Nissan’s New e-4orce AWD EV Powertrain Might Provide Support for the Next-Gen Nissan GT-R and Z Car
Nissan has been trying to make its presence in the EV world known for a while now, and the Leaf has served its purpose for the most part. The leaf, however, just doesn’t have what it takes to hold up in terms of range or performance. That’s why we were treated to the 2019 Nissan Leaf Twin-Motor Concept and why Nissan has been using the basis of that concept to create the e-4orce twin-motor, four-wheel-drive powertrain for its next-gen EVs. Until now, we knew very little, but Nissan has finally spilled some details about e-4orce, and it could have some serious implications on the future of Nissan sports cars.
Tickets to the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon Will Include a Tomica Nissan GT-R NISMO GT500
If you’re attending the Tokyo Auto Salon on January 10, you can score a Nissan GT-R NISMO GT500 race car if you order tickets to the show early. No, you’re not getting an actual GT-R NISMO GT500 race car. Instead, you’re receiving a toy version of the racer courtesy of Japanese toy car maker Tomica. Pre-sale tickets for Friday, January 10, will cost 4,000 yen or around $37 based on current exchange rates. The cost of the ticket already includes the Tomica GT-R NISMO GT500. Costs of tickets for Saturday, January 11, and Sunday, January 12 add up to 3,000 yen or almost $28. If you’re not looking to score the Tomica GT-R NISMO GT500, the cost of tickets for January 10 is 3,000 yen and only 2,000 yen ($18.5) for January 11 and 12.
Nissan Is Actually Putting the GT-R50 by Italdesign into Production
We’ve seen the Nissan GT-R50 Concept and then Nissan showed us a “production” model, but we never thought the crazy-expensive version of Godzilla would actually go into production. Well, as it turns out, it’s already happened, and the first customer example will be shown off at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show. Don’t expect to get close to it though – with a Price tag of €990,000, you can expect Nissan to be excessively cautious of who comes close.
2020 Nissan Global Time Attack TT 370Z
Nissan unveiled a Time Attack-spec Nissan 370Z built by Z1 Motorsport in conjunction with Nissan Motorsport that is bound to take the world of time attack racing by storm. With 750 horsepower on tap thanks to a pair of Garrett turbochargers, this 370Z is one of the craziest you’ll ever see. The widebody is made entirely out of carbon fiber, the interior is bare, and, to shed even more weight, the body was acid-dipped. In other words, the guys at Nissan and Z1 Motorsport stopped at nothing in their mission to turn what many consider an outdated sports car into a record-breaking track beast.
2019 Nissan Frontier Desert Runner
The Nissan Frontier Desert Runner doesn’t have the racing pedigree of the Nissan Global Time Attack TT 370Z or the sheer tuning audacity of the Nissan Kicks Street Sport, but if you’re looking for a rugged version of Nissan’s long-standing pickup with some serious off-road chops, the Frontier Desert Runner should be right up your alley. Developed by the Nissan Motorsports team in collaboration with MA Motorsports, the Frontier Desert Runner is teeming with purpose-specific upgrades that help enhance the pickup’s already impressive form and functionality. Nissan has yet to give any indication of potential production plans for the tricked-out pickup, but that could come soon if there’s decent enough demand for it. For now, though, the Nissan Frontier Desert Runner takes center stage at the 2019 SEMA Auto Show.
2019 Nissan Kicks Street Sport Concept
The 2019 Nissan Kicks Street Sport is a concept car developed by Nissan Motorsports and MA Motorsports for the 2019 SEMA Show. A more aggressive version of the small crossover, it looks a lot like a Nismo-built model thanks to its sportier stance and race-inspired upgrades inside the cabin. It even features a more powerful engine, although specific performance information is not available. Sadly, this beefed-up Kicks won’t come to a dealerships near you anytime soon. Here’s why you should be upset about it.
2019 Nissan Leaf Twin-Motor Concept
The 2019 Nissan Leaf Twin-Motor is an all-electric concept car that features two electric motors and all-wheel-drive capability. It’s heavily based on the existing second-generation Nissan Leaf, as it features an identical exterior and a lightly modified interior. Unveiled at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, the twin-motor Leaf concept previews a new production car that’s already in the works. According to Nissan, this new drivetrain will enable a future EV to "achieve a huge leap in acceleration, cornering and braking performance, on par with the latest sports cars."
2019 Nissan Ariya Concept
The Nissan Ariya Concept has arrived at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. The all-electric crossover concept will take its place in Nissan’s booth in the show. But the Ariya Concept is far from a show car that will fall back into the shadows when the show ends. The Ariya Concept is a production-ready prototype that will eventually evolve to become Nissan’s second mass-market electric vehicle, joining the long-standing Leaf in that lineup. The production car — it will likely be called Ariya, too — will take plenty of cues from its concept counterpart. It’s not expected to hit the market until 2020, so for now, absorb everything you can absorb with the Ariya Concept. You’ll be seeing a lot more of the crossover in the near future.
2019 Nissan IMk Concept
About a decade ago, Nissan struck gold with the Nissan Leaf. The compact five-door hatchback was the automaker’s first-ever electric car, and it also happened to be one of the first mass-produced electric cars in the world. The Nissan Leaf was a pioneer, but now that it’s almost 10 years old, it’s also transitioned into a relic of sorts as newer and more advanced EVs have started hitting the market.
With the aging Leaf nearing its end date, Nissan is revisiting the successful blueprint it created a decade ago by introducing the IMk Concept, a small electric hatchback concept that’s pegged as a full-blown electric city commuter that packs a lot of Nissan’s new technologies. Does the concept point to Nissan’s future plans in the EV sphere? Could Nissan trap lightning in a bottle for a second time with the IMk Concept? We’ll find the answers to these questions at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show when the IMk Concept makes its world debut.
The 2020 Nissan GT-R 50th Edition Honors the GT-R Legacy in All the Right Ways
Fifty years ago, Nissan introduced the Skyline as a four-door sedan in its home market of Japan. Nobody knew it at that time, Nissan included, but in the course of the next half-century, The Skyline would give birth to what is arguably the most iconic Japanese supercar of all time, Godzilla itself, the Nissan GT-R. Nissan is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the GT-R’s roots with the debut of the Nissan 50th Anniversary GT-R at the 2019 New York Auto Show. The 50th Anniversary GT-R isn’t a special edition model in the traditional sense. Instead, Nissan is offering the anniversary treatment in the form of an appearance package for the 2020 GT-R. Nissan has yet to release pricing and availability options for the 50th Anniversary GT-R, but seeing as the model is making its debut at the 2019 New York Auto Show, it’s safe to say that we’re going to get our hands on the model, or at least the appearance package that turns the GT-R into the 50th Anniversary model.
Sorry Folks - The 2020 Nissan GT-R Nismo Is Here and It’s Pretty Much the Same
Rumors of a new-generation Nissan GT-R, possibly with a hybrid drivetrain, have been flying around for years now. But the R35 isn’t going anywhere anytime soon because Nissan just introduced a new version of the GT-R Nismo at the 2019 New York Auto Show. The Nismo model is already five years old (while the GT-R itself is 12 years old), but Nissan didn’t make any radical changes to the design and drivetrain.
The 2020 Nissan 370Z Looks Stunning in Red and White at the New York Auto Show
Remember all those rumors about Nissan working on some sort of successor for the 370Z? Well, it might happen at some point, but for the time being the 370Z is here to stay. Nissan just confirmed the sports car for the 2020 model year and introduced a special 50th Anniversary Edition at the 2019 New York Auto Show.

We saw this coming. Nissan unveiled the fourth-generation Sylphy, a model that will most likely arrive Stateside under the Sentra name, at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show. The new car features a wider look, a more aggressive fascia, a host of Nissan Intelligent Mobility technologies but nothing new in the engine department although the existing mills will be bonded to a new Xtronic transmission.
The Nissan Sylphy is a car that we’ve come to know and appreciate in the U.S. since it was introduced in 2013 as the Nissan Sentra. In China, two other generations preceded it while the Sentra name itself is one with a certain history as it’s been going for some seven generations already. The previous Sentra, known as the B16, which was introduced at the 2006 North American International Auto Show was 2.3 inches shorter and 150 pounds heavier than the current model and was underpinned by Nissan’s C platform while the current Sylphy/Sentra is based on the Nissan V platform. While we’ll have to wait a little while before the Sylphy changes its badges to Sentra and arrives Stateside, but you can expect it to look largely like the copper-colored car you see here, maybe with a few tweaks around the front end.
2020 Nissan Versa Unveiled With Standard Safety Tech, Sleek Styling
Nissan just dropped details on the brand-new 2020 Versa subcompact sedan, and so far, so good. Outside, the new Versa looks much improved thanks some sleek body panels that work well with Nissan’s latest signature styling features, including the V-motion grille and boomerang-shaped headlights. The dimensions also play a part here, as the new Versa is lower, longer, and wider than the outgoing model.
Inside, the cabin takes after Nissan’s larger sedans, including the Altima and Maxima, and emphasize the horizontal for an added sense of space. The cabin is also stuffed with safety stuff, including standard features like Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, Rear Automatic Braking, and frontal Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection. You can also opt into features like Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent Cruise Control, Intelligent Driver Alertness, and Blind Spot Warning.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto headline the infotainment bits, while automatic climate control and heated front seats keep it comfy.
Motivation is derived from a 1.6-liter four-cylinder, which sends 122 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels. Transmission options include either a five-speed manual as standard, or an optional CVT.
The 2020 Nissan Versa will go on sale this summer, or you can catch it next week at the 2019 New York Auto Show. No word on pricing just yet, but it should be quite reasonable considering the current model comes with an MSRP of $12,360.
2019 Nissan IMq Concept
The Nissan IMq is a concept crossover that the Japanese firm unveiled at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.Part of a series of IM-badged concepts that also include the IMs and IMx, the IMq previews an upcoming subcompact crossover, likely the second-generation Juke, but also "signals the direction" of Nissan’s next generation of SUVs.
"Its styling reflects Nissan’s role as a pioneer and leader in crossovers, with a striking look that pushes the boundaries of what a European crossover can be," Nissan said, suggesting that the production version of the IMq will be Euro-spec only. This strengthens the scenario that it may preview a new Juke, which was replaced by the Kicks in the United States in 2018. On the other hand, it could also be a preview for the third-generation Qashqai, due in 2020. In the U.S., the Qashqai is sold as the Rogue Sport.
Nissan Could Have One of the Best Stands at the New York Auto Show
Nissan is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Z and Skyline-GTR this year, and it looks like the New York Auto Show will be the site of one of the company’s celebrations. Details are still under wraps, but the Japanese automaker did reveal a teaser that indicated its plan to introduce the “ultimate dream garage” in the Big Apple. The teaser image shows eight Nissans on and under lifts. It’s hard to make out the models under the lifts, but it’s possible that those are the surprise reveals that Nissan is planning for the event. Could two of those four models be 50th-anniversary versions of the Nissan 370Z and the Nissan GT-R? We’ll find out soon enough.
The 2019 Nissan IMQ Concept Previews Questionable Crossover Design for the Future, But Nice Tech
The 2019 Geneva Motor Show is overflowing with new tech concepts, including this fresh entry in the crossover segment from Nissan. It’s called the IMQ, and although we’re not really into the weird exterior styling, features like the torquey hybrid powertrain, futuristic interior, and intriguing tech ideas make it worth a look.

2020 Nissan Rogue Sport
When seen from a bird’s eye view, Nissan is actually managing its crossover portfolio quite well. At the entry-level, the Japanese automaker has the Kicks and, at the top, it has the Nissan Rogue. Nissan had the Juke to fill the gap in between, but the model was discontinued a couple of years back. Although it looked like the Kicks will have to manage two duties, Nissan quickly came up with a much better replacement for the Juke in the form of the Nissan Rogue Sport. The Rogue Sport was specially designed for the U.S. market and is not being sold anywhere else.
2019 Nissan Titan Rocky Ridge Concept
At the Nissan USA stand at the Chicago Motor Show we had the chance to see a rather surprising and intimidating truck called the Nissan Titan K2 Rocky Ridge Concept. It is a lifted Titan truck, engineered by Rocky Ridge, specialists in “making big bad lifted trucks” with more than 30 years of experience. Although revealed in concept guise, let me tell you that the Rocky Ridge Titan K2 is ready to pounce. The Georgia-based truck magicians made sure of it with a comprehensive set of additions that made this Titan K2 Rocky Ridge Concept as tough and as terrifying as possible. This is what we learned about it at the Show.
2019 Nissan Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition
The Rock Creek Edition is a special-edition version of the Nissan Pathfinder that includes new accessories and a few extra features at no additional cost. Introduced at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, it freshens up the somewhat dated fourth-generation Pathfinder, which was launched in 2012 and went through a mid-cycle upgrade for the 2017 model year. Offered on SV and SL grades (no soup for you if you want the base model or the range-topping Platinum trim), it costs only $995. Nissan says it will save you $1,315 compared to a similar vehicle with all those features ordered separately, but is it worth it? Let’s find out in the review below.
The 2020 Nissan Rogue Sport Is Semi-Autonomous But Still Only With An N/A Engine
Apart from the Pathfinder Rock Creek Edition Package, Nissan showcased the 2020 Rogue Sport at the dawn of the 2019 Chicago Motor Show. The exceptionally successful small compact SUV has been slightly updated inside out with Nissan especially focusing on safety. Considering that Kia revealed the new Sportage at the show and gifted it with all kinds of safety gear, I can only say that the compact crossover segment is really evolving. All new cars from the segment are exceptionally well endowed with all kind of safety gear. With a bit of markup though, the new 2020 Nissan Rogue Sport easily surpasses the rest. You can have the small and fairly cheap 2020 Nissan Rogue Sport with a freaking ProPILOT Assist system (a semi-autonomous driving system). True, the tech was available on the European Qashqai (the Rogue Sport for the Old Continent) before, and for the U.S. in the Rogue. Nevertheless, with it in the Rogue Sport, I am rather confident that the tech will be scaled down to basically all Nissan cars.
Nissan Adds Off-Road Looks To The Pathfinder with the Rock Creek Edition Package
The current-generation Nissan Pathfinder is six years old, but without an all-new model on the way, Nissan has taken to rolling out special edition packages to keep its SUV as fresh as a daisy. The new package, called the Rock Creek Edition, provides an off-road look to the to three-row crossover to go along with a handful of useful equipment that you can use in the outdoors. The Nissan Pathfinder will be on display at the 2019 Chicago Auto Show. Available to the mid-tier SV and SL trims of the Pathfinder, pricing for the special edition SUV starts at $35,265 for the SL trim and $38,915 for the higher-spec SL trim. The Rock Creek Package itself costs just $995.
