There’s a rule of thought that a lot of tuners abide. You don’t work on a tuning program for a Porsche 911 unless you know what you’re doing. There are a handful of tuners out there that are regarded as being some of the best Porsche tuners in the business. TechArt is one of them. The German tuner has built and developed programs for a lot of Porsche models. It has an impeccable reputation, earned from years of building some of the best kits you can buy for your beloved Porsches. It just so happens that TechArt has a new program to offer, one for the all-new, 992-generation Porsche 911. In keeping with its stature, TechArt’s new kit is loaded in all departments. From exterior changes to engine upgrades, the German tuner covered all its bases, and the result is a tuning program that owners of the new 911 992 should seriously consider getting. Don’t take it from us; check out the program and see for yourselves.

Exterior

- Five-piece front spoiler with integrated splitter - Side air outlet trims - Two-piece side skirts - Two rear spoiler options - All-new Daytona II wheels

There’s a lot to unpack when it comes to the exterior upgrades provided by TechArt for the Porsche 911 992. Let’s start in the front where a new five-piece front spoiler with an integrated splitter can be installed without removing the 911’s OEM front apron. Just above the front spoiler setup are a pair of two-piece airframes that make the air intakes pop out more than they already do.

The side air outlet trims in front of the wheel arches, and the sharp side skirts dominate the visual upgrades in the side of the new Porsche 911. TechArt’s side skirts are unique because of its multi-piece design. There’s an inner side skirt profile that can be effortlessly integrated into the body of the sports car and there’s an outer side skirt that sits closer to the ground. It’s hard to miss the outer skirt, in part because you’ll immediately notice it with the small shark-like fin sitting in front of the rear wheel arches.

The rear section is staggering in its own way. At the very least, it’s a good showcase of what TechArt is capable of as one of the best Porsche tuners in the market. First, let’s talk about the rear spoilers, the dynamics that come to play when you avail of the setup. Suppose, though, you want something that’s the opposite of subtle, something that screams for attention. If that’s your game, then, by all means, go for the massive fixed rear wing that can also be attached to the standard rear spoiler. It even comes with support arms made of glass-like Makrolon, a transparent and high-tensile polycarbonate that I know very little about but trust TechArt regardless. A separate roof spoiler is also available. Don’t sleep on this specific piece because it’s tasked to specifically guide the airstream generated by the 911 straight to the rear spoilers.

All these upgrades already point to significant departures for the Porsche 911 992. Visually and aerodynamically, the aftermarket equipment TechArt is offering for the exterior of the new 911 is incredible. And for what all of that is worth, we haven’t gotten into one of the most important elements of the entire tuning kit: the wheels.

For this particular program, TechArt didn’t just provide a fancy set of wheels for the Porsche 911 992. Nope. The tuner created a new set of forged wheels specifically for the 911 992. The new wheels are available in either 20-inch or 21-inch configurations. They can also be dressed up one or two colors, though the gold wheels on the glam shots are already screaming for my name.

As a whole, it’s hard not to look at TechArt’s new aftermarket program for the new Porsche 911 992 and find something that can come close to it anywhere else. Then again, this is TechArt we’re talking about.

Interior

- Leather and virgin wool surfaces - Handcrafted steering wheel - Illuminated door sills with TechArt logo - Aluminum pedals

If there is a chink in the armor of TechArt’s tuning prowess, it has to be its approach towards interior upgrades. It’s not that the tuner doesn’t exert effort in creating sophisticated-looking interiors that match all the aesthetic and aerodynamic work it does in the interior, but it is less of a priority relative to what it does in other areas of a car. Take, for example, this new program for the Porsche 911 992.

There are some important elements here. The use of leather and virgin wool as upholstery on the seats and door panels is a nice touch. You can see how luxurious it looks in this specific application. It actually doesn’t feel like you’re inside a sports car when the cabin is dressed up this way. The handcrafted steering wheel is also a nice touch. It’s dressed in a stately black-and-brown two-tone leather setup with what looks to be cream-colored stitching serving as a nice accent color. The side sills receive the carbon fiber treatment as well, complete with fancy illumination and TechArt’s logo prominently displayed on it. Minor details like the pedals were also given the aluminum treatment. That’s a solid upgrade.

The general layout of the 911 992’s interior wasn’t affected by the upgrades so you should still get the same look that Porsche intended when it designed the interior. I will also say that if you’re not digging TechArt’s upgrades in this section of the 911, the tuner is also offering a more engaged level of personalization from its customers. That should give you more freedom to choose the kind of materials you want, the kind of trim and accents you want, and most importantly, the kind of feel and vibe you want from the cabin of your 911 992s.

After all, the interior is where you’ll be spending most of your time when you’re out on the road with your German sports car. Might as well dress it up to suit your taste and preference.

Drivetrain

- TechArt Performance kit - Adds 60 horsepower and 59 pound-feet of torque - New total output: 503 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque

Sitting at the heart of TechArt’s comprehensive tuning program for the Porsche 911 992 Carrera 4S is a performance kit that brings with it a significant spike in power for the Porsche’s 3.0-liter turbocharged flat-six engine. Before you get excited about what lies ahead, be advised that there are no hardware upgrades to the engine. TechArt isn’t dropping a bigger turbocharger or replacing stock Porsche parts in the engine with its own. Instead, the tuner is offering a performance kit that can squeeze out an extra 60 horsepower and 59 pound-feet of torque from the turbocharged flat-six unit. This power boost brings the output generated by the 911 992 Carrera 4S’ engine to 503 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. That’s a solid improvement from the engine’s standard output of 443 horsepower and 370 pound-feet of torque.

TechArt did not disclose any improvements in the performance department, but you can assume that a TechArt-tuned 911 992 Carrera 4S will post a quicker acceleration time than the standard factory model. Since the two-wheel-drive Carrera 4S can sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, and the all-wheel-drive version can do the same in 3.4 seconds, it’s fairly reasonable to imagine that the same cars equipped with TechArt’s tuning program can do the deed in about 3.2 seconds and 3.3 seconds, respectively. And those numbers are without the Sport Chrono Package. Throw that into the mix with the TechArt kit, and you could be looking at a 911 992 Carrera 4S that can hit 60 mph from an idle position in about three seconds. Those numbers, folks, are in the vicinity of what the Porsche 911 992 Turbo and 911 992 Turbo S can do.

Before you get too excited about these numbers, there is one caveat to TechArt’s performance kit for the 911. Weirdly enough, you can only access it if you switch the drive modes to Sport and Sport Plus. In Normal mode, the performance kit doesn’t activate so you’re stuck with the factory configuration of the 911 992 Carrera 4S. It’s an odd quirk, for sure, but at the end of the day, a simple switch to Sport or Sport Plus mode should unlock that performance potential you paid for.

Outside of the performance kit, TechArt is also offering a new sports exhaust system that creates an emphatic audio experience brought about by what is now a more powerful flat-six engine. You can also adjust the sound levels based on the driving mode so that’s one more thing that you can play around with once you get a hold of TechArt’s tuning program for the 911 992 Carrera 4S.

Pricing

In its excitement to showcase its new tuning program for the Porsche 911 992 Carrera 4S, TechArt didn’t reveal how much the program costs. The German tuner rarely discloses the price of its programs to the public, opting instead to go for the “if you need to know, all you need to do is ask” formula. That said, the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S starts at $112,000. If you want to buy TechArt’s program for the 911 992 Carrera 4S, you need to buy the real car first. Once you do, you can take comfort knowing that you won’t have to spend much for the TechArt kit, at least relative to how much you paid for the sports car. And if you need an estimate, somewhere in the region of $20,000 to $30,000 for the program would be a fair guess, depending, at least, on the level of customization you want to include as part of your program.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a tuner that can give your Porsche 911 992 Carrera 4S an aftermarket upgrade that’s worthy of its status as one of the finest sports cars in the market, TechArt is the way to go. Sure, other tuners can offer different things with different results at different prices, but consider the stature of the 911 992 Carrera 4S and the level of respect that comes with that. You’re going to want to go with a tuner that carries as much clout in the Porsche aftermarket scene. TechArt’s new kit speaks to that kind of clout. It’s comprehensive. It’s detailed. And, most importantly, it brings results, the kind that anybody would want from a tuner, let alone from one with the kind of reparation that TechArt. Simply put, you can’t go wrong with a TechArt tuning program for the Porsche 911 992 Carrera 4S. You just can’t. Just look at those wheels. My goodness.
