Porsche has achieved a new milestone for a road-legal production sports car on the 13-mile Nürburgring-Nordschleife with a 911 GT2 RS courtesy of the Manthey performance upgrade. This new record of 6:43:30 surpassed the previous benchmark of 6:43:62 that was set by the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series.

Porsche Continues Its Ridiculous Record Streak With the Taycan
Porsche has been in the habit of setting records recently, and it’s added another one to its name. Unbroken and unsurpassed since 2013, the Guinness World Record title for the fastest indoor land speed record has sat on the shelf of Tanner Foust, who clocked in a record speed of 86 mph back in 2013. That record has now gone by the wayside, thanks to Porsche and professional racer Leh Keen. Driving a Taycan Turbo S, Keen hit a top speed of 102.6 mph, eviscerating the previous record by more than 16 mph. As if owning the Guinness World Record for longest drift by an electric car — 210 laps — wasn’t enough, the record-breaking Taycan has another one in the bag.
Porsche Invents Another Pointless Record With the Taycan
Anything can be turned into a world record these days, and you don’t have to look far to see where that’s happening. Mercedes-Benz just reclaimed the fastest luxury car and fastest production car at the Nurburgring titles a few days ago. Last month, the SSC Tuatara wrestled the fastest car in the world title from the Koenigsegg Agera RS, albeit in a controversial fashion. There’s a world record for every automaker these days, including Porsche, which set the Guinness World record for longest drift by an electric car with the Taycan, going sideways for 26 straight miles with an average speed of 29 mph. Even with all these records popping up, it’s hard to deny that the achievement was impressive, especially when you consider that driver Dennis Retera had to sustain the drift for almost an hour.

Porsche is shooting for the stars with its latest plan to conquer the Nurburgring. The German automaker is laying down the gauntlet on the vehicle that ends up succeeding the 918 Spyder supercar. The goal isn’t just to beat the 918 Spyder’s 6:57 lap time at the ‘Ring, but to demolish it by nearly 30 seconds. Porsche’s fascination — it might even be an obsession at this point — with the Nurburgring lap record for production cars won’t be dictated by a specific kind of powertrain, but by whichever powertrain allows it to shave almost 30 seconds off of the 918 Spyder’s lap time at the ‘Ring.
Porsche’s GT2 RS MR is the fastest road-legal car around the Nordschleife
It’s been too long since we last discussed the matter of Nurburgring records. This time, it’s big. Porsche claims to have re-taken the outright lap record for a production car on the fabled track located in the Eifel mountains. A GT2 RS prepared for the challenge by Manthey Racing is now the car to beat.
Porsche is crazy about records, as you might’ve noticed. They built a special 919 Hybrid prototype, known as the 919 Evo, just to showcase their engineering prowess, and to smash the then-lap record at the Spa-Francorchamps Grand Prix track and the all-time Nordschleife lap record. Now, they’ve returned to the ’Green Hell’ to claim the fastest time for a production car, which had been in the hands of Lamborghini since earlier this year.

The virgin racetrack in Australia gets smoked by the 911 GT2 RS, and we are quite positive this record will stay for a long time.
The Porsche 919 Just Smashed the 35-Year-Old Nurburgring Lap Record by 51 Seconds
Porsche and race-car driver Timo Bernhard just used the 919 Hybrid to decimate Stefan Bellof’s Nurburgring lap record by 51.58 seconds, at a total time of 5 minutes and 19.55 seconds with an average speed of 145.3 mph. Bellof set his long-standing record way back on May 28, 1983, running a lap of 6:11.13 in a Porsche 956 C. That record has been uncontested since, and this record, sitting at just a hair over five minutes will likely survive for just as long, if not longer.

Porsche Just Set a New Personal Best Around the Nurburgring With the 911 GT3 RS
As is tradition among the fastest of the fast, the latest Porsche 911 GT3 RS (also known as the 991.2 generation) went to the Nurburgring recently to test its mettle (and its metal) against nearly 13 miles of technical and challenging race corners. All told, the mean and green speed machine ripped around the Nordschleife in what appears to be a new personal best for the nameplate, as exhibited in a recent video posted to YouTube by user xthilox. Hit play below to hear well over 500 horses at full chat while the Porsche in question slingshots around the German corners with cartoonish velocity.
The new 911’s upgrades should make it quicker than the outgoing generation, which set a maxed-out time around the Green Hell at 7 minutes, 12 seconds. What’s more, the car featured here is equipped with the lightness-adding Weissach package, which cuts a total of 18 kg (39.7 pounds) from the final curb weight. It also beefs up the suspension with CFRP components for the front and rear anti-roll bars and coupling rods, while the composite material is added to the roof and front lid. Optional forged magnesium wheels are in the corners.
Rumor has it all that good stuff enabled this Stuttgart superstar to post a fastest lap of 6 minutes, 56 seconds. If true, that would make it quicker than the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce and about as quick as the Porsche 918 Spyder hybrid monster, but not quite as quick as the latest Porsche 911 GT2 RS, which ran a 6:47 last September. It’s impressive stuff all the same.
Porsche 919 Hybrid Wallops Its Way To Spa Lap Record, Nurburgring Could Be Next
The Porsche 919 Hybrid is arguably the most dominant LMP1 racer that Porsche has ever had. It won the last three World Endurance Championships, including three straight Le Mans titles. Now that the 919 Hybrid is headed to retirement, Porsche freed it from the technical regulations of the WEC, gave it a new name (919 Evo), bumped up its power, and unleashed it on some of the most famous race tracks in the world. The first stop in this track world tour was Spa Francorchamps, and, believe it or not, the 919 Evo turned in a record-breaking lap time of 1:41.7, breaking the 1:42.553 lap time set last year by Lewis Hamilton and his Mercedes Formula One car.
The 911 GT2 RS Lapped the Nurburgring How Fast?
I knew that the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS was amazing fast, but boy, I certainly didn’t see this coming. The German manufacturer just posted the car’s official lap on the Nurburgring Nordschleife, and it turns out that the 911 GT2 RS almost set a new world record at six minutes and 47 seconds. Porsche actually claims it is a new world record, but this depends on whether we take the NextEV Nio EP9’s lap of 6:45.90 minute into account. Either way, the 911 GT2 RS is the quickest Porsche ever and the fastest gasoline-powered vehicle on the "Green Hell."
Less than two seconds slower than NextEV’s all-electric sports car, the 911 GT2 RS completed the Nordschleife almost a second quicker than the Radical SR8LM, which held the record for a whopping seven years. More impressively, it lapped the German course almost five seconds quicker than the Lamborghini Huracan Performante and almost 10 clicks faster than the Porsche 918 Spyder! This amazing benchmark took even Porsche by surprise, with the company’s vice president of motorsport and GT cars claiming the Germans set a target of "less than seven minutes and five seconds." Beating it by almost 18 seconds is quite the achievement.

Is There A New King Of The ’Ring?
When you’re a car that holds the distinction of being the most powerful Porsche 911 ever built, there is an inherent pressure that comes with trying to live up to the claim. The new 911 GT2 RS knows this all too well because it is the most powerful 911 ever created. It has 690 horsepower on tap. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds. And it has a top speed that can break 200 mph. All these numbers are rightfully impressive, but how do they help justify the GT2 RS’ billing? Bring it to the Nürburgring.
A fresh report from Bridge to Gantry confirmed the 911 GT2 RS did put in a few laps around the track recently. More importantly, though, the same source is reporting that the most powerful 911 actually did more than just go a few laps around the famous race track; it actually posted a sub-seven-minute lap time around the Nordschleife. Granted, there’s no confirmation from Porsche or any other source that the 911 GT2 RS actually did this, but Bridge to Gantry believes that the sports car accomplished this, even going so far as to show two separate photos of the car on the same turn (Turn 13) with less than seven minutes between them, as shown by timestamps on both photos. So did the Porsche 911 GT2 RS really blitz the Nordschleife in scintillating fashion, or is there more to these claims than meets the eye? The evidence does look circumstantial at best, but still, I wouldn’t put it past the 911 GT2 RS to do it. After all, it is the same model that hit 209 mph at the ‘Ring last July.

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS Wants To Break The Seven-Minute Mark Around The Nürburgring
Whether or not you believe in the significance of the Nürburgring lap time record, what’s important is that automakers thing highly enough of it that they’re willing to make chest-puffing claims about their car’s ability to tackle the 12.2-mile race track. Porsche is no different and it has proven as much by being one of the most prominent brands to uphold the sanctity of the Nürburgring production lap time record. It once held that title with the Porsche 918 Spyder’s blistering lap time of 6:57, but now it’s calling its own shot by claiming that the new 911 GT2 RS will be able to join the hypercar as the only two Porsche models in history to post a sub-seven-minute lap time.
Frank-Steffen Walliser, the man behind Porsche’s GT program, dropped some hints of the new sports car’s performance abilities, telling Motoring that the new 911 GT2 RS is “no seven at the Nürburgring,” before adding that fans will have to “wait and see” and give the company “some time” to “check it.” It’s not exactly the most convincing way to call your own shot, but Walliser did say that the company will use the same exact specification of the engine and tires as the production car. No gimmicks here, apparently. There’s no timetable set for when Porsche plans to do the 911 GT2 RS’ Nürburgring run, but rest assured, all eyes will be on Stuttgart’s most powerful production 911 when it does set off for that lap.
