The way drag races between internal combustion-engined cars and electric vehicles go these days, the initial assumption is that the Taycan will win. But this is as close as it can get. The Taycan is powerful, but also a lot heavier. The GT2 RS is lighter, but not as powerful as its electric sibling. Which car have you got your money on?

After all, it is the next logical step after the Taycan’s success since the 911 will be the last model of Porsche’s lineup to make the transition. We recently learned that Porsche decision-makers were weighing options on what to do with the next-gen 718, and it looks like a decision has been made, as new reports say an electric Porsche Boxster Concept is about to be revealed!
Porsche’s Boxster EV Will Force Audi And BMW To Step Up Their Game
We already know that the Porsche 911 will most likely be the last of the brand’s cars to transition into an electric vehicle, and rightfully so, I might add. However, as of today, there aren’t any real electric sports cars on the market. I suppose you could argue that the new Tesla Roadster is a sports car, but for the sake of argument Tesla kind of stands on its own and who knows when the Roadster will really make production. Then you’ve got cars like the Audi E-Tron GT and its sister the Porsche Taycan, and while they are sporty and quick, it doesn’t exactly fit the sports car segment like a Porsche 718, Audi TT, or even the BMW Z4 and Toyota Supra twins. Oddly enough, there’s little official chatter of any cars in this segment going electric. Well, until now that is.
The Porsche Macan EV Might Not Be A Macan At All
Things escalated quickly between 2019 and 2020 over at Porsche, with the former bring news that the 2021 Porsche Macan will only be offered with an all-electric drivetrain. Of course, 2021 is here, and guess what? The electric Macan doesn’t even exist outside of Porsche’s walls. That’s because in early 2020, we learned that Porsche was thinking about a “double Macan” strategy in which it will update the current-gen Macan to sell alongside the next-gen electric Macan. It’s good news for those that don’t want to make the transition to electric go juice, but it also means the next-gen Macan had to be delayed. Now we’ve learned something new, and it seems that the Macan EV might not be a Macan at all. Wait… what?
The Fate of the Porsche 718 Draws Near As Porsche’s Decision Makers Weigh Options
After news that the fabled Porsche 918 Successor is delayed until at least 2025 because the technology isn’t there yet, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that Porsche is on the fence about pushing the 718 Cayman and Boxster into EV territory too. The good news is that we’ll know in the next few months, but the bad news is it will still be a while before it actually happens if it happens at all.

2021 Porsche Taycan by Techart
Techart has been around since 1987 and quickly established itself as one of the go-to Porsche tuners. They had a particularly glamorous record between 2005 and 2012, giving us multiple visually-enhanced Porsche models, almost every year, throughout that period. Although their last project involved a mildly altered 991-generation 911, they came back full-force for this one. The new Taycan features many new elements, courtesy of the German tuner, and although it’s not over-the-top like something you’d expect from Mansory, it still is a significant upgrade over the already aggressive-looking super EV.
Porsche’s Huge $83 Million Investment In Rimac Could Make For An Interesting Future
Porsche has raised its ownership stake in Rimac, going from owning a minority share of 15.5 percent to 24 percent. The deal cost Porsche €70 million, or around $83.2 million based on current exchange rates. This is the third time the German automaker has invested in its Croatian company. Back in 2018, Porsche secured a 10 percent minority stake in Rimac before that share grew to 15.5 percent in 2019. Other automakers have also bought into Rimac, specifically Hyundai and Kia. The two Korean brands invested €80 million, or around $95.1 million, as part of a technical partnership that would give birth to a pair of high-performance electric vehicles.
Porsche Could Build a Taycan Coupe, Convertible, and Sport Turismo
Porsche’s plans to build up the Taycan family could soon include a two-door, a convertible, and a low-slung version of the Cross Turismo. Company boss Stefan Weckbach revealed to Autocar that discussions are currently ongoing within Porsche to add body styles to the Taycan to complement the Taycan sports saloon and the Taycan Cross Turismo. No timetable has been set on when these models will arrive or whether they’re going to be green-lighted in the first place. Porsche has made clear its plans to have an 80 percent electric lineup by 2030.

Those looking for more practicality from their Taycan can now buy the Taycan Cross Turismo. In what was supposed to be a debut at the Geneva Motor Show (thanks, covid-19!), Porsche has released all we need to know about the wagon-ized version of the Taycan EV.
