When Nissan->ke62 debuted the Rogue->ke2176 back in 2008, it was a relatively unique SUV that gave buyers a smaller alternative to the Murano. However, once the Juke exploded onto the scene in 2011, the Rogue quickly became the most dated of all the Nissan crossovers. With the Juke->ke3600 stealing its thunder, we knew that Nissan had to be working on a new-generation Rogue or an outright replacement.

Fortunately for Rogue lovers out there, Nissan chose to go with the former, and it revealed a teaser image of the all-new Rogue today. The teaser image doesn't let us in on too many details, but it does lend some credence to Nissan's claim that the new Rogue will "push the envelope of CUV styling."

The teaser image shows off the front, driver-side corner of the upcoming crossover, and the LED-outlined headlight and slanted chrome accent are enough to let us know that this puppy will look nothing like the boring Rogue of today.

Upon a little digging, we came across a concept that Nissan unveiled back in 2012 that has a headlight setup that is eerily similar to the one we see here. That is the 2012 Nissan Hi-Cross Concept that the automaker showed off at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show->ke228.

In terms of powerplants, speculation has run amuck with small-displacement, forced induction engines. However, the likely scenario is that it will borrow the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine from the Altima. This would put it at around 180 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. There is a slim possibility that it will get the turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder from the Juke as an option, but that is unlikely.

We'll find out soon enough, as Nissan will unveil the new Rogue on September 10th.

2012 Nissan Hi-Cross Concept

The Hi-Cross Concept arrived at the 2012 Geneva Auto Show with relatively tame and production-possible styling, which is exactly why everyone figured it would soon become a reality. The only wild components, sans the interior, were the 210inch wheels and the electric powertrain. Sure, the Rogue could soon inherit an electric powerplant, but not this year.

Determining that the Rogue will be based on the Hi-Cross was pretty easy, considering Nissan used the exact same picture, just with the headlights slightly modified, to tease last year's concept CUV -- not too sneaky there, Nissan (see the comparison above). Given the fact that the Hi-Cross' body was one that was a possibility for production, we'll put our last dollar on the Rogue retaining the majority of these styling cues.
