Lindsay Lohan Supposedly Wrecks a Third Porsche

Lindsay Lohan Supposedly Wrecks a Third Porsche

Okay LiLo, we gave you two chances with driving Porsches. First you smashed one into a semi-truck, claiming its brakes failed, but Porsche decided to a little investigation of its own only to find out that the brakes were in top order. Next you nipped a Ford Mustang with a Panamera, leaving a scratch on the man’s car, which he is claiming he will leave as a souvenir. Hmm, we wonder if he got it autographed too.

Now somehow LiLo managed to get her incompetent driving behind into the driver’s seat of yet another Porsche, which she is not allowed to drive regardless, and decided to play bumper cars with a pedestrian. This time her weapon of choice was a Porsche Cayenne and her victim was a young man standing outside of the Dream Hotel in New York.

Fortunately, she hit the guy at a low speed according to the report and the guy is recovering in a hospital. Lindsay did pull off a big no-no following the accident, as after someone checked out the damage on the car, she simply pulled away, getting herself a misdemeanor leaving-the-scene ticket. From the updated report, the surveillance camera at the hotel shows that the "victim" of the accident really seemed to embellish it, so chances were she may not have even hit him. There is an investigation underway.

Regardless of if she hit him or not, how many Porsches is she going to go through before she finally learns that No. 1 she can’t drive, No. 2 she’s rich enough not to need to drive, and No. 3 she needs to hire a freaking driver!

Fortunately in the latter two accidents neither any people nor any Porsche’s were seriously injured.

Lindsay Lohan Crashes a Porsche... Again

Lindsay Lohan Crashes a Porsche... Again

Okay, there comes a time in a person’s life when they need to put the keys down and take the bus around town. That usually happens sometime around the age of 70 or 80 years old. You know, your vision deteriorates, your hearing is not what it once was, your reaction times are slower, etc., so it’s just time to give it up.

Well, Ms. LiLo (Lindsay Lohan to those non-TMZ readers) is not yet out of her 20s and it’s time to get rid of those keys. Just weeks after famously crashing a rented Porsche 911, while forbidden to drive, she has yet again crashed. To boot, it is yet another Porsche. Okay, before we get all dramatic on you and say she mangled a test mule 918 hybrid, we’ll let you know that it was only a minor fender bender and the Porsche in question is just a Panamera and not a 911.

According to the report, Lohan barely nipped a Ford Mustang, putting a minor scratch on it. The Mustang driver was told that Lohan was being chased by the paparazzi and that’s how she hit him. Fortunately, the Mustang driver seems more proud of the scratch than his car, as he said he would use the scratch as a selling point, by saying "You see that scratch right there? Lindsay Lohan hit my car and didn’t total it!"

Still, she is forbidden to drive by her employer’s insurance company. You know, the employer that is likely paying her in excess of $100K per episode to be in a series about Elizabeth Taylor’s rocky life. In addition, where did this girl learn how to drive? She is in several accidents every year and they are almost always – or at least appear to be – her fault.

On behalf of all drivers on the road, we would like to request that Lindsay Lohan find her way to the closest bicycle store and purchase a nice 10-speed to get her around.

1979 Porsche 928 "Risky Business"

1979 Porsche 928 "Risky Business"

Way back in 1983, we all knew and loved a far less creepy and odd-acting Tom Cruise, who was best known for movies like "Top Gun" and "Risky Business," and less known for being love-drunk crazy on the Oprah Winfrey Show. In the 1983 Warner Brothers’ classic, “Risky Business,” Tom Cruise’s character, Joel Goodsen, drove a gold-colored Porsche 928. Now the Profiles in History auction group is offering up the car that Cruise drove on the set for auction.

Actually, there were three cars driven on set, but this 1979 928 saw far more screen time and seat time with Cruise than the other two drive cars. We know that the 1979 Porsche 928 is one of the least desirable Porsches ever built, falling just short in undesirability to the 924, but c’mon, Tom – freaking – Cruise learned how to drive a stick shift in this car.

So, how has this car held up after Cruise was finished burning up, err, learning to use the clutch? What is a car like this selling for? Is it really worth my money?

For the answers to these questions and more, you’ll have to click past the jump to read our review.

Lindsay Lohan Claims the Porsche's Brakes Failed, Porsche Finds no Faults

Lindsay Lohan Claims the Porsche’s Brakes Failed, Porsche Finds no Faults

So there have been a few new details to emerge about Lindsay Lohan’s rented Porsche turned derby car since we last paid the story a visit, so we figured we should package it all up nice and neat, and let you know what’s up.

It all begins with Lohan driving a Porsche 911, which was rented, to the studio where her newest TV show was being filmed. In the process, she managed to position the front end of this beautiful piece of German engineering firmly under the tail end of a semi-truck. Shortly after that, we found out that the insurance company insuring the TV show she is in strictly prohibits her from driving while the show is being filmed, thanks to her many run ins with the boys in blue while behind the wheel.

TMZ, our leading informant on this topic, then dug up a report that Lohan was claiming that the brakes on this nearly brand new Porsche failed to stop the car when the 18-wheeler [ahem] “cut her off.” So it couldn’t have been her fault, right?

It just so happens that Porsche decided that it needed to find out what was wrong with the brakes on this flagship sports car, so Porsche investigators called up the rental company that owns the car and had it shipped to a testing facility so the investigators can check the brakes. The investigators tested every inch of the braking system trying to find the root cause of his high-profile Porsche smash-up job.

There was just one problem with the tests... The brakes passed all of Porsche’s tests with flying colors! So, now Lohan is caught in a boldface lie and has officially garnered a large portion of our attention to see what kind of boneheaded excuse she can come up with next.

As we said before, we highly doubt that this is the end of this story and we anticipate a lot more information coming out soon. As soon as we get wind of anything else, we’ll let you know.

Lindsay Lohan was Not Permitted to Drive When She Crashed a Rented Porsche

Lindsay Lohan was Not Permitted to Drive When She Crashed a Rented Porsche

We hate to say we told you so… Wait who are we kidding? We love to say we told you that our article about oft-troubled Lindsay Lohan crashing her rented Porsche would not be the last thing we’d hear about the accident. According to TMZ, Lohan was forbidden to drive any car at the time she was in the accident.

You see, Ms. Lohan has a bit of a, um, drinking problem and with that problem tends to come her urge to get behind the wheel of a motorized vehicle. To help prevent that and preserve the filming of her ongoing Lifetime series “Liz & Dick,” the company insuring the film added a stipulation that Lindsay Lohan was forbidden to drive any car, let alone a Porsche 911, while the show was in production.

Oops, we guess she missed that memo. We also assume that the production company missed that memo too, as directly behind Lohan’s borrowed Porsche during the accident was an SUV used by the production crew… Double oops.

Fortunately for the production company, the insurance company did not cancel the plan, but it did require the company to inform Lohan that she is not permitted to drive for any reason whatsoever.

What a life to live. You have multiple millions of dollars in the bank and you have insurance companies and production companies taking your keys away like a 16-year-old that just got caught staying out after curfew.

Okay, we can once again resume ignoring everything involving Lindsay Lohan, unless it involves her and a car.

Lindsay Lohan Slams a Rental Porsche into a Semi-Truck

Lindsay Lohan Slams a Rental Porsche into a Semi-Truck

It’s time for TopSpeed: Celebrity Edition! Per a report from TMZ, oft-troubled actress, Lindsay Lohan, learned that an 18-wheeler always wins against a Porsche 911. While driving down the Pacific Coast Highway in Santa Monica, Lohan managed to plant the front end of her rented – yes, RENTED – Porsche 911 into the backside of an 18-wheeler.

Don’t worry, your favorite teen star gone awry is A-okay, as she went to the hospital for tests and was released shortly afterward. According to reports, she heading to the set of the TV show she is surprisingly starring in, “Liz & Dick,” when she smashed the Porsche into small bits of $100K plastic, metal, and rubber, and she is now on the set and in good health.

According to reports, Lohan is claiming that the accident was not her fault and that the 18-wheeler cut her off. Looking at the accident scene, we really don’t see how an 18-wheeler could possibly cut someone off and not leave enough time for the driver to respond. Unless, of course, she was driving really, really, REALLY fast. But, we’re not here to judge, we are simply stating what we can see from the images. We are certain that this is not the last we will hear about this accident.

We are all glad to hear she is in good shape, so we can all continue on our normal path of ignoring any piece of work that she happens to be in…

Bill Gates' old 1979 Porsche 911 Turbo hitting the auction block

Bill Gates’ old 1979 Porsche 911 Turbo hitting the auction block

We’re all aware of who Bill Gates is as he’s remained one of the richest people in the world for the better part of two decades. But just like any other successful businessmen, Gates started off with relatively humble beginnings studying at Harvard University in the early 1970’s, before founding the company which has made him so wealthy, Microsoft, in 1975.

Just four years after founding the company, Bill gates purchased an awesome Porsche 911 Turbo and registered it in Seattle, Washington. That same Porsche was then sold in the ’90’s, but has recently resurfaced and will be put up for auction with Gates’ signed registration details. The auction will be in Vienna, Austria in the coming days and we expect this particular 911 Turbo to fetch a handy amount.

The current owner selling the car is said to have repainted the 911 to the bright blue seen in the above picture. He then got Porsche Classic to kick-start additional life into the sports car by uprating its standard 3.3-liter flat-six engine which when stock, produced 300HP. That was a mighty impressive feat for a car in that era.

The 911 Turbo is expected to sell for between $55,500 and $71,000 when it’s put under the hammer on the June 6,2012. Even though it’s unclear how the Porsche made its way to Austria from the U.S., it is clear that it has lived a very privileged life and hopefully it goes to a suitable home.

TopSpeed's Best of 2011: Famous Crashes of the Year

TopSpeed’s Best of 2011: Famous Crashes of the Year

Okay, so it may not exactly be appropriate to pick the best crash of the year, but considering many will be ringing in the new year in a drunken stupor, we think it best to remind everyone of the consequences of drinking and driving. Most of the drivers in the crashes we are featuring were not under the influence when these crashes occurred, but if these guys can get into a massive accident when they’re sober, chances are a drunk YOU will suffer consequences that are much worse.

This year actually brought out the worst in many drivers, some of which instigated accidents with multiple supercars, a vehicular dip into the Atlantic Ocean, and high speed rough and tumbles. Unfortunately, not all of these drivers survived these horrific crashes, which only drives home the point that we have to be extremely careful when operating our motor vehicles.

Remember to have a SAFE and fun New Year.

Hit the jump for the list of the most famous crashes of 2011.

Steve Jobs used the Porsche 928 as inspiration for Mac design

Steve Jobs used the Porsche 928 as inspiration for Mac design

October 5, 2011 was a very sad day for the American computer industry: Steve Jobs - the creator of the first commercially successful lines of personal computers, the Apple II series - passed away after losing his battle with a rare pancreatic cancer. As one of the few, true innovators of our time, Jobs took his knowledge and creativity and built up a company that is now worth about $1 trillion.

Steve Jobs did many great things for the technological world, so as homage to a great man, we thought it would be interesting to talk a little about one of his first projects. You see, the first Macintosh computer Jobs designed was actually influenced by his Porsche 928.

Andy Hertzfeld, a member of the original Apple development team, recalls the discussion in March 1981 during a late night at the office. "It’s got to be different, different from everything else." said Jobs to James Ferris, Apple’s director of Creative Services. “For some reason, they were talking about cars,” Hertzfeld recalls.

"We need it to have a classic look, that won’t go out of style, like the Volkswagen Beetle", I heard Steve tell James.

"No, that’s not right.", James replied. "The lines should be voluptuous, like a Ferrari.”

"Not a Ferrari, that’s not right either", Steve responded, apparently excited by the car comparison. "It should be more like a Porsche!" referring to his Porsche 928.

“I thought it was kind of pompous to compare computers with sports cars, even metaphorically. But I was impressed with Steve’s passion for elegance in the industrial design and his powers of discrimination continually amazed me as the design took shape.” Hertzfeld said.

The design for the first Mac was released in February 1982. Jobs had worked tirelessly, attempting to produce the best Porsche-like design for the computer.

The world has lost a true inspiration. Steve Jobs will be missed.

1970 Porsche 911S owned by Steve McQueen

1970 Porsche 911S owned by Steve McQueen

Thirty years after his death, Steve McQueen’s name still reverberates within the auto industry. The man known as the “King of Cool” was not only one of his generation’s biggest movie stars, but also made a name for himself for his love of cars, racing, and a combination of the two.

Speaking of cars, McQueen owned a pretty amazing collection of cars back in the day, one of which is this 1970 Porsche 911 that’s headed for the auction block at RM Auctions in Monterey, California this coming August.

According to RM, the car, all 40 years old of it, still "remains in exceptionally original condition". While some people will be skeptical of buying an old Porsche that undoubtedly has had its fair share of work done to it, those who prefer to see the glass as half-full will point out that this particular 911 still stands as one of the most iconic 911 models in history.

Even if it’s gone through a number of owners after the original, you still can’t deny that this particular model’s first owner is no other than the "King of Cool" himself, Steve McQueen.

UPDATE 08/22/2011: Steve McQueen’s slate gray Porsche 911S ended up selling for a lavish $1,375,000 at RM Auctions this past weekend.

Details on Steve McQueen’s Porsche 911 after the jump.

Hey Seinfeld! No Porsche Carrera GT for you!

Hey Seinfeld! No Porsche Carrera GT for you!

We all remember hysterically laughing at the Seinfeld episode where the Soup Nazi first bellowed his first "No soup for you!" and have laughed our butts off ever since, but sadly, Seinfeld’s self-titled sitcom is now over and Jerry Seinfeld may be feeling the money crunch. This may be evident in the fact that the all-star comedian is selling his black 2004 Porsche Carrera GT.

The celebrity owned sports car only has 3,176 miles on the odometer and comes with in a black/gray color combination. Power comes from the 5.7 liter V10 engine that delivers 612 HP and sprints the car from 0 to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds. Top speed goes up to an impressive 206 mph.

Do we really think Seinfeld is running out of dough? Of course not! The man is just playing it smart and staying behind the scenes as the producer of his latest show, The Marriage Ref, but the sale of his Porsche does beg the question as to what car will be taking its place in the comedian’s garage.

Other celebrities driving around in a Porsche Carrera GT include Dell Computer’s founder Michael Dell, the King of Late Night Jay Leno, Fashion Designer Ralph Lauren, Professional Golfer Tiger Woods, and Formula 1 Racing Driver Christijan Albers. Wonder if any of them will be giving up their rides as well.

Video: Porsche 911 Carrera RS vs. Helicopter; Jamiroquai style

Video: Porsche 911 Carrera RS vs. Helicopter; Jamiroquai style

Jamiroquai is a British jazz funk and acid jazz band formed in 1992 that just so happens to have a car-loving fanatic as a lead singer. Jay Kay is the proud owner of many luxury rides including a Lamborghini Miura SV, an Aston Martin DBS, and a Ferrari Enzo, to name a few. This little hobby is why their latest, and appropriately named "White Knuckle Ride" video taken from the new album, "Rock Dust Light Star" features a Porsche 911 Carrera RS and a Robinson R44 Raven II helicopter.

The chance to see a video of a Carrera RS and a helicopter is enough to give this one a go, but adding a chase scene that takes the machines through the dry scenery of Spain is more than enough to hit play right now.

And if you just so happen to enjoy a good jazz funk song, then this video is also for you, and so is Jamiroquai’s latest album which hits stores on November 1st.
