Peugeot’s Sport Engineered division got its hands on the 508 sedan and what came out is a special edition packing 355 horsepower and 520 Newton-meters of torque courtesy of a hybrid powertrain. Here’s all you need to know about the Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered.

How come it packs that much grunt?

The answer is electrification. Peugeot Sport Engineered dropped two electric motors inside the 508 - one for each axle - to complement the internal combustion engine. The presence of the two e-motors also means the 508 PSE is all-wheel-drive.

The 1.6-liter, four-cylinder gasoline mill (turbocharged) makes 197 horsepower and 300 Newton-meters (221 pound-feet) of torque, while the two e-motors are rated at 109 horsepower (front) and 111 horsepower (rear).

Is this thing quick, or what?

Oh, it’s quick alright. Pretty fast, too. Zero to 100 kph (62 mph) takes 5.2 seconds and top speed is electronically limited at 250 kph (155 mph).

To support such performances, the 508 PSE had its front track stretched by 24 mm and the rear one by 12 mm. It also rides on 20-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, with stopping power coming from 380-mm front brake discs and fixed four-piston calipers.

What about the interior and exterior?

The 508 PSE is on par with what the more pedestrian 508 has to offer, but adds a fancier twist. Peugeot installed its i-Cockpit setup that includes the compact, low-positioned steering wheel and the full-digital instrument cluster.

Seat upholstery mixes leather, 3D mesh, and Alcantara, while the cabin is dressed in contrasting Tramontane grey and Kryptonite stitching.

On the outside, however, more emphasis was placed on the 508’s aero credentials. The visual side of things was also spiced up a notch. Here’s the full mod list for the exterior:

-* redesigned grille and front bumpers + Kryptonite monogram

-* black exhaust outlets, black gloss central diffuser

-* 20-inch wheels, Kryptonite brake calipers

When can I get one?

According to Peugeot, orders kick off mid-October 2020. The 508 PSE will be assembled at the company’s plant in Mulhouse, France. Most likely, you'll get your new 508 PSE in early 2021.
