Better connectivity inside, sharper looks, and power bumps – these are the main tricks of the revamped Panamera

LISTEN 05:14

The second-generation Panamera is getting a well-deserved nip and tuck. Since Porsche isn’t into the shallow facelift game, changes cover every facet of the Panamera spectrum, from more performance to crisper interiors and sleeker looks. Here’s everything you need to know about the 2021 Panamera facelift.

Every Panamera is now fitted as standard with the SportDesign front fascia, which was previously available as an option. Customers will be able to upgrade to a further redesigned SportDesign front end with or without carbon fiber elements. In the back, the diffuser gets more prominent fins and three new wheel designs are on offer – one 20-inch and two 21-inch assortments).

The Panamera GTS gets satin black elements, tinted headlights, and Panamera Design wheels that also follow the satin black trend. Two new colors enter the range, namely Cherry Red Metallic and Truffle Brown Metallic. Otherwise, that’s about it on the visual side.

Novelties inside the cabin include a new multi-function Sport steering wheel with shift paddles for every Panamera. However, the Turbo S gets a new GT Sport steering wrapped in leather – this one is optional on other Panamera variants, while the GTS ups the ante with the same GT steering wheel but wrapped in Race-Tex.

On the comfort front, the 2021 Panamera and 2021 Panamera 4S E-Hybrid offer eight-way adjustable front seats (the driver’s seat gets the memory package), whereas the 2021 Panamera Turbo S receives 14-way adjustable front seats, both with memory settings. On top of the food chain sits the GTS once again, with 18-way adjustable front seats.

Tech-wise, there’s nothing to write home about. Entertainment and multimedia tasks are handled by the same 12.3-inch central touchscreen that provides online navigation, real-time traffic info, and a Wi-Fi hotspot. For the Turbo S, Porsche is offering a 14-speaker Bose sound setup as standard and on demand, customers can tick the box next to a 21-speaker, 1,455-watt Burmester 3D sound system regardless of the Panamera model they decide to buy.

2021 Panamera – Powertrain and drivetrain

This is a department where Porsche delved deeper for the 4-liter V-8, with the carmaker’s engineers tweaking the likes of crankshaft, connecting rods, timing chain drive while adding in new fuel injectors and reducing the compression ratio. As a result, the twin-turbo powerplant produces 620 horsepower and 604 pound-feet of torque and equips the 2021 Panamera Turbo S, which now replaces the previous Turbo model.

0-60 mph for the Panamera Turbo S sedan and Sport Turismo takes 2.9 seconds with launch control, while the longer and heavier Panamera Executive will deliver the sprint in three seconds flat (not that anyone would notice the difference). Every Turbo S has a top speed of 196 mph.

Porsche didn’t leave out the 2021 Panamera GTS, which sees a 20-horsepower power bump over the pre-facelift model, delivering 473 horsepower and 457 pound-feet of twist.

New for the 2021 Panamera range is the 4S E-Hybrid PHEV. It mates an electric motor to a 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 for a system output of 552 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque. With launch control on, the Panamera 4S E-Hybrid does the 0-60 mph run in 3.5 seconds and can carry on to a top speed of 185 mph. Porsche also added a larger battery pack inside its Panamera E-Hybrid models (27-percent larger, that is). In return, battery capacity went from 14.1 kWh to 17.9 kWh.

Tweaks have been performed on the chassis as well, mostly to improve comfort and on-the-road composure. The Turbo S gets the PDCC Sport roll-stabilization function, Porsche Torque Vectoring, rear axle steering, 21-inch Turbo Design wheels, and ceramic composite brakes with 420mm rotors in the front and 410mm rotors in the rear.

Tudor’s first encounter with cars took place when he was only a child. Back then, his father brought home a Trabant 601 Kombi and a few years later, a Wartburg 353. At that time, he was too young to know how they worked and way too young to drive them, but he could see one thing – each of them had a different ethos and their own unique personality. As time went on, he started seeing that in other cars as well, and his love for the automobile was born.  Read full bio
