I believe we’re starting to get past the days when chrome was synonymous with luxury. For a person who has detested chrome his entire life, this is good news. Ram has introduced a new “Heavy Duty Limited Black Edition” for its top trims on the 2500 and 3500 pickup trucks. This monochromatic package is essentially a dark treatment for all the bling that is present all over the Limited trim’s body. Although it is offered only on the Limited trim, it can be had with any engine and drive layout.

What Changes Does It Offer?

Stuff like the door handles, wing mirrors, and tow hooks receive the treatment. Even the big black grille goes dark. The badges are finished in matte black and look quite classy. The single-rear-wheel models ride on 20-inch wheels whereas the dual-rear-wheel models are equipped with 17-inch wheels, both painted in black. The headlights and taillight bezels look hot with this treatment.

To break the monotony and make the cabin look a little less claustrophobic, Ram has made a few silver-jobs. The 12-inch touchscreen system continues to dominate the center console. Apart from this, the truck also features stuff like three 115-volt plugs, five USB ports, and wireless charging docks.

What Are The Engine Options Available?

Ram will offer the Heavy Duty Limited Black Edition in all the permutations and combinations possible. You can have it in the two-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive layout, single- or dual-rear-wheel setup, or any of three engine options on offer.

The smallest engine offered is the 6.4-liter, V-8 Hemi that produces 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet of twist. Move up the order and you can get yourself the 6.7-liter, Cummins, turbodiesel engine that makes 400 ponies and a mammoth 1,000 pound-feet of torque. This engine mates to a six-speed gearbox.

The same 6.7-liter Cummins mill is available in a lower power output iteration as well. It churns out 370 horses and 850 pound-feet of twist. This model comes with a reworked chassis and body that reduces the truck’s weight by 143 pounds when compared to the preceding model.

The Heavy Duty models even offer a maximum towing capacity of 35,100 pounds and a maximum payload capacity of 7,680 pounds. The truck comes with link-coil suspension as standard, but you can opt for a rear air suspension as well that is helpful if you tend to haul a lot of cargo daily.

How Much Does It Cost?

The Ram Heavy Duty Limited Black Edition starts at $62,745 before destination charges of $1,695. This means Ram is charging $1,095 for the Black Edition, which seems fair given the fact that you’ll have a factory-finish to the truck.

But the trim itself is quite pricey as the base Tradesman trim starts at $33,895 before destination. The Ram Heavy Duty Limited Black Edition will reach the dealerships in the third quarter this year.
