Tesla Model S Driver Rams Into A Nissan SUV Despite Autopilot's Warning

Tesla Model S Driver Rams Into A Nissan SUV Despite Autopilot’s Warning

To quote Dr. Sheldon Cooper, “I cry because other people are stupid”

This is the latest Autopilot crash; but it wasn’t the system’s fault. A couple, who was too busy engrossed in something else other than focusing on the road, rear-ended a Nissan SUV despite the system warning and chiming its brains out. How can one trust a machine blindly?

Alligators aren’t anything to mess with. These prehistoric lizards pack a mouthful of teeth ready to crush anything that might look like food or pose a threat. The latter is exactly what one good ole boy found out when he came face… err… bumper to face with a gator in his first-generation Nissan Frontier.

What proceeds next isn’t really surprising, but the outcome is certainly unpredicted. As the driver approaches the blatantly upset gator, it begins to hiss – a warning sign to anyone with sensibilities. It’s apparent the man though the gator would be intimidated by the truck’s size and slither away. Well, that’s not what happened.

I won’t spoil the fun of the video, but rest assured the man will be looking for new Frontier parts.

He shouldn’t have any trouble finding those parts, as those first-generation trucks were rather popular. Nissan began building the Frontier in 1997 as a replacement for the venerable Hard Body. The initial design lasted through 2003 with a mid-cycle refresh happening in 2001.

Power came by way of two engine options: a 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a 3.3-liter V-6. Neither option was overly powerful, though Nissan did offered a dealer-installed supercharger option on the V-6. Available with both engines were a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic. Of course, 4WD was an option as well.

Despite the media’s unloving reports about the truck when it was new, Nissan sold nearly half a million first-gen Frontiers, proving that folks loved its rugged looks, honest capability, and fair price. Perhaps the Frontier would have sold even more had Nissan equipped to truck to be gator proof. Then again, that’s sort of a niche quality.

2015 Nissan Murano Received "Top Safety Pick Plus" From IIHS

The all-new 2015 Nissan Murano has just earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s highest honor, the Top Safety Pick Plus safety rating. This comes after the IIHS evaluated five crash categories including moderate front overlap, side, roof strength, head restraint, and the new small overlap crash tests.

The crossover scored a “Good” rating in all five Top Safety Pick categories, plus offers an optional crash prevention system, which means it qualifies for the Top Safety Pick Plus award. Crash prevention systems are also rated by their effectiveness with either an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating. The Murano scored a superior.

Helping the Murano pass the battery of tests is a bevy of safety equipment, including Nissan’s Advanced Airbag System with its dual-stage deployment, seat belt detectors, and occupant weight sensors. Also present are seat-mounted side airbags up front, side curtain airbags, and a driver’s knee airbag. The front seats also get seat belts with pre-tensioners while the rear seats come with the mandated LATCH child seat hook-ups.

On the preventative side, the Murano is optional with Nissan’s “Safety Shield” technologies, which include Intelligent Cruise Control, Blind Spot Warning, Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Forward Emergency Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Driver Attention Alert.

Thanks to the Murano’s IIHS classification of a Top Safety Pick Plus, the crossover will cost less to insure than it otherwise would. That’s certainly a win-win for car buyers in the market for an affordable and safe family vehicle.

DeltaWing Repaired and Ready for Petit LeMans after Road Atlanta Crash

DeltaWing Repaired and Ready for Petit LeMans after Road Atlanta Crash

The Nissan DeltaWing will race as a classified car in the 2013 ALMS, but a hiccup at the Petit Le Mans endurance race at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga, almost nipped those plans in the bud.

Despite scoring a very impressive time - it was only 4/10ths of a second slower than the fastest P2 car in sixth place on the time-sheet - the DeltaWing was struck violently in the left rear wheel by a Porsche GTC class car. The car scraped down the road on its side and then rolled over before suffering a heavy impact with the wall and landing back on its wheels. The impact was measured at 7Gs on the team’s telemetry system, but luckily, driver Gunnar Jeannette was not injured thanks to the car’s carbon-fiber survival-cell.

The DeltaWing suffered serious damages first from the Porsche’s hit, then from the rollover and wall hit. The good news is that, in less than 24 hours, the Nissan DeltaWing team managed to repair the car and it is now ready for Saturday’s Petit Le Mans event - the final round of the 2012 American Le Mans Series..

Video: Godzilla Clips an Eagle at 140 mph on the `Ring

Video: Godzilla Clips an Eagle at 140 mph on the `Ring

The Nürburgring, we’re sure, has seen plenty of animal casualties throughout its life span. Many of deer, squirrels, rabbits, and other fauna have likely tried their luck crossing it, only to be met by the front splitter of many supercars.

This time around we get to see a little bit different of an animal meet a high-speed vehicle, as an eagle of some sort – hopefully not bald – decided to soar into the flight pattern of a Nissan GT-R as it circled the `Ring. The predatory bird smacked the top passenger side of the windshield while the GT-R was going roughly 140 mph and flew right over the top of the car.

The thud alone is telling of exactly how hard the bird hit and the damage to the glass in the pictures shows you that the bird was likely not in great shape after this battle with Godzilla. “Ouch” is an understatement for this one.

Video: Anthony Davidson and Nissan Deltawing involved in Le Mans crashes

The 24 Hours of Le Mans has always been one of the most dangerous races in the motorsport world and on top of that, it also has the illustrious reputation as being the ultimate pinnacle of endurance racing.

Just like every other Le Mans, this year’s race was no different when it came to spectacular crashes with Anthony Davidson being involved in an incredibly-brutal incident just 5 hours into the 24 hour enduro.

After coming down at top speed along one of the track’s many straights, Davidson attempted to overtake a stunning Ferrari 458 Italia racer driven by Piergiuseppe Perrazini on the inside line around a slight right hand bend in the straight.

Unfortunately, Perrazini failed to notice Davidson coming up on his right-hand side and unknowingly side-swiped him, sending Davidson’s No. 8 Toyota TS030 flying into the air Mark Webber style, before both cars smashed into the wall.

Fortunately, both the drivers managed to escape the crash relatively uninjured, but unfortunately that wasn’t the final incident of the race.

After months of development, the sole Nissan DeltaWing competing in the event made an early departure from the race after being hit on the left side by Kazuki Nakajima and his Toyota TS030, sending the DeltaWing and its driver, Satoshi Motoyama into the oncoming wall.

Video: Angry Customer Snaps and Drives his SUV into a Car Dealership

Video: Angry Customer Snaps and Drives his SUV into a Car Dealership

We have all had bad experiences at car dealerships and car repair shops. Heck, being a former service manager, I have had to attempt to repair these bad situations at times. Typically, when customer service turns sour, you simply express your anger, go home, call the corporate office, and eventually get a resolution. Well, apparently this is not the way the customer service flowchart goes in some countries.

In a Nissan and Suzuki dealership in what looks to be Russia, if I am seeing the sign correctly, a customer decides to take part in creating his own resolution for a customer service issue.

According to the story that we read, this customer took his Suzuki SUV, which he bought new, back to the dealership to have a faulty shock replaced. The dealership refused to replace the shock under warranty, which really isn’t that uncommon, and from there the customer bypassed calling customer service, and chose to take his frustrations out on the dealership, by way of ramming his Grand Vitara through the dealership’s window.

That’s not where it stops, this driver then smashes up a few brand new floor model vehicles, using his SUV as a battering ram, then eventually disappears from the screen – likely to do more damage on the other side of the dealership.

I used to have pretty nasty road rage, but mine mostly consisted of laying on my horn and flashing the occasional one-fingered salute. This guy really needs to get his anger issues under control. I hope his car insurance company is prepared to pay out to fix his now-smashed SUV, or their office may receive the same “redecorating.”

Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face, sheesh. Check out the above video to see all of the craziness, pay close attention to the brave guy that goes knocking on this lunatic’s window at the 1:57 mark. What’s he gonna do, ask him for some Grey Poupon?

Video: Nissan GT-R Alpha Omega by AMS loses control at 233 mph

Video: Nissan GT-R Alpha Omega by AMS loses control at 233 mph

The land speed record for the GT-R was 218 mph, until AMS Performance decided to drag old Alpha Omega, the company’s monster GT-R, out to the Texas Mile to try to beat its own record.

The first run the GT-R rolls up with 24.5 pounds of boost and a tarmac-punishing 1,050 horsepower at the wheels. This run came out okay, as the Alpha Omega GT-R broke its record, hitting 221 mph. Throw the shoot, load up the car and take it home, right? Nope, not the AMS guys.

Apparently, 221 mph in a mile wasn’t good enough, so the AMS techs hopped back under the hood and cranked the boost to an insane 29.5 psi. This put the Nissan GT-R at an intense 1,250 wheel horsepower. After a mile the monster GT-R hits 233.1 and its driver Ivan reaches to pull the parachute.

Obviously the GT-R didn’t like Ivan taking the credit, so after catching a dip in the runway, the rear of the GT-R lifts up and slings itself sideways, sending its pilot into a deadly 200+ mph slide. At that point we were thinking that a farewell story to this power GT-R was in order, but somehow Ivan manages to calmly keep this monster in check and keeps it from completely spinning out of control.

We watched this video repeatedly looking for any sign of panic from the driver, but there was absolutely none. His eyes simply stayed focused, as he steered the 1,250 horsepower GT-R out of its slide. Hats off to the driver for keeping his cool and getting this car back under control. Check out the video and see if you could have kept your bowels, let alone the car, in check during the spinout.

Toyota GT 86 set to be a playable car on Gran Turismo 5

Toyota GT 86 set to be a playable car on Gran Turismo 5

One of the most talked about sports cars of the year was finally revealed a month ago, and since then, it’s been popping up everywhere, including in the popular racing franchise, Gran Turismo.

For fans of Gran Turismo 5, the thought of finally getting behind the wheel of a Toyota GT 86 is certainly worth the $3.99 price tag attached to the second round of downloadable content for the game.

Polyphony is set to release a Car Pack 2 program and Update 2.02 through the PSN Network just in time for Christmas. For the former, that means you can finally play a slew of new vehicles in the game, including the 2011 Mini Cooper S, the 2010 Volkswagen Golf VI R, the 2010 Volkswagen Scirocco R, and the 2012 Nissan GT-R Black Edition R35. Other fixes and improvements that are part of the Car Pack 2 program include the ability to change wheels on Standard cars, free coupons that allow you to wash cars, change oil, overhaul your engine, or refresh the car body in GT Auto. The CP2 pack also allows you to see how the oil changes, aerodynamic parts, engine overhauls, and racing modifications will affect performance points and engine power in GT Auto. Meanwhile, in screens where the [Garage] and [Driver List] buttons are displayed in the A/B Spec events, Special Events, and Seasonal Events, pressing the ’square’ button will lead you to the [Garage], and pressing the ’triangle’ button will bring up the drivers list.

Then, there’s the Update 2.02, which is important to get as soon as possible if for only one - and only one - reason. By downloading the update, you finally get your hands on a 2012 Toyota GT 86.

Nissan GT-R involved in fatal crash

Nissan GT-R involved in fatal crash

Usually when we write about crashes involving all of the different kinds of sports cars, we like ending our stories with "Fortunately no one was hurt." However, this latest sports car crash does not offer us that type of luxury. A 31-year-old was driving at high speeds in his dark gray Nissan GT-R somewhere in Germany when, while taking a dangerous curve, lost control and crashed into a bus. In total, 14 people were hurt and the GT-R’s driver was trapped in the mangled metal of a car until firefighters freed him. Unfortunately, the emergency crew arrived at the crash scene too late and could only pronounce his death.

Thirty passengers were riding along on the bus when the crash occurred with 14 of these passengers suffering a slew of injuries from small cuts and abrasions to cervical trauma. All 14 were transported to a hospital nearby.

No charges will be filed for the reckless driving, but we believe the driver suffered a much more severe fate. We can only end this story with a line of advice: "Drive safely and don’t forget that speed kills!"

Nissan GT-R crashes into Vancouver bank

Nissan GT-R crashes into Vancouver bank

Vancover was the scene of yet another Nissan GT-R crash after the owner of the sports car slammed into a VanCity Credit Union Bank. Fortunately, except for the driver who had a few gashes here and there, nobody was hurt or seriously injured from the accident.

According to News 1130, the GT-R barely hit a few civilians, including one who was just in front of the car after it crashed into a row of ATM machines. Another woman was inches away from being run over before jumping out of the way seconds before it would’ve hit her.

The police are currently investigating the situation and are not ruling out the idea that the GT-R may have been going faster than it should have, which probably led to the driver losing control of the car.

The driver was fortunate that nobody was seriously hurt because he would’ve had to face a much stiffer penalty than just paying for the damages. Then again, crashing a GT-R onto a bank is going to be pretty damaging to his bank account anyway.

Nissan GT-R crashed

Nissan GT-R crashed

This is probably the worst Nissan GT-R wreck we’ve seen yet. All that was reported was that this happened head-on at high-speed. Even worse was this car never got to live a full life; there was only 500 miles on the odometer.

This serves as a reminder on the old adage about all-wheel drive cars: they may have better handling, but they stop just the same as all the other cars.

Nissan GT-R takes a pounding, left with shattered front end

We don’t know how it happened, we don’t know when it happened neither do we know how to stop crying.

A new Nissan GT-R has been wrecked in Malaysia, its front end completely smashed with plastics and wires jutting out. It’s a terrible sight for automobile lovers to see such a fantastic car biting the dust.

No visible damage to the A-pillars or the driver’s side of the windshield. A photograph of the inside of the car clearly shows the deployed air-bag, indicating that the man behind the wheel could have got away with it if he would have worn his seat belt.

Just another example citing even the exquisite of things can sometimes have a very unfortunate ending.
