Patrick Dempsey may be best known for his role in Grey’s Anatomy, but the Hollywood actor is also an accomplished race car->ke148 driver, having competed in prestigious pro-am events, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans,->ke1591 Rolex 24 at Daytona, and Tecate SCORE Baja 1000.->ke2133 He’s also a dedicated Porsche->ke1 enthusiast, which explains why the German automaker was so keen on providing Dempsey’s racing team, Dempsey Racing, with a pair of Porsche 911 GT race cars to use in the current season of the Tudor United Sports Car Series.

The extent of the Dempsey-Porsche bromance also extends to the Brazil stage of the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge on November 9, 2014 where Dempsey will be competing in a fan-designed 911 GT3 Cup.

Fan-designed? Yep. Porsche and Dempsey launched a contest back in October 2014, encouraging fans to design the livery of Dempsey’s 911 GT3 Cup that he will be using for the race. The winner of the contest will get to see Dempsey drive a 911 GT3 Cup at the race sporting his/her design. Oh, and the winner’s also going to Brazil to enjoy the festivities live.

Well, the results are in and the winner of the “Design Dempsey’s 911 GT3 Cup” contest is a Porsche fan named Julia whose design involved a fingerprint livery covering almost the entire body of the 911 GT3 Cup.

It’s a simple design that does give a unique identity to Dempsey’s 911 GT3 Cup. I’ll venture a guess that it’s going to be the only 911 GT3 Cup competing in the race with a giant fingerprint as a livery.

Exterior

The 911 GT3 Cup is a bonafide spitball of power and performance, and is considered as one of the most successful race cars in the world. The first iteration, the 996 GT3 Cup, broke into the racing scene in 1998. Since then, the GT3 Cup has undergone numerous iterations. In all the years that it’s been active, the GT3 Cup has accumulated an impressive list of racing victories, highlighted by six 24 Hours of Nurburgring titles, two Spa 24 Hours titles, and a 24 Hours of Daytona title.

The 2013 911 GT3 Cup was the first race car that was based on the seventh-generation 911 and that carries into Dempsey's model. The model features a distinctive front bumper that’s flanked by massive air intakes for improved engine cooling. The wide fenders also play a part in improving the car’s aerodynamic capabilities. Out back, the 911 GT3 Cup carries a massive rear wing that helps keep the race car planted firmly in the track.

As far as Dempsey's 911 GT3 Cup is concerned, it's clearly defined by the giant fingerprint covering roughly its entire body. Outside of that unique decal and the small sponsorship decals on the front bumper and side sills, the race car, in its pristine white body, is devoid of the ostentatious colors, smoked headlights, and flamboyant decals other 911 GT3 Cup race cars carry.

Interior

if you're looking for all the luxurious creature comforts normally found in a standard 911, the 911 GT3 Cup is the wrong car to look at. You're not getting a spec of luxury inside this cabin because it's got a full race-spec cockpit.

So instead of fancy leather seats and an interactive center console, the 911 GT3 Cup features a full-on roll cage, a flat-bottomed steering wheel, and a digital instrument cluster that shows vital racing information for the driver.

Drivetrain

The Porsche 911 GT3 Cup is powered by a 3.8-liter, flat-six engine that produces 460 horsepower at 7,500 rpm, which is a 10-horsepower improvement over its predecessor. Power is then transferred to the rear wheels courtesy of a six-speed "dog-type" automated transmission.

Conclusion

Winning a competition hosted by Porsche and Patrick Dempsey is a pretty big deal. The fact that Julia can enjoy her triumph and creation up close in Brazil is icing on that cake.

Congratulations to Porsche fan Julia for winning the contest. Hope you enjoy your time in Brazil!
