2017 Peugeot 208 Active Design

2017 Peugeot 208 Active Design

British customers can save up to £2,200 with this special-edition model

Launched in 2012 as a replacement for the ageing 207, the Peugeot 208 was designed from a clean sheet and bolted onto an upgraded version of the PSA PF1 platform. It also received new and updated four-cylinder engines and debuted a couple of three-cylinder gasoline units dubbed PureTech. Another important feature that debuted with the hatchback is the i-Cockpit, combining the compact steering wheel with high-level instrumentation, and TouchScreen technology. The i-Cockpit is now available in just about any Peugeot out there. In 2013, the 208 spawned a race-spec T16 Pikes Peak version that set a new record at the famous hill-climb event. A facelift was introduced for the 2015 model year.

Sold for nearly four years now, the Peugeot 208 is here to stay for a couple more years until the French introduce a redesigned model. Although it’s not to say that the hatchback is outdated, Peugeot is doing its best to keep the lineup fresh and the customers coming into dealerships. For 2016, the French firm introduced two new special-edition models, one of which is the Active Design. Based on the Active trim, the Active Design comes with extra standard features and brings customers savings of up to £2,240.

The not-so-good news is that the model is only available in the United Kingdom for the time being. Still, let’s have a closer look at the 208 Active Design to find out what makes it special.

2017 Peugeot 208 Allure Premium

2017 Peugeot 208 Allure Premium

It was March of 2012 at the Geneva Motor Show. The interior lighting was as bright as the sun, and all of the new cars were glistening. Okay, so it probably wasn’t all that elegant, but it is an exaggerated summary of the what it was like when Peugeot debuted the 208 for the first time. Produced in the company’s brand new plant in Slovakia, the 208 initially started out as a three-door hatchback. A year later, Peugeot dropped a five-door hatch version that made cramming into the back seat a little bit easier. The 208 isn’t what you would call a hot hatch by any means – it’s nothing more than a morning snack for a hot hatch like the Focus RS, but as a “supermini” or “B-segment” car, it serves its purpose quite well in crowded cities.

As a replacement for the Peugeot 207, and built on PSA’s PF1 platform, this little hatch is offered with no fewer than three gasoline engines and three diesel engines – all of which are four-cylinders that deliver anywhere between 68 horsepower and 198 horsepower in the 208 GTi. Oh wait, there is a little bit of hot hatch in that DNA. Anyway, with a few more years on the calendar before a new model is ushered in, Peugeot has decided to expand the 208 lineup with a pair of special editions models. This one is the Allure Premium edition, and it brings a number of enhancements that Peugeot says will save you money over the standard model equipped with the equivalent options.

With that said, let’s take a quick look at what makes the Allure Premium so special and why I’m taking the time to tell you about it today.

2016 Peugeot 208 XS Special Edition

Peugeot extends its 208 lineup with a special-edition model that slots above the base models and below the GT

The Peugeot 208 was first unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show as a replacement for the Peugeot 207, and by February of 2016, the production hit a total of 300,000 examples. It initially started out as a three-door hatchback, but was later produced as a five-door hatchback as well. In the short time that it has been in production, it has spawned several other variants like the Peugeot 208 T16 Pike Peak Racecar, Peugeot 208 GTi, and GTi Sport, and the Peugeot 208 R, which slots in above the GTi trim level.

Back in 2014, Peugeot introduced the Peugeot 208 GTi 30th anniversary edition that was designed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Peugeot 205 GTi. Now with 2016 well underway, Peugeot is announcing the Peugeot 208 XS Special Edition – a model that is said to enhance personalization and increased desirability. If you’re interested in obtaining one of these special-edition models, you might want to get in touch with your local dealer quickly. Produced is limited to just 2,000 examples and is already available for order.

2015 Peugeot 308 GTi

2015 Peugeot 308 GTi

Peugeot has once again stepped up its hot-hatch game with the release of the new 308 GTi, which brings an ultra-efficient turbocharged 1.6-liter engine available in two levels of tune, an enhanced exterior aesthetic, and an interior chock full of performance cues.

Inspired by Peugeot’s extended GTi pedigree, the beefy five-door sees upgrades in all areas; some subtle, some less so, but all in the name of standing out in a market awash with hot-hatches.

Peugeot Brand CEO Maxime Picat says the car has created a good deal of excitement among performance enthusiasts, especially those familiar with the brand’s history of turning out quick cars with an odd number of doors. The 308 GTi follows the likes of the 205 GTi, 208 GTi, and RCZ R, all of which have contributed to the automaker’s claim of selling 800,000 units of its “sportier models.”

It all sounds great, but with so many fantastic hot-hatches to choose from, how does the 308 GTi stack up?

2015 Peugeot RCZ R Bimota

2015 Peugeot RCZ R Bimota

Peugeot introduced the RCZ back in 2009 as a sports coupe iteration of the 308 compact. Built on PSA’s ubiquitous PF2, front-wheel-drive platform, the RCZ has been well-received, gaining several awards in Europe and praise for its agile handling, powerful gasoline engines and frugal diesel mills. The performance-oriented RCZ R also received rave reviews, being described as a better option to the dull Audi TT. Come 2015, and the RCZ R has grown a bit long in the tooth, especially with a brand-new TTS around the corner. However, Peugeot isn’t willing to give up just yet and introduced a new special-edition model.

Dubbed Bimota Special Edition, the coupe was created in collaboration with the Italian motorcycle manufacturer Bimota, and is distinguished by an exclusive racing-like livery and various interior and drivetrain upgrades. Keep reading for the full run-down on the most powerful RCZ R ever created.

2014 Peugeot 208 GTi 30th Anniversary Edition

2014 Peugeot 208 GTi 30th Anniversary Edition

The Peugeot 208 GTi is a sports hatchback that doesn’t get nearly the same amount of love as it should. The standard 208 GTi may not excite people’s senses that much, but Peugeot is confident that the 208 GTi 30th Anniversary Edition will do just that.

Developed to celebrate the 205 GTi’s 30th anniversary, the special edition 208 GTi channels the sportiness of the standard version of the model and ups the ante in the form of an upgraded style and improved performance. Those two elements combine to create a visually appealing package that gives the Peugeot hatch a sportier and more aggressive appeal that isn’t usually reserved for a car of this stature.

Peugeot is presenting the 208 GTi 30th Anniversary Edition at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed before making another appearance at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Sales of the model are expected to commence this November 2014, giving customers enough time to learn more about Peugeot’s newest special edition model.

2014 Peugeot RCZ "Red Carbon" Limited Edition

2014 Peugeot RCZ "Red Carbon" Limited Edition

Peugeot’s peppy little sports car, the RCZ, is getting a unique ’Red Carbon’ treatment. This special edition will be rather exclusive with only 300 united being constructed, with each one getting a host of features as standard equipment and bespoke features.

Before jumping into what the RCZ Red Carbon has to offer, we have to give props to Peugeot for continuing to tout its sports car. It’s not the sexiest or most powerful in its group, but it does have high amounts of both qualities, earning with it a real following among those chic trendsetters in Europe.

Ok, so the RCZ Red Carbon is, well, pretty special in its own right. It comes decked with plenty of exterior and interior upgrades that should bring out the sportiness of the RCZ even more. Likewise, the inclusion of Peugeot’s ’Vision Pack’ and ’Black Pack’ further highlights the exclusivity of the model, as if any more cosmetic changes could do that on an already impressive looking sports coupe.

The RCZ Red Carbon is available on a variety of powertrains, including Peugeot’s 1.6-liter THP engine that produces 200 horsepower and 202 pound-feet of torque, allowing it to hit 0-62 mph in just 7.6 seconds to go with an impressive top speed of 149 mph.

2013 Peugeot RCZ Arlen Ness

2013 Peugeot RCZ Arlen Ness

Peugeot has unveiled the first details on a one-off RCZ set to be unveiled at the Motor Bike Expo in Verona, Italy. This new special edition has been named after the custom motorcycle builder Arlen Ness and updates the look of the RCZ in a very aggressive manner.

This one-off edition RCZ Arlen Ness features a two-tone exterior paint that combines a bright orange with matte-black accents on the leather-wrapped mirrors, the racing stripe, the hood and that cool rear wing. The model also receives an adjustable sports suspension, Ohlins shock absorbers and high-performance Brembo brakes.

Under the hood, Peugeot placed a 1.6-liter engine equipped with a high-flow air filter and a Termignoni sports exhaust system. As a result, the RCZ Arlen Ness now delivers a total of 200 horsepower — up from the standard 156 horsepower. Official performance numbers haven’t been released just yet, but we presume it will hit a top speed of more than 149 mph.

2012 Peugeot RCZ Brownstone Limited Edition

2012 Peugeot RCZ Brownstone Limited Edition

Despite belonging in the same market segment, the Peugeot RCZ is not in the league of the Mazda MX-5 Miata. There’s no shame in that for the French sports coupe because very few cars can match Mazda’s little speedster in terms of popularity and overall affordability.

Having said that, there’s still a pretty significant market for the RCZ, particularly in Europe. That’s why Peugeot has decided to introduce a limited edition, 150-piece RCZ that will be available in Europe.

One of the most distinctive characteristics of the RCZ Brownstone Limited Edition is its Guaranja Brown exterior paint finish. Match that to a gloss black grille, brake calipers, and a special set of 19" "Magny Cours" alloy wheels and you’ve got an exterior look that adds some spice to the RCZ’s overall design.

As for the interior, Peugeot dressed it up with an exclusive Cohiba Leather and Alcantara on the sport seats, the dash panel and door trim panels. Should you wish for add-ons, the French automaker is offering a WIP Com 3D telematic system; a Sport package that includes shorter shifter, leather sport steering wheel, and Motorsound-Generator; a comfort package that comes with front parking sensors, automatic low beam switch and a rain sensor; and a xenon package that features dynamic cornering lights and a headlamp cleaning system, all of which you can get for an extra €2500, which is around $3,300 based on current exchange rates.

Following last year’s Peugeot RCZ Asphalt, the company has now opened its ordering books for the 2011 RCZ Asphalt LE. What’s the difference? This new model is limited to just 75 right-hand-drive units for the UK as opposed to the 500 units offered last year. Each model will be priced at £29,995 - or around $48,000 at the current exchange rates.

The new Asphalt LE edition will be distinguished by a special matte Telluric - that’s fancy for gray - body and can be ordered only with the top-of-the-range GT trim version. The Asphalt package also includes a black roof, "Asphalt’ badging, and 19" Solstice black alloy wheels complimented by matching black brake calipers. For the interior, the package adds bespoke "Asphalt" branded and stitched Nappa leather trim, an Alcantara / leather steering wheel and gear stick, and bespoke "Asphalt" sill covers and floor mats. The list of standard equipment includes front and rear parking aids, auto lighting (with approach and follow me home modes), Peugeot Connect Media Navigation, and a top-of-the-range JBL sound system.

The RCZ Asphalt LE will be powered by the standard 1.6-liter THP petrol engine producing 200 HP and 188 lb-ft of torque. This power is good for a 0-60 mph sprint time of 7.6 seconds.

UPDATE 08/29/11: Peugeot has announced that in addition to the new HX1 Concept, their booth at the Frankfurt Motor Show will also carry the RCZ Asphalt Limited Edition. The special edition RCZ was introduced back in July, but will only make its public debut in Frankfurt in the coming weeks. 2010 Peugeot 207 Sportium

2010 Peugeot 207 Sportium

Peugeot UK is thinking that if they attach a name that has the word "sport" in it, that it would change the look of their little hatchback. We’re not sure if they succeeded, but we give them an A for effort. Their project is the special edition 207 Sportium and it will be offered with a choice of either a VTi 95 Euro 5 petrol engine or Peugeot’s new HDi 92 Euro 5 diesel engine, plus a number of little treats to sport up the vehicle.

The 207 Sportium will be offered with power steering, reach and rake adjustable steering, six airbags, remote control central locking with deadlocks, and electric front windows – “one touch” for the driver. As far as acronyms go, the 207 will come with a radio/ CD player, ABS, EBFD, and EBA. Exterior sporty features will include front fog lights, chrome effect finish to the front grille, colour-coded body side mouldings (including rear bumper), Sportium interior pack, and dark tinted rear window / rear side glass. Finishing off the exterior look is a set of alloy wheels - 15" on petrol models and 16" on HDi models.

2010 Peugeot RCZ Asphalt

2010 Peugeot RCZ Asphalt

Peugeot is rolling out its second special edition for the 2010MY with the RCZ Asphalt based on their latest RCZ sports car. Following the RCZ Limited Edition, the RCZ Asphalt gets almost double the number of units as the previous model with 500 being available for purchase.

The new RCZ Asphalt will be distinguished by a dark gray/black matte exterior paint finish, new 19" black and silver alloys for the exterior, and a pair of custom made sport seats covered in black leather for the interior. And just in case owners forget the name of their vehicle, there will be plenty of "Asphalt" logos on both the interior and the exterior.

Unfortunately, this special edition does not offer any engine updates. Under the hood the customer will still find the 1.6 liter THP engine that develops a total of 200 HP. Other engine options may be available, but Peugeot is keeping mum on those details.

Peugeot has also yet to announce prices for the new special edition, but if we are using the RCZ Limited Edition as a guide then the Asphalt should be around 35,500 euros.
