The 2011 24 Hours of Nurburgring->ke999 is still months away, but even now, we're already seeing teams introduce their stallions for the grueling endurance race.

One team that's scheduled to participate in the event will be the FALKEN Motorsport Team, which will be fielding a custom, race-ready Porsche 911 GT3 R.. There's no denying that the competition at the 24 Hours of Nurburging is going to be as tough as it's ever been. FALKEN will need to be on its A-game with their development of the car leading up to the race this June 25-26, 2011.

Fortunately, they picked a pretty good car to go to battle with. The Porsche 911 GT3 R is powered by a 4.0-liter six-cylinder, naturally-aspirated boxer engine that produces 480 horsepower at 7,250 rpm. Whether that is enough to outlast the competition is anyone's guess. But at least you know that the FALKEN Motorsport Team won't go down without a fight.

UPDATE 07/25/2011: If there is anything that can top watching the Porsche 911 GT3 R as it speeds along in the 24H race at the Nurburgring, it's watching the Porsche as it tackles the Nurburgring at night! Exterior and Interior

2010 Porsche 911 GT3 R

No exterior and interior details were revealed although from the looks of things, FALKEN installed a new front lip on the car with repositioned grilles and air intakes. The car is also wider now, thanks in large part to a set of new one-piece, forged, 18” lightweight alloy wheels on the front and back with 290/660R18 tires on the front and 330/710R18 tires on the back. There’s also a huge rear wing added to the car to generate much-needed downforce for race conditions. As for the paint finish, well, the photo pretty much speaks for itself. We don’t know how to best describe it other than it’s a two-tone finish featuring a mint green-ish color on the front that’s stylistically turns into blue on the rear. Oh, and there are also FALKEN stickers all over the car, just in case people forget which team the car races for. Over at the interior, there should be all the standard racing additions, including a racing seat, a safety cage, flame retardant upholstery, racing seatbelts, and an electric fire extinguisher system.

Performance

The FALKEN 911 GT3 R is powered by a 4.0-liter six-cylinder, naturally aspirated boxer engine that produces 480 horsepower at 7,250 rpm with the power being sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential dog-type gearbox. This particular racer also comes equipped with traction control, an electronically controlled double de-clutching function, and a specially tuned racing ABS.

Pricing

A standard Porsche 911 GT R costs $112,200 so we can imagine that FALKEN shelled out something a little more than this, plus spent some more on making it race-ready in time for its assault at the 2011 24 Hours of Nurburgring. Too bad no one, but racing folk will be able to drive around the track in one of these.

Competition

Competition at the 24 Hours of Nurburgring is going to be stiff for the FALKEN Racing Team and its race-ready 911 GT3 R. Among the rivals looking to put the Porsche racer in its place include a BMW M3 GT2, a Ferrari F430 GTC, and an Audi R8->ke1440.
