Ram Trucks debuted a 1500 Quad Cab pickup with European-homologated Mopar accessories at the 2016 IAA Commercial Vehicles Exhibition in Hannover, Germany. This marks Ram’s first foray into international territory outside North America.

“We are very excited to introduce the Ram Truck brand to a global commercial vehicle audience at Hannover,” said Bob Hegbloom, Head of Ram Truck Brand. “This is the premier show in the world for the commercial segment and is the perfect entry point for Ram Truck to expand its reach to new markets.”

European-spec parts like the tow hooks and trailer hitch, along with a Liquid Propane-fueled Hemi V-8, allowing this Ram to compete for fleet sales in Europe. This is part of FCA’s overall new focus on trucks and SUV, while scuttling products like the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200.

“This is just the beginning,” continued Hegbloom, who will lead Ram’s North American and international arms. “We’ll continue to unfold the Ram Truck brand plan on a regional basis.”

Hegbloom went on to say Ram is using the IAA show to gather customer and media feedback while spreading the word on the truck brand’s global expansion. Included in Ram’s new market are Europe, the Middle East and all of Africa. Ram will use AK Leasing GmbH and Auto Export Corporation as its official import partners. Vehicle pricing has not been announced, but should become available as Ram begins shipments. No date was specified as to when Ram would begin fulfilling international orders.

As for the truck itself, comes with all the features normally found on a Ram 1500, but with a few unique twists design to help market the truck overseas. Let’s take a look at what Ram has done.

What makes the Ram 1500 Quad Cab Sport special

This Ram 1500 is specced in Double Cab, short bed form, giving it room for five passengers and plenty of cargo. Its Sport trim level brings several upgrades, both inside and out, that make it more attractive to buyers. Starting on the outside, the bumpers, door handles, mirror caps, and grille are all body color, giving the truck a cool monochrome appearance. The hood also features faux scoops that bring a menacing feel to the front.

Ram listed several European-homologated Mopar accessories that this truck showcases, including the black side steps and heavy-duty toolbox in the bed. Other non-accessory parts of the truck are also Euro-spec, including the front tow hooks and frame-mounted trailer hitch.

The Ram utilizes the same 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 found in U.S.-spec trucks, but comes equipped with a Liquid Propane fuel system that allows fleet operators to utilize the widespread LPG fuel network the EMEA region offers. What’s more, LPG delivers better fuel economy and an extended driving range for the Ram. The system also allows the driver to switch to gasoline should LPG not be available.

The engine is mated to the familiar ZF eight-speed automatic transmission controlled by the dash-mounted rotary shift knob. This particular truck is also 4WD with the push-button transfer case gear selector. The optional Anti-Spin rear differential is included, as are the beefier 3.92:1 axle ratio. Ram’s Four-Corner Air Suspension is present here, giving the truck a smooth ride while allowing the driver to change the ride height. It also compensates for heavy cargo in the bed with its auto-leveling feature.

Other features include heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, dual-zone climate controls, Keyless Enter ‘n Go with push-button starting, the seven-inch Multiview Display for the driver, and FCA’s 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system. Configured in U.S.-spec, this truck retails for around $49,900 without the LPG fuel conversion kit.

Of course, Ram will allow its EMEA customers to choose options and trim levels, letting businesses customize their Rams to suit specific needs and budgets.
