This is the most beautiful EV on the market right now. And people say wagons are dead - pfff.

LISTEN 03:43

Basically, a beefed up version of the regular Taycan, this is the all-new Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo - a concept car turned series production EV. This is how Porsche is keeping the wagon flame alive - at least until it makes its first electric SUV.

It’s Not a Model S Fighter, But It Is Beautiful

Ok, so people already know that - at least on paper - the Porsche Taycan isn’t exactly a better EV than the Tesla Model S. But with the reveal of the new Taycan Cross Turismo, the German brand went from spec game to beauty pageant. The specs are basically the same as with the regular Taycan, but the looks department is where the Cross Turismo shines - it’s just stunning. There will be four variants available, all with all-wheel drive, and all with the Taycan’s 800-volt battery architecture. A two-speed transmission is also standard, just like on the all-wheel drive Taycan.

Air Suspension for Mild Off-Roading

Now, even Porsche admits the Cross Turismo isn’t designed to be a rock crawler - thanks, Captain Obvious - but all variants feature air suspension as standard that offers a 20 millimeters higher ride height. Also, there’s a standard Gravel mode that can raise the car an extra 10 millimeters, and an optional Off Road Design Package that adds another 10 millimeters and additional body cladding.

More Interior Space Without Much Added Weight

Inside, the Cross Turismo is slightly bigger than the Taycan, with extra headroom for rear passengers and a bigger trunk. The Frunk is still there, and it’s the same size as in the Taycan - 2.9 cubic feet. The range and charging times have not yet been published, but they’re expected to be more or less the same as with the Taycan, considering the wagon is roughly 77 pounds heavier than the regular version.

Sports Car Fast, No Gas Needed

So how fast is the Taycan Cross Turismo? The Cross Turismo 4 gets from zero to sixty in 4.8 seconds, the 4S in 3.8 seconds, and the Turbo in 3.1 seconds. Go for the Turbo Cross Turismo and you’ll need just 2.7 seconds to accelerate from zero to sixty miles per hour.

How Much Does the Taycan Cross Turismo Cost?

Prices have also been announced, and there are big differences between trim levels, just like on the Taycan. The Taycan 4 Cross Turismo starts at $91,000, the 4S goes from $110,000, the Turbo starts at $153,000, and the Turbo S goes from almost $188,000. That’s double the price of the entry-level Taycan 4. Sheesh.

Looking Ahead At What’s Coming Next

But hey, at least you can order an all-new Porsche e-bike with a carbon frame and Fox shocks in the rear for “just” $10,000. Not cheap, but cheap-er than the car. The fact is that the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo is the only thing that looks like this in the EV segment, at least for now.

But the way I see it - it’s just a temporary solution until the first all-electric SUV from Porsche arrives, and that’s just a matter of time – I’m talking about the Macan electric, of course. When that comes, people will probably buy more of them and thus make enough money to sustain the production of the Taycan. It happened with the Cayenne and 911, so it’s sure to happen with the EVs. But what do you think? Is the new Taycan Cross Turismo the perfect everyday EV? Let me know in the comments below.
