In 2013, Mercedes-Benz launched the AMG Vision Gran Turismo, a retro-inspired supercar developed for the launch of the Gran Turismo 6 video game. It was the first Vision GT car ever made and started a big thing that saw all major automakers bring their own concepts into the game. In all, no fewer than 21 Vision cars were unveiled for the Gran Turismo 6 until 2016. These came from 16 different carmakers, including BMW, Volkswagen, Aston Martin, Chevrolet, Mazda, Lexus, and SRT. Come 2017, and we've already seen five concepts unleashed for the new Gran Turismo Sport game, the latest of which is the Peugeot L750 R Hybrid.

The second Vision Gran Turismo concept coming from Peugeot, the L750 R HYbrid is actually an evolution of the L500 R HYbrid that saw the light of the Gran Turismo day in 2016. The new concept car has a more aggressive exterior with upgraded aerodynamics, as well as a more powerful hybrid drivetrain. The L750 R HYbrid is available for all 17 locations and many tracks in the Gran Turismo Sport video game and can be customized in any color. Exterior

Essentially a more aggressive version of the L500 R HYbrid, the L750 concept is identical to its virtual predecessor save for the redesigned aerodynamic package and the new livery. The front fascia is just as aggressive, featuring a V-shaped nose and boomerang-shaped headlamps that flank the lion badge. Setting the new car apart from the old one is the redesigned splitter, which is slightly larger, and the wings placed on each side of the bumper.

Onto the sides, there are two major upgrades to talk about. First, the new concept has a roof scoop, which in real life would enhance engine cooling. Second, the game car rides on forged magnesium wheel, which shave a few pounds of the previous concept.

The similarities between the old and the new concept cars continue around back, where both vehicles employ the same V-shaped decklid and diffuser with the center mounted brake lights at the center. This design reminds me of boat-tail style cars from the 1930s, although I have a feeling this wasn't Peugeot's aim.

Anyway, the L750 gets a huge wing for enhanced downforce, a feature you won't see on the L500. The livery is also new, combining various shades of gray and silver with red and blue stripes. Like most race cars recently introduced by Peugeot, the L750 features "Red Bull" and "Total" logos. On the front hood, a checkered pattern rounds off the spectacular livery.

Interior

There are no photos or information about the interior, but this isn't surprising given this concept car was created for a video game. However, Peugeot did launch interior renderings of the previous concept car and we can have a look at that to find out more about the L750.

The layout is as extreme as they get and looks as if inspired by a spaceship. There's only one seat at the center and everything looks to be made of carbon-fiber, including the red painted seat. The steering wheel too is made from lightweight materials and looks more like a controller rather than a conventional wheel. But this is far from surprising given that this concept was designed with racing in mind.

Arguably the most interesting features are the holographic projectors located at the front of the cockpit. According to Peugeot, they display vital information about the car's performance and the track ahead, as well as a detailed map. A HUD from the future if you will.

Given that the French carmaker had nothing to say about the L750's cockpit, it's safe to assume that no changes were made to the L500 design. Which is actually pretty cool since the previous concept was already as futuristic as they get.

It's a bit weird to talk about a drivetrain in a car that only exists in a video game, but Peugeot insists that the L750 features a high-performance hybrid under the shell. This was also the case with the L500, but output has been increased for the new Vision Gran Turismo car. Specifically, while the L500's gasoline engine was rated at 270 (virtual) horsepower, the L750 hits Gran Turismo Sport tracks with 580 horses at its disposal. In addition, it has an electric motor that cranks out 170 horsepower with the help of a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery. The L500 had a similar layout, but with two motors, each rated at 115 horses.

Total output in the L750 is estimated at 750 horsepower, a 250-horsepower increase over the L500. In addition to being more powerful, the L750 is also 385.8 pounds lighter, tipping the scales at 1,818.8 pounds. Now that's quite a impressive power-to-weight ratio, too bad this car doesn't exist in real life...

Peugeot says that the L750 will be able to hit 62 mph from a standing start in 2.4 seconds. In the Gran Turismo Sport video game, obviously. That's a tenth-second quicker than the L500, which is a bit disappointing given the significantly lighter car and the 50-percent power bump.

Other specs listed by the French maker include a seven-speed, dual-clutch gearbox, an engine and transmission assembly mounted on the rear axle, a dual-circuit hydraulic braking system with four ventilated carbon disc brakes, and independent suspension all around.

Drivetrain

While I'm not a big fan of Gran Turismo and virtual vehicles don't really turn me on, it's actually great that automakers go through all the trouble to create these Vision Gran Turismo concepts. Most of them may not exist in real life and their drivetrain specs are usually of the "here's a nice dream we had last night" variety, but the video game industry is now big enough to make these efforts worthwhile. Hopefully some of the technology inside Vision cars will make it into production models at some point.
