2022 Morgan Super 3
Morgan’s new three-wheel model gets a hint of modernism while still keeping it old-school
by Dim Angelov, on LISTEN 02:29Morgan is one of the very few carmakers that still does things old-school. That said, even Morgan has realized it has to move with the times. With this in mind, how do you make a contemporary vehicle while still adhering to tradition? Somehow, the old British automotive company has managed to pull it off, and this endeavor resulted in the 2022 Morgan Super 3.

The 2022 Morgan Super 3 may look like a slightly updated Morgan Three-wheeler, but it’s actually an entirely new model. This Super 3 is the first three-wheel Morgan to feature the company’s new aluminum chassis, revolving around a bonded-aluminum Superformed monocoque. Another novelty is the engine, which is a naturally-aspirated version of the 1.5-liter Ford EcoBoost inline-three unit. In the Super 3, the engine produces 118 horsepower at 6,500 RPM and 110 pound-feet (149 Nm) at 4,500 RPM.
Moreover, unlike the air-cooled S&S V-twin motorcycle engine of the Morgan 3-wheeler, which was exposed, the Super 3 engine is hidden under the bodywork. Power still goes to the rear wheel, through a Mazda MX-5, five-speed manual. The Super 3 has picked up some weight over the 3-wheeler – 1,400 pounds (635 kg) versus 1,212 pounds (550 kg), but it still manages a respectable 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) time of 7.0 seconds, on to a top speed of 130 mph (210 km/h).
Chief Morgan designer, Jonathan Wells spoke in front of Carfection where he said that “the last 3-wheeler was a Scrambler, great for a blast on a Sunday afternoon”, whereas the Super 3 is “more of an adventure bike. Effortless power and much more dynamic-compliance”.
It is more plausible that Morgan updated the chassis, due to certain safety requirements than anything else. With that being said, the three-wheeled model is still true to tradition in that it is simple, lightweight, old-school, and provides a visceral driving experience and exposure to the elements. The Super 3 is scheduled to enter production in April 2022, with the first batch of cars arriving in the U.S., in the third quarter of the year, with a starting price of around $70,000.
