The 2022 New York Auto Show happened this week, and one of the first vehicles to break cover was from Nissan. It is a bolder, off-road-inspired version of the Pathfinder called the Pathfinder Rock Creek. It will go on sale in the summer of 2022, along with the complete 2023 Pathfinder lineup.

What makes the 2023 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek special?

Just like with any other model equipped for off-roading, the biggest update is the suspension. For the Rock Creed edition, Nissan opted for a specially off-road-tuned suspension with a 5/8-inch lift. There is also a new set of 18-inch beadlock-style wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires. As standard equipment, the model will offer a tubular roof rack with up to 220-pound load capacity.

In order to further distinguish the model from the rest of the lineup, Nissan added an exclusive front fascia with a dark V-motion grille and mesh insert. For the exterior, there will be a choice of six mono-tone exterior colors and four two-tone combinations.

On the interior, the seats will be covered in a combination of exclusive leatherette and fabric. A contrasting orange will be used for the Rock Creek embroidery, and also for the stitching on the seats, steering wheel, instrument panel, center console, and door panels.

As standard equipment, the model will offer a tow hitch receiver and harness, 6,000-pound maximum towing capacity, second-row captain's chairs, and LED fog lights. Finally, 'Rock Creek' badging will complete the picture.

Under the hood, the Rock Creek version keeps the same 3.5-liter, naturally aspirated V-6 engine. But, due to revised fuel mapping, the output has been increased from 284 to 295 horsepower, while torque goes from 259 to 270 pound-feet. Power is routed to the wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox. Unlike the rest of the lineup, the Rock Creek will only be offered in a four-wheel-drive configuration.

"The 2022 Pathfinder was all about a 'return to rugged,' and the Pathfinder Rock Creek takes that spirit even further," said Michael Colleran, senior vice president, Nissan U.S. Marketing and Sales. "From the urban jungle to the natural beauty that can be reached within minutes from the city, Pathfinder Rock Creek has both the style and hardware to create an adventure just about anywhere."
