Porsche first released its Cayenne mid-size luxury performance SUV in 2002, and although plenty of naysayers derided the Stuttgart-based brand for this seemingly sacrilegious break from tradition, the model continues to do well 15 years later. Now, with the third-generation Cayenne expected to appear in just a few short months at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, Porsche is sprucing up the outgoing model with a new special edition model called the Platinum Edition. Upgrades include a few bits and pieces for the interior, as well as understated exterior styling modifications, while the rest of the Cayenne spec and equipment is left as is.

Outside, you’ll find new, large-diameter wheels, plus revamped glossy black trim. Inside is leather and Alcantara upholstery, top-end infotainment gear, and unique badging.

Porsche is offering its Platinum Edition treatment for the Cayenne S gas-powered model, as well as the Cayenne S Diesel. Under the skin, the mechanical bits are unaltered, which means you still get 420 horsepower from the twin-turbo 3.6-liter six-cylinder in the Cayenne S, and 385 horsepower from the twin-turbo V-8 in the Cayenne S Diesel.

Pricing starts at 87,442 euros (or $94,311 at current exchange rates) for the Cayenne S Platinum Edition, and 90,417 euros (or $97,519 at current exchange rates) for the Cayenne S Diesel Platinum Edition.

What Makes The Porsche Cayenne S Platinum Edition Special

Specifics for the Cayenne S Platinum Edition include 21-inch Sport Edition wheels in the corners. These handsome rollers use a split 10-spoke design and get platinum coloring with a satin finish. The body panels come with a variety of paint options, including Jet Black, Mahogany, Purpurite, Carrara White, and Rhodium Silver, while the trim is glossy black. Complementing this are rear windows that are tinted, while the fenders were repainted in order to match the body color. In the front fascia you’ll find the usual Porsche headlights, which come equipped with bi-xenon lighting elements, as well as the Porsche Dynamic Light System.

Moving inside, you’ll find the seats get eight-way adjustability, plus leather upholstery and healthy side bolsters. Alcantara material from the Cayenne GTS model was applied to the seat centers, while customers can get the front seats with the ever-popular heating function if desired.

On the safety and convenience front, the Cayenne S Platinum Edition gets a parking assist feature for both front and rear parking maneuvers, plus the Power Steering Plus feature. Auto dimming is offered for the rear-view mirror and side-view mirrors.

And lest you forget, the Cayenne S Platinum Edition offers special “Platinum Edition” badging on the kick plates. Topping it off is the Porsche crest on the headrests, and an analogue clock on the dash.

Finally, each Platinum Edition gets the Porsche Communication Management system for infotainment duties, which throws in Online Navigation, Connect Plus, and a Bose Surround Sound System
