They have now unveiled the RR Turbo Serie Carbonio, a lightweight version of the race car. The Italian automaker has a long history with racing, but it is best known in recent years for the ATS GT road sports car and the ATS RR Turbo Club Sport pure track edition.

Modifications on the ATS RR Turbo Serie Carbonio

The latest generation of ATS supercars is built around a space frame made of chromium-molybdenum pipes. Just like the RR Turbo Club Sport, it is built on a frame with an FIA-compliant protective cage. The ATS RR Turbo and its unique Serie Carbonio version’s primary purpose is racing.

The folks from Borgomanero, near the Swiss border in northwest Italy, employed carbon fiber instead of fiberglass for the body panels and rear wing, six-piston aluminum calipers measuring 13.8-inches, instead of four-piston steel, and carbon-ceramic brake discs in place of cast-iron brake discs.

Both models have push-rod suspension in the front and pull-rod suspension in the rear, with electrically adjustable dampers. They also fitted the car with forged wheel rims. By the way, the power to weight ratio that they have made is similar to Formula 1 cars from not so long ago.

Overall the car looks impressive, with all that carbon and the massive wing at the back. These numerous but subtle aerodynamic changes ensure optimum downforce.

Performance

Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox with paddle shifters under the steering wheel and a mechanical self-locking gearbox.

The RR Turbo's dynamics are now even more impressive. The top speed is around 180 mph and this beast gets to 60 mph in under three seconds.

Racing Series

The ATS Corsa sports can compete in a wide range of competitions, from club racers and national championships to global championships in endurance competitions. They include the likes of the 24 hour Series at Le Mans & SPA, VLN, International Endurance Series, International Hill Climb E2SH, and Clubsport competitions.

Price

The regular ATS RR Turbo Club Sport starts at 136,600 euros ($160,000) while the Serie Carbonio will set you back 164,900 euros ($1,94,900). Prices are exclusive of taxes.
