At the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, Nissan launched the "Color Studio," a factory personalization program that allows customers to add an array of accessories and accent colors to their vehicles. The program was first introduced for the Juke, but at 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show it will expand to the 2016 model year Versa Note.

The concept is obviously identical to the hatchback. Customers have six exterior parts and six interior features finished to their own liking, as long as they select one of the six hues available. The accent colors can be paired with of the Versa Note’s seven exterior colors and two interior shades, resulting in tens of possible combinations.

The Color Studio program also comes with a special website that offers a full 360-degree view of the Versa Note in all colors and combinations. The said page will go live here starting November 17th.

"The expansion of the Color Studio program to the active lifestyle Versa Note builds on the success of last year’s Juke Color Studio," said Pierre Loing, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America. "As we found with Juke, a little color — or a lot — dramatically changes the look of a vehicle and there’s no easier way to make a ride stand out than the convenient, affordable Color Studio process. We believe Versa Note owners are going to embrace the concept just as much as Juke owners do."

What makes the Nissan Versa Note Color Studio special

Much like the Juke Color Studio, the Versa Note Color Studio will allow you to have certain exterior parts in a different color to create all sorts of accents with the standard paint. The Color Studio palette is available for the 15-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, wheel center caps, front lip insert, door handles, mirror caps, lower tailgate trim, and the roof spoiler. Obviously, all have to be finished in the same color, which has to be either Black, White, Red, Black-Purple, Orange, or Carbon Fiber Look. These colors are identical to the ones offered for the Juke, but the crossover also had Yellow and Electric Blue. For some reason, Nissan decided not to include them in the Versa Note’s Color Studio.

Anyway, you can combine these accent colors with any of the exterior colors available for the hatchback. Depending on trim (the Color Studio can be had with any of them), you can choose between Brilliant Silver, Metallic Peacock, Super Black, Cayenne Red, Gun Metallic, Fresh Powder, Aspen White, and Metallic Blue. Obviously, combinations between similar colors should be avoided in order to get a contrasting effect. the Carbon Fiber Look is likely to work with any exterior, including the Super Black, but there are several combinations that can result in a flashy and sporty appearance. Black with orange accents, blue with orange accents, red with black accents, and silver with black-purple accents should be interesting.

On the inside, you can have any of the six accent colors on the speaker and air-vent rings, rearview mirror cover, trim appliques, kick plates, and floor mats. Again, the resulting combination depends on which trim you choose. The S and S Plus models come with Charcoal Cloth interiors, while the SV and the range-topping SL can be had with either Charcoal or Wheat Stone Cloth. The SR model also has a Charcoal interior, but with orange stripes on the seats. Most Color Studio hues should work well with both the black and gray interiors, but red and orange are likely to provide stronger contrasts.

Pricing is not yet available, but Nissan did say the cost of the accessories can be added to the Versa Note purchase or lease costs and rolled into the payment of the vehicle. Dealer labor charges apply if installation is done at the dealership. The Versa Note retails from $14,180 and fetches more than $18,660 when selected in its range-topping SL trim.

The Nissan Versa Note was unveiled at the 2013 New York Auto Show as a replacement for the Nissan Versa hatchback. The model went on sale for the 2014 model year with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine under the hood. The four-pot cranks out 109 horsepower and 107 pound-feet of torque through either a five-speed manual gearbox or a CVT. In 2015, Nissan introduced a sportier SR model with larger, 16-inch wheels, new side mirrors and roof spoiler, "SR" badges, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and orange accents on the seats.

Press Release

One year ago, Nissan used Los Angeles – arguably the hometown of the original custom car trend – to launch its unique factory-personalization program called the "Color Studio" on the popular Nissan JUKE sport cross. Next week, the company returns to the Los Angeles Auto Show to debut an expansion of the Nissan Color Studio to include the 2016 Versa Note.

As with the JUKE Color Studio, the Versa Note Color Studio allows owners to "make it yours" through an a la carte selection of 13 exterior and interior accent accessories, each available in a choice of six vibrant colors. For example, a Super Black Versa Note exterior can be trimmed in orange-accented 15-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and orange front lip finisher, mirror caps, door handles, rear hatch accent and rear roof spoiler. Inside, the owner might choose to apply orange kick plates, speaker rings and air vent rings.

The Color Studio accessories are offered for all 2016 Versa Note grade levels, including the sporty Versa Note SR, as well as available for retrofitting on 2014 and 2015 Versa Notes.

"The expansion of the Color Studio program to the active lifestyle Versa Note builds on the success of last year’s JUKE Color Studio," said Pierre Loing, vice president, Product Planning, Nissan North America, Inc. "As we found with JUKE, a little color – or a lot – dramatically changes the look of a vehicle and there’s no easier way to make a ride stand out than the convenient, affordable Color Studio process. We believe Versa Note owners are going to embrace the concept just as much as JUKE owners do."

As with JUKE Color Studio, the cost of the accessories can be added to the Versa Note purchase or lease costs and rolled into the payment of the vehicle. Dealer labor charges apply if installation is done at the dealership.

The Versa Note Color Studio palette of available accessory colors includes Black, White, Red, Black-Purple, Orange and Carbon Fiber Look. The full list of available accessories is:

Exterior: Aluminum-alloy wheels (15-inch), wheel center caps, front lip finisher, door handle covers, side mirror caps (with and without turn signal), and rear roof spoiler
Interior: Floor mats, kick plates, speaker rings, air vent rings, rearview mirror interior cover and interior trim appliques

Another feature of the Color Studio program, available for both Versa Note and JUKE, is a special website (NissanUSA.com/VersaNoteColorStudio) that offers a full 360-degree view of the vehicles with all colors and combinations of parts for configuration. The site is available for viewing on smartphones and sharing on social platforms such as Facebook, Pinterest and Google+, as well as in Nissan dealer showrooms. The Versa Note section of the Color Studio site goes live on November 17.
