Ram is introducing a limited edition truck called the Ram 1500 Copper Sport at the 2017 Chicago Auto Show. It combines the Crew Cab, 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, large wheels, and a new color Ram appropriately calls Copper Pearl. Only 3,000 of the Copper Sport editions will be built and will begin arriving at dealerships in late February. The Copper Sport joins Ram’s other limited edition model, the 2017 Ram 1500 Ignition Orange.

The Ram 1500 Copper Sport is based on the Crew Cab, short bed Ram 1500 in the Sport trim and includes the venerable 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 with a respectable 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque. The ZF eight-speed automatic transmission comes standard, as does rear-wheel drive. Ram’s part-time 4WD system is optional.

“The Ram 1500 Copper Sport builds on the ever-increasing demand for factory-custom trucks,” said Mike Manley, the Head of Ram Brand, FCA Global. “Our customers continue to enjoy the attention to detail and styling our designers put into each trim level, and this new eye-grabbing model will not disappoint.”

What makes the Ram 1500 Copper Sport special

Starting with the Ram 1500 in the Sport trim, Ram designers added the Copper Pearl color to the Sport’s already monochromatic color scheme. This gives the truck a singular color on the grille, bumpers, body, side mirrors, and door handles. Accenting the copper color are matte black stripes on the hood, black badges on the grille, fender and door, and tailgate.

Chrome, 22-inch wheels give 2WD trucks some pop, while 20-inch wheels come on trucks with 4WD. Other chrome touches include the brightwork in the headlights and fog lights, the horizontal grille inserts, and the chrome exhaust tips that curve into the steel rear bumper.

Inside the truck, the Copper Sport uses black as the base color, with black bolsters on the seats, a black dash, black center console, black carpeting, and a black headliner. Accenting this are body-colored copper trim pieces throughout the cabin. The seats feature a sport mesh weave in the inserts, copper contrast stitching, anodized aluminum colored in copper on the dash, center console, and door panels.

Beyond color, the interior features all the familiar goodies Ram is known for. This includes the 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system, the large TFT display in the driver’s gauge cluster, the rotary shift knob for the transmission, and a user-friendly center console with a dedicated spot for charging cell phones. Push-button starting is also available. Coming standard, though, is a nine-speaker Alpine premium audio system and a subwoofer.

The 2017 Ram 1500 Copper Sport will carry a price of $46,950, which includes the $1,320 destination fee. Customers will find the trucks arriving in dealerships in the latter part of February 2017. And it’s worth mentioning again, only 3,000 examples of the Copper Sport will be produced, making it an honest limited-edition pickup.
