endearing qualities about it. And again, for Mitsubishi, that’s a win in its own right.

Japanese automaker Mitsubishi has never been one to look for the spotlight. Even if they have concepts in these auto shows, they’re more than content to show their latest offerings without any hints of trying to upstage anybody else.
At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Mitsu will be bringing two concepts that will probably get little attention but are no less important, as it pertains to the future of their vehicular lineup. One of these concepts is called the CA-MiEV Concept.
Described as a next-generation EV that follows in the reins of the MiEV, the CA-MiEV will feature a slew of new technologies to go with what looks like an aggressively designed exterior that’s highlighted by a pretty striking set of LED headlights. We don’t know about you, but we’re very interested to see this concept with the lights on.
As far as the technologies are concerned, Mitsubishi is indicating that the CA-MiEV will carry a lot of them, including high-energy-density batteries and high-efficiency EV systems (motor, inverter, regenerative braking and wireless charging system) with both systems, enabling the concept to carry a cruising range of 300 km.
We’re looking forward to seeing what Mitsubishi has with the CA-MiEV. At the very least, this could be an interesting concept that brings attention back to the Japanese automaker.
It looks as if the Evolution lineup in Mitsubishi may be getting bigger, but not too much bigger. Rumor has it that the struggling Japanese automaker is currently working on developing an Evolution trim level for its incoming hatchback, the Mitsubishi Mirage.
Details are still pretty thin on this potential model, buy Japanese magazine, Best Car, is all but certain that the model is underway and it will join the Mirage lineup shortly after its 2013 release. Seeing a subcompact hatchback like this bearing the “EVO” badge may seem a little strange, given the fact that the original Lancer Evolution has always been a four-door sedan with monstrous performance numbers.
This version of the EVO will not quite have the power numbers of the Lancer EVO, but it will be extremely powerful, given its puny specifications. Under the hood, we all expect to see a 1.5-liter three-banger engine that pumps out a respectful 150 horsepower, thanks to the help of a turbocharger. Where this new Evolution will make up ground is in the diet that Mitsubishi has this hatchback on. When it is all said and done, it is expected that Mitsubishi will have the Mirage weighing less than 2,000 lbs, giving it around a 12.5 pounds-per-horsepower rating, which is very respectable for its class.
Other than those few bits of information, everyone’s lips are pretty well sealed on the possible Mirage Evolution. We will continue to monitor the rumor mills for you and keep you up to date on all of the latest rumors and leaks, as we keep our fingers crossed for this performance subcompact hatchback.
In early 2011, Mitsubishi announced that it will be discontinuing one of the marquis economy sports cars of the last two decades, the Eclipse. The Eclipse lived a rather odd life, starting out with two nearly identical siblings in the Plymouth Laser and Eagle Talon. After the elimination of the Laser, the Eclipse and Talon remained, turning into two of the most beautiful economy sports cars ever built, in 1995.
In 1998, Eagle folded and only the beautiful Eclipse remained, but the death of its sibling didn’t set too well with the Eclipse, as after just one year of being on its own, it morphed into a rather ugly and over-styled pig that required a V-6 engine to be even remotely fun to drive.
In 2006, Mitsubishi finally came to its senses and realized that the new body style just wasn’t doing the “Eclipse” name justice, so they went back to the drawing board and created a rounder Eclipse that more closely resembled the one from the late-90s. Oddly enough, this new sportier Eclipse is actually heavier than its predecessor, but that certainly does not take away from its beauty.
In the earlier years, when a car was on its last production year, the final model to roll off of the production line was kept by the manufacturer and stored. In more recent years, the last model typically ran off of the production line like any other model and became lost in the sea of models. Mitsubishi seized this opportunity to fully customize the final Eclipse, which is an SE model, so that it was truly a one-of-a-kind vehicle. Now this brand new Eclipse is up for sale by RK Motors Charlotte.

The Geneva Auto Show is still two months away and Mitsubishi has already announced its lineup for the event. Among the many vehicles that are already on sale, Mitsubishi will also be bringing the Concept Global Small (show model). This concept car is really no different than all of the other small cars coming out as its main goal is to be compact, affordable, and highly fuel efficient.
The Concept Global Small is a preview version of a new model that will go into production starting March 2012 at the MMC’s third factory in Thailand. Despite its compact sizes, the new Concept Global Small offers enough interior room for five adults and offers good maneuverability and easy operation.
The concept will be powered by a choice of 1.0 or 1.2 liter compact engines equipped with a regenerative braking system and start-stop mechanism. Other features will include reduced running resistance in the engine, new-generation CVT, brakes, and tires, and a body shape that greatly reduces aerodynamic resistance.
The Concept Global Small will be sold in Thailand for 400,000 Thai baht (or $13,119 at the current rates).
